  2. I dont end the rebuild with a 35 year old in stamkos or Kane. That doesnt make a lot of sense. I think you need someone who will be at least close to the age of your core and grow with them. Ending the rebuild isnt signing a 35 year old to a one year deal to try and win now and see them retire in a year or two. The goal.of the rebuild is to build a team that will be competitive for a longer window than they have left.
  3. in my potato head eyes, he would be a good replacement for Kovacevic down the road.
  4. Im not sure that Barron has a NHL career, I think he is on the borderline. Having said that, I noticed an improvement in his Dzone play when he got called up in the late season. He made simple box out plays and was much better at covering his man. Maybe he has enough growth left to have a bottom pairing role.
  5. With 17g and solid play, is Armia tradable or have some value, say to a Utah, this off-season?
  6. Today
  7. I watched the end of the NYI game. I am cheering for St-Patrick. They were in defending mode early in the 3rd and static in their zone (per RDS commentators) ; so at that point I thought that they may screw up. But I was still hoping for a main for them.
  8. I watched quite a few Laval Rocket games this season and I do not think Mailloux is ready. Despite the criticism, Barron does a better job in the NHL than Mailloux. Also, Hutson needs time to develop his potential. Let’s not rush him.
  9. The play by play guy for the leafs game last night after Mathews scored, “well there it is! Goal number 70 for Austin Mathews” Thats not how it works you leaf homer I dislike the team but the media around the leafs is intolerable.
  10. Here is my gut. For 2 years from now. They go with "we know what we have". Keep Hutson, Mailloux, WiFi for their uniqueness. Reinbacher is their flagship pick. And Guhle. They decide that Guhle is basically a veteran in poise and attitude. A more mature Xhejak being the glue type presence a vet may also fill. Therefore not feeling the pressure to add a top end vet. Now for the off ice maturity and guidance. That does not have to be a dman. A Gallagher (if he can screw his head back on straight and commit to the role) can do that. Plus Marty is a huge factor here compared to other coaches. They may also feel having Robidas as an exdman who isnt toooo far removed from his playing days helps. THE MOVES They then move off both Barron and Harris. Barron this off-season. 100%. I think they see Mailloux on the starting roster next season. Then its either pairing Barron (or the assets he his flipped for) with our next first round pick. Top 3 protected. For forward help. That pick will be valued at worst... 7th-12th OA I'd say by gms I'd think. Harris they hold till camp to see how Hutson and the guys do. Move Harris at deadline to make room for Hutson, Struble or Reinbacher. Start of 2024-2025 Matheson-Guhle Harris-Mailloux Wifi-Savard Kova AHL Struble Hutson Reinbacher I think Matheson stays next year (unless Hutson is insane) and is moved the following year in a similar deal paired with assets for a forward. Kovacevic I figure will be someone we can sell for over market value at the deadline because of his low cap hit. Someone will overpay for playoff depth if he is decent next year. It's highly unlikely he'd want to resign given the number of young d here imo. Even if we wanted to keep him as a 7. (Pet kova theory: maybe toronto does in the off-season. They will be rebulding He kinda vibes like a traveling guy and they need cheap deals.) Start of 2025-26 something like... Guhle (24)-Reinbacher (20) Struble (24)-Mailloux (23) Hutson (22)-Wifi (25) 7th - Savardesque Dude More even minute distribution for 2nd 3rd pairing. Pairings obviously not in stone I figure Wifi with Hutson to protect him early as he will be a target. Running Hutson AND Mailloux on the pp because Hutson basically is a rover. They add different elements to a pp. Guhle or Renbacher are likely smart or poised enough for the largely irrelevant pp2 anyways. The big thing is how Hutson translates. Mailloux can play nhl hockey and likely pp a good powerplay. That is the development they wait for before moving one of them. I don't think they move guhle or reinbacer. Wifi... I think they keep him to ensure mailloux doesn't feel he has to do some of the crazier stuff. Stuble seems like a solid guy there too.
  11. They can make the offer to Guentzel with Price still on the roster by using offseason LTIR though; they don't have to move Price to do something like that if they wanted to. Notwithstanding that Utah intends to be true buyers and probably won't take on any more deadweight contracts, why give away a roster defenceman to do what can be done without doing anything? Seems like a waste of an asset to me.
  12. Edmonton looks like they could sweep the series. LA looks shell shocked, like they are barely holding on. Can’t believe the Islanders blew a three goal lead. Not sure they have a chance
  13. The Leafs were the hungrier team and deserved to win. The Hurricanes were relentless after being down 3-0, Patrick can't be too happy.
  14. That is an interesting though that I have also wondered. Stamkos did play with Marty for 6 years. I also wonder about Kane too due to the Wings missing the playoffs where will he go next year? Kane went with the Wings because he likes original 6 teams and he is friends with DeBrincat. The Habs are an original 6 team and Kane is also friends with Dach. Marchessault is another interesting possibility. People ask why would any of them want to come to Montreal? Because them signing with the Habs would basically end the rebuild.
  15. is Newhook better at wing? the sample size of him at wing vs C in NHL is actually pretty small. he played at C for BC as well as the Aves, and has done pretty much the same in his first season in MTL. With that said, I think I would prefer him at wing.
  16. Well, that certainly wasn't what I tuned in to see. Geez, what a collapse that was. After the Laffs game I put on the NYI vs Cannes game. When I put the game on it was 3-2 NYI with about 3:30 mins left. After watching for 1 min the Cannes scored to tie it up and then 10 seconds later they scored again to go up 4-3. They got an empty netter 1 min later. Apparently, the NYI were up 3-0 before the 3rd period started and only had a few shots on net the entire period. The Cannes are now up 2-0 in the series.
  17. Mathews must win a few games but he can't win all 4 by himself. Plus, the longer the series goes the better it is for all Habs fans. i.e. let both of the Habs biggest rivals wear each other out so neither win the Cup.
  18. It may have taken me 18 attempts but I am glad I was able to finally pull it off. It didn’t look promising after the second to last game because the Habs needed only 1 point but Detroit’s miraculous comeback with 3 seconds left, followed by the the Habs’ overtime/shootout loss in the final game sealed the deal. Thank you @alfredoh2009 for the congrats and @Peter Puck for hosting, as always. GHG
  19. Can’t argue, he made some great saves and he isn’t the reason bruins lost. Toronto was the better team unfortunately.
  20. I think we all understood what you wanted to do ... the question isn't why the Habs might want Stamkos or Guentzal ... it is why would they want to join a team that is still in a rebuild, that may or may not challenge for a wildcard next season (especially Stamkos, who turns 35-yrs-old on July 2nd, so better sign him July 1st) ... and ... why would Utah want to lock themselves into the absolute lack of salary cap flexibility that comes with going into LTIR, and spend the extra $15M in real money over the next two seasons ... I expect they will be spending their $43M in cap space to try to make a BIG move up the standings next season.
  21. For Stamkos I'm thinking he could be the offense version of David Savard along with a ton of playoff success (been there, got the t-shirt) for when Montreal makes the playoffs next year. For Utah, most of the Montreal D are an immediate upgrade over anyone on their roster. I'm thinking the Price dead money would be better spent on a serious offer to Guentzal.
  22. 2-2 😱 End of second. Ullmark makes me nervous. He has made some good saves but he is flopping and giving rebounds.
  23. Why would Stamkos be a fit on a rebuilding team? Not a fit , is he?
  24. Engstrom 0pts 13:38 in 1-0 win, after a 1-0 loss in game #1; series 1-1
