  1. I would definitely move up if possible. The question is who will deal. Maybe Chicago or St. Louis. I would offer Zednick, Ribiero, and Aebi plus the habs #1 for the #1 pick. . Those players aren't in habs future plans. Then they could draft a top player. That's more like a nice dream, in reality i don't see the habs being able to move up With Gainey you never know.
  2. I think you can safely remove Aebi, Ribiero and probably Zednick off you list of salaries, i'd be shocked if they were on the team by the time pre season started. I don't they'll go after Langenbrunner either, the right wing is the habs strong set of forwards.
  3. Wow, didn't see that one coming. I wonder how he will do?
  4. Good Point on Bonk, if he can handle the #2 spot maybe with Kovalev and Kostitsyn i'm all for it. Leaving a pretty good line with Perez Pleks and Murray. Either way i look at it they need a big center whether that is a checking center like Peca or a scoring center like Arnott. Maybe Streit was signed for insurance in case Boiullon asks for too much money. I doubt he will, i agree 1.2 mill is a good price on Bouillon.
  5. It won't be Dandenault, he overall was very steady the second half of the year. He doesn't have great offensive stats but that's not why they got him. Plus he is the only Dman with any speed. In the playoffs he and Boiullon were the best D pair. Streit is a fill in player when a injury arises, nothing more. If they were to trade Souray in part of a bigger deal, ribiero, zednick, aebi. Then i think the habs will go after a D man. Otherwise i only see them going after a top 6 scoring forward, preferribly a big centermen. i would certainly take Peca as a #3 center moving Pleks up.
  6. It's not your money so what's the big deal. I love those 3 signings, the habs over the past several years have been pushed around by other teams. This is a step to even the field. You also forgot to mention that both Begin and Murray will be key penalty killers. You won't see top players killing penalties much anymore with the additional specialty teams play. Plus talk about people who are over paid, let's go with Souray, Zednick, i'm throwing in Ribiero even thouigh i don't think he'll be back. Also, remember the team will be saving money with I'm assuming Simpson, Ribiero, Bulis, Sundstrom won't be back and i think there will be a trade involving zednick and maybe souray. I'm also assuming Aebi will be moved as well. The pay raises for Higgins and komisarek added to the budget. I think there will be 1 maybe 2 real good free agent signings.
  7. Real good move by the habs. The Begin Bonk Downey line was very good at the end of the year. They do there roles. As much as i would like to see Downey drop the gloves more he does what he is asked to do, once he was inserted in the lineup other teams didn't take as many liberties as in the past. As a bonus he does not hurt you in any zone on the ice. (Doesn't help much either). Plus i thought the habs played tougher as a team when he played. I agree gohabsgo, he'll play half the year on the fourth line. The question is which rookie will split the time with him, Lapierre or ferland. I don't know enough about either of them to comment.
  8. Fan Puck, I'll just agree to disagree with you on that one. I don't see any upside to ribiero, i think 2 years ago was it for him. i could be wrong though.
  9. I agree it's a tough place to play from what i here, i live in Colorado so i i know nothing of the pressure, but your making my point, i'm not sure if i care if he has matured over the last few years, his production has went down. I could play center for Kovalev and wind up with 10 points a year. I think the comparison with Perrault doesn't make alot of sense, Perrault reliably put up 20-30 goals and 50-60 points per year on any team he played for. Plus he was always the best face off man in the league. You know what to expect with him every year. Sorry i got this thread off track, i know it's suppose to be about Vinnie, i was making the point it will take more then Ribiero zednick and Aebi to get Vinnie.
  10. You had great points up there except the Ribiero thing. Again, he wasn't a good second line center in Montreal, why would teams trade for him? The habs would be lucky if they could get a third round pick for the guy.
  11. I'm not his biggest fan, but unless i'm mistaken he has his name on the cup which currently only 2 other players on this team has, Dandy and Kovalev. (i don' think anyone else does). He has always been a winner, plays hard, uses the body, plays both ends, how many current habs can do all that.
  12. This would certainly be a nice trade from the habs perspective and I would like it. However as a few other posters mentioned, BG plays it close to the best. I don't think any of the "rumors" have ever panned out since Gainey has taken over. If someone can seriously tell my why the lightning would want Ribiero? He basically has no value. More likely i think other posters have it right with something like Souray, Perez and Aebi. No way would i trade Ryder, everyone complains about goal scoring and he has been the top goal scorer his first 2 years.
  13. Didn't Theo take his team 1 round further then Huet? The big change happened when Julian was let go, players were quickly playing for jobs. Stop blaming Theo for all the canadians problems. He wasn't great but his team was awfull in front of him. I do agree the offense needs to be addressed as well. The likes of Ribiero, Zednick, Bulis, Sundstrom will most likely not return. Having NHL talent playing center and wing with Kovalev will certainly help.
