  1. Exactly. I included him as a potential part of a Puljujarvi deal to illustrate how little MTL should give up to acquire him. I don’t think that Puljujarvi is worth more to Montreal right now.

  2. Unless you have some inside information or some hidden recording device, it's hard to fault any GM for not signing Free Agents. There is just too much that goes into a decision on where to sign by a FA to blame MB for not landing one.. Money, term, taxes, media, family, weather, etc. etc. etc. I can guarantee there have been several Free Agents over the year that MB has tried to sign and lost out on because the FA has chosen to go somewhere else.. If he was dropping the ball in trades then I would get the criticism, but he is above average in that category.

  3. I don't think Hab29 is alone in his frustration with MB. MB track record in the off season has been really poor with the exception of last year. Last year he did an amazing job and got great value back in the trades. So when he signs a couple of depth players it does raise red flags that this is the MB we all know and last year was a one off. I do think and have posted as such that we need to give MB the benefit of the doubt for now. We have time and cap space so lets see what he does with it. I also posted that if he does nothing else and we should rage. With our prospect pool, cap space and picks, we should be aggressive and add player(s) that we need. I hope he comes through

  4. Look, the truth is what has or doesn't have value is a matter of personal perspective, literally what the bartering system was built on. What you might see as valuable, might be viewed as complete junk to someone else, simple as that, always has been. As far as trying to make a stink about down votes and such, like there is some kind of non existent stigma on down voting, is silly, to put it lightly. The system to rate a post is there, its a fine thing to have in any environment where discussion is prevalent. Trying to call people out about how they rate a post while in the same breath claiming they are not respecting another person's opinion is a contradiction and a half, considering that rating a post is also a form of someone else's opinion about an opinion. If they very much agree or disagree with your post is entirely their right, expressing it is entirely their right, you may find it harsh, the same as they may have found the post harsh. Ultimately there is no difference with someone POSTING their opinion and someone RATING their opinion, if you believe in one you should believe in both, because you are agreeing to allow people to express their thoughts one way or another. Anyways, i'm getting side tracked, back on topic... Really wondering if Bergevin is working on some other kind of big swing right now, because it seems like the easy back up plan at this point, to infuse the top 6 with some talent, would be to really pick Vegas' brain about Gusev. It just seems like they would let him go for adequate asset replenishment, the kind of assets we have in abundance and would be an affordable top 6 contract probably under 5 mill per. The fact we are not going after this obvious situation leads me to wonder if we are not currently working on pulling a bigger fish out of the pond until we either get him on the boat or the line gets cut.

  5. I believe what bergevin said is correct in my view. 10.5 and 4 1sts was too much cost. The difference in up front money between 8.5 and 9.5 was not enough. If the owner was willing to pay 22 up front, another 3 or 4 million and another first wasn't going to matter. The leverage was the owner's liquidity and massive losses in sports investments last year. It didn't happen. It would not have happened with a 9.5 contract, and a top tier contract the price was too high.

  6. Total of 1 offer sheet not matched in the past 22 years, obviously GMs see offer sheets much different and more complex than you make them out to be.

  7. At this point, who cares? The Habs have no fewer assets than before the offer sheet. I think because offer sheets happen so infrequently, people expected it to work. The ONLY way it MAY have worked is if the Habs signed him to McDavid money. McDavid money for buying no years of UFA? Ridiculous. The same people complaining about the current lowball offer would be complaining about overpayment...or if even the offer made worked, would be complaining that the Habs didn't buy any UFA years. There honestly would have been no outcome from this that wouldn't have received criticism. I get people are unhappy about the lack of improvement to the team so far this offseason. However, the offer sheet was a valid attempt, but an unlikely resolution.

  8. I never voiced my opinion on the offer but here it is : I would have been 100% down with giving the next level 2x 1st, 1x2nd an 1x3rd for Aho. However, there is NO WAY that I'd have given the 4x1st picks for him. I'm pretty sure that Aho could worth it in the end, but it's not garanteed either. He's very good, but not a generational talent. What I trully believe is that Bergevin was not offering ANYONE the 4x1st rounder and was even relcutant to give away 2x1st. He probably just decided to give a shot in the dark at Aho given that the owner had to spend A LOT this year and could potentially be in trouble with his liquidity. He offered the minimum package that involved a first pick in compensation and that's it. I don't expect him offersheeting anybody else. EDIT : In other words, I don't believe that Bergevin's plan was to get Aho by overpaying. It looks like it was to throw a line in the water totally knowing that it had a very low % of chance of success.

  9. Why do we specifically need a "UFA forward" -- who would likely be overpaid anyway relative to the value he brings?

  10. There are still teams out there with RFAs and cap crunches. Vegas is over the cap with only 20 players on the roster. How are the Rangers going to fit everyone under their cap... 8 million in space and Trouba, Lemieux, Buchnevich, and DeAngelo need to be signed. Trouba alone is gonna cost over 6 million. Chicago has a million in space but needs 2 more players. Toronto and Tampa likely have to clear space for Marner and Point. Florida has 5.4 million in space but only 17 players. Washington has 4.2 million but needs to sign Djoos and Vrana, and that would put them at 22. Vancouver seems ok to me... 5.5 miiion... 27 on the roster (so add 5 million) and only Boeser and Goldobin to sign... but we have reports in the Vancouver paper yesterday that they want to clear space. San Jose is tight to the cap too. As arbitration dates get closer and these RFAs get contracts there will be more pressure on teams to make trades.

  11. Hudon also isn't a center, so there is that and his name only has one N in it. So when you don't know his name, or his position, we do need to be "realistic on who Hudon is in the NHL." Hudon and Puljujarvi are basically at the same point in the NHL. Neither is worth much. Puljujarvi might be worth slightly more than Hudon (who I don't think gets you a third rounder) but its not much. The fourth overall pick means nothing today, just like when they traded Yakupov for a 3rd round pick, his first overall status meant nothing. The Oilers were reportedly willing to move him for a 2nd round pick, or third line player at the draft. Hudon + 3rd rounder is probably fair value IMO. At least Hudon has one good NHL season under his belt, Puljujarvi despite the high draft status, doesn't even have that.

  12. Count me in the nay! I would do Hudon (who has no place here) for Puljujarvi.

  13. Nay! A thousand times nay! Why would we want to give up an effective roster player and a second round pick for a struggling prospect who has demanded a trade? I wouldn’t mind Bergevin taking a flyer on Puljujarvi for Hudon and a second or third, but not if we are giving up anything substantial

  14. Sure, but Point/agent are going different route and likely allowing Brisbois to work his contract into cap so works OK for both parties, unlike Oho who signed his contract that forced his team to match no options, even if doesnt jive with cap (term-signing bonus-early UFA).
