  2. Maybe that we better hope 26yr old Jerabek can help on the offense and be a Byron-type steal at $1m/yr.

  3. That was a through bit on Jerabek 'David' wrote for home page. Wonder how his game will translate from big ice surface? Start season on 3rd pairing with Benn/Schlemko and then move up to be Petry's partner on 2nd pairing? A 4th good PP d-man will be nice to have, adding to Weber-Petry-Strait.

  4. Lots of defencemen can handle the PK. Heck, on the PK, Benn is almost as good as Weber. At 5v5 or PP Benn isn't close... but just PK work, he's close. Alzner is also going to be a good PKer, and so is Schlemko. Not as many can do what Shea Weber does on the PP. PP are also much easier, much, much easier minutes on a defenceman's body than PK minutes are... (no blocking shots, no chasing the puck, Weber isn't battling in front of the net on the PP). Basically if you want to cut a defenceman's minutes, PP is never the area that should be cut.

  5. Giroux to me is in a Gomez situation. That contract with 5 years and 8 million on it is looking like an albatross. His points have gone down 4 years in a row. He didn't crack 60 points last year. He did nothing 5v5 and feasted on the PP. I think his value is really diminished by that deal. I wouldn't give up more for him than the Penguins gave up for Kessel... in fact it would be less than what was given for Kessel. Scherbak, Lernout, 1st.

  6. Dog days? Is that a sign that we need to revive everyone's favourite time-killing summer thread?

  7. I hate this move. No way should we have let Markov go. I get that Markov wanted a 2 year deal and Bergevin wanted him to sing for one, but without Markov our defense is not any better than last year. It's not like we didn't have any money to sign Markov! Now we have 8 or 9 million$ under the cap and we can't do nothing with it! Bad decision bergevin! Thank you Andrei for the 16 seasons you gave to the organization! One of the best d-men who ever played for the Habs!

  9. I agree, and am pretty well on the same boat, its been a lateral move type of offseason so far, I do think Drouin/Alzner/Schlemko is an upgrade over Radulov/Emelin/Beaulieu, however the loss of Markov has pissed away any gains in that department now. We are going to have to see what comes of this 8.5 mill in cap before we can determine whether we head into next season better than last.

  10. But you do know everyone would be willing to trade Plekanec for nothing or add a 2nd for anyone to take him and most everyone likely wouldn't touch Giroux because of Prices upcoming contract next year plus he is looking washed up, so it is just a stupid proposal.

  11. Who you rather see signed long term; Drouin or Radulov, given Radulov got the contract Quebec equivalent of $7.1m/yr with Dallas and sounds like new contract was discussed in Jan between Bergy-agent and agent was asking for huge contract then, so seems Bergevin simply offered what he thought he should and wasn't enough. Same with Markov, dlbalr figured about a $4.5m deal should of been reasonable expectation and sounds like that was likely about the offer. So, aside from fact we all would rather see both playing with Habs this year, it couldn't be at any cost...could it? From what is reported, Bergevin is well liked by all (but Jagr?) and nice to hear he was pleasant with your youngin as well .

  13. How about we look at this from a different view and see how it feels? Let's say that Markov had decided to retire at the end of the season, would that feel better? It is basically what he has done, so stop whining and move on. As for what to do with 8mill in cap space, that is a no brainer. What until trade deadline and use it on rentals, Pleks and pick to NYI for Taveres at deadline seems possible. You kind of need that cap space if you plan on doing any deadline purchases.
