  1. I hear what you are saying and I believe what you are saying is that the growth curve (gaining height and weight) can vary for different people and happens to some later in life. That can certainly happen. For example I think Shane Wright was pretty much full grown at age 16 and considered a generational talent then. It appears he plateaued early but he still may very well develop into a very good NHL player. Some guys grow 2-3 inches when they are 18 like Florian and it may take some time for their body to adjust so there may be some later development. Anyway I think I have lost my train of thought and not sure what point I was trying to make earlier and maybe I contradicted myself so I will stop now. LOL
  2. It certainly did not. Some kids don't pay attention and that is a great example where the leaf fell a long ways from the tree.
  3. I watched the replay, it looked like a slapshot to me. It was a nice drop pass by Roy and Arber stepped into it perfectly.
  4. While we are at it. Mine would be. 1. Reinbacher 2. Hutson 3. Beck 4. Mailloux 5. Roy 6. Engstrom 7. Mesar 8. Fowler 9. Heineman 10. Bogdan I guess I am not 100% convinced that Hutson will be able to dominate offensively the same way or close to it at the pro level. I sincerely hope I am 100% wrong on that. I am likely higher on Mailloux than most and think he will be a better pro than Roy. I love Beck's game. I saw some clips of Reinbacher's game recently, just think his skating ability, ranginess, work ethic etc make him an almost can't miss prospect.
  5. It's also a very tough call for Dubas to make. I think he has 2 choices: 1) go hard for the cup 2) do a complete rebuild not a reset as MB called it I don't think there is any in between with the aging core they have. Given that they traded for Karlsson I think Dubas has picked option 1 so I don't think he is trading Crosby anytime soon.
  6. I would also agree more with Patrick's list, I would have Mailloux 3 or 4 certainly not 7 behind Mesar.
  7. I think it's still a little too early to be making trades like that. You make that trade when you are a legitimate cup contender, don't think the Habs are there yet even with a Crosby.
  8. I think he has shown enough talent wise, a lot of potential, for me it's a question of whether he can stay healthy.
  9. I think also that if you grow up with an NHL father you see the commitment and dedication that it takes to be successful. It certainly doesn't guarantee anything but it has to help a little.
  10. I agree that age is really important, Dach was playing in the NHL when he was 18 and likely should have been kept in junior for another year so he could get stronger. Age is also important from a maturity point of view, some guys are just not ready mentally (ie. KK) whereas a guy like Slaf had to grow up quick living away from home at an early age. Florian has progressed nicely this year but he is scoring goals this year similar to what Dach did when he was 17/18. Plus Dach's playmaking skills were always superior even at a younger age. Progression is not always linear, we will see if Florian continues to progress at a higher level of play next year or whether he has plateaued this year.
  11. I agree that talent is by far the most important factor but if a couple guys are really really close in talent evaluation than I might look at pedigree as a deciding factor especially if that pedigree is someone like a Jarome Iginla who was such a character guy as the apple usually doesn't fall far from the tree for some traits.
  12. I don't think anyone would disagree that talent is most important, just saying that guys rankings are perhaps a few notches higher than they should be based on pedigree. I am not sure that the Habs drafted Galchenyuk , KK, or Beaulieu because their relatives played some hockey. Bure played 10 years in the NHL and scored 174 goals (35 one year) which is not terrible for a 2nd round pick.
  13. He would partly meet it. Dach is big but I wouldn't describe him as overly physical. In his last year of junior Dach had 25 goals in 62 games, Lindstrom had 27 goals in 32 games before he got hurt. Big difference. I think Dach can be a force but can he stay healthy? I sure hope so.
  14. Yes, Button had him at 10, Helenius at 6 and Eiserman at 2 in January. I think it shows that it's a pretty strong group and rankings could change quickly as some guys develop and others flatline. A lot can happen during the course of the season. Jasome Iginla was drafted 11th and was such a stud so I think his son will likely go higher than expected just based on pedigree like you said. You are absolutely right that the teams at the bottom (same bottom 4 this year) took forwards last year so they could opt for a dman this time around. Habs were the 1st team to take a dman last year. I think this draft is shaping up to be a pretty good one. I remember reading a lot of comments from media last year that said that the 2023 draft was going to be way better than 2024 but you never really know that as you don't really know how some guys will progress. McCagg said the top 10 this year is as good as he has ever seen.
  15. I agree, they are hard to pass over but there are also some outstanding defensemen available and stud defensemen who can log a lot of minutes and anchor a defense are also hard to pass over so there is a chance Lindstrom could fall to 5 or 6. Probably a small chance he falls that far.
  16. Both Demidov and Dickenson are supposed to be terrific. Habs will get a good player almost for sure where they draft. I am just partial to big, tough, mean and most importantly very skilled centers as they are so hard to get. I would love to get a Ryan Getzlaff type to compliment Suzuki.
  17. Florian continues his hot streak with 1G 1A today, 2nd star of game. He has 12 goals in his last 12 games. That's a nice improvement considering he had 13 goals in 68 games last year.
  18. Agree 100%, Lindstrom is the guy I would love to see the Habs get (assuming we don't win the lottery and have a chance at Celebrini) but I think he is almost for sure gone in the top 5.
  19. Commandant, what are your thoughts on Catton? I know you like Helenius better. I was hoping the Habs would draft 5 or maybe 6 and Lindstrom would slide down but Arizona is tanking hard as usual and Ottawa loses back to back to Anaheim and Chicago (WTF??) so they seem determined to finish below the Habs. It seems like the Habs will draft 7-8 (things could change) so that seems to be Catton/Helenius territory but again I am certainly no pro scout and things could change.
  20. Yup, it seems around 7 is where the Habs will be drafting and Catton will be considered. He is slight of build but so is Elias Petterson who he reminds me of somewhat. Very talented. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2024-nhl-draft/player-profiles/Berkly-Catton
  21. Florian now has 11 goals in his last 11 games, not bad.
  22. No question, a healthy Dach can make a huge difference. Newhook looked very good tonight.
  23. It's nice to have a legitimate #1 line as Slafkovsky has really rounded out that line nicely. Just need to work on that #2 line.
  24. A very winnable game. The Caps starting to slide down which is not unexpected. Charlie Lindgren had a terrific start to the season which kept Washington in the playoff hunt but he has reverted to the mean recently. I expect Washington to be sellers at the deadline.
  25. And that shouldn't be too surprising as Buium is ranked top 10 on many lists while Hutson was drafted 62.