  14. Good point insane avs fan, i have been saying it all year. At best they are an average D, too slow, don't move the puck well enough and don't win one on one battles. Redden at 7 million would mean Souray could be moved saving 2.5 million. Redden is a huge upgrade over Souray. I think the habs need to go after a top line D, if it's a left D trade Souray, a right D trade Rivet.
  15. I agree Cerebus, the habs still need a center, whether they look for an offensive center or a quality 3rd line center like Peca. Pleks is the wild card as to what kind of center to get. Paired with Kovalev and Perez could be a solid #2 line. With the addition of A Peca (example) Kostitsyn can play on the 3rd line with Murray leaving the fourth line Begin Bonk Downey / Lapierre. This is assuming (which i hope) the following players are no longer here through a trade or just not being resigned. Sundstrom, Ribiero, Zednick, Bulis. I know every one on the board wants Bonk gone but i don't see that happening, he is the only center currently with size and defensively was very good the second half of the year. Also i think either Rivet or Souray can be replaced by a top notch D man. Komisarek Markov, Dandy Bouillon Cote are solid 3-6 Dmen. They need to get a D to move the puck and skate. Goatending either Aebi or Huet will be back. definitely 1 will be moved with Danis backing up.
  16. Not exactly on Huet, If he wants too much money then with Aeby can fill the role at 1.9 million. Danis can still back up. Aeby played just as well as Huet the at the end of the season. They can let Huet walk, trade or release Souray Zednick and Ribiero. Look through trades or signings to add 3 players. Arnott at 2 years wouldn't be a bad move.
  17. I only meant Jovonaski as a second teer player due to the injuries and wouldn't get paid as much. If he became a habs, he would obviously be the best talented D on the squad. I totally agree about Souray being overpaid, take away power play points and he has 5 more goals then i did this year. I would move 1 or 2 of Rivet, Souray and Bouillon. I like the Komisarek Markov paring, a solid 3 and 4. Bouillon and Dandy a fairly solid 5 and 6. The upgrade needs to be on the top end talent.
  18. This will be a big topic, i agree on Redden and Chara being too expensive. Maybe Jovonaski, Kubina, Mitchell more of a second teer defensemen or 2. My preference is 2 D. The 2 things that D need to do in the new NHL is skate and pass the puck. The current core of D don't do it. getting D who can skate and move the puck wuickly will help the offensive. Centers: Briere, Arnott or Peca. (I wouldn't over pay for them). I think the young wingers are fine. With Kostitsyn coming in and Plex, Higgins, Perez the Center position will help increase this team's ability to score.
  19. Doesn't Montreal have to have the 6th best record in the league to have the 24th pick? They have averaged in the last 5 or 6 years picking 8-16. Let's see who they picked, higgins, perez, komisarek and kostitsyn.
  20. No way is any player worth that. People who think this team is 1 or 2 players away are wrong. Other then the Bruins, who have they beat over the 6 or 7 years in the playoffs? Have they been more then a 7 or 8 seed in the last several years? The furure is the young players and a couple of vets, Koivu and Kovalev, mostly due to large contracts. Replacing veterans with some youth is the way to go. A hard working vet or 2 wouldn't hurt, like a peca. Signing a few key players coming into there prime is the way to go. Not getting older.
  21. Yea, that's a good idea, trade the most talented player the habs have. That will make them better. Trade Ryder too, then the habs will never score. Kovalev needs NHL talent to play with him, Bulis, although a good checker has no business on a line with kovalev, neither does Ribiero.
  22. Gainey always takes the high road. Look at his actions, he signed numerous players to 1 year deals, all but Ryder will be gone i think. Murray isn't going anywhere. He let Julian coach as long as possible before firing him, Carbo was always his top guy. They will need to sign 2 good D and a quality defensive coach. I think next years team will look alot alot different then the current one. Out with the old in with the new. Gainey is very calm and calculating, he doesn't make huge waves and plays things close to the best. Gainey and Carbo will sit down in a few weeks and discuss the team and it's players to see who stays and who goes. I'm glad he is running the show.
  23. I agree to a point Dalhabs. I would think alot of players off the current roster will not be resigned, i can think of several who can be traded. The Core group of youngsters is a good one. With trades and off season moves they will need a number 1 and 2 Dman, and a center man. Adding 3 players and reducing the roster by 6 or 7 will make this team better. This will also open up space for Kostytsin. I mentioned on a different post about the line up to hopefully look for. This younger roster will make the team, bigger, faster, younger, cheaper, potentially score more and with solid goaltending and additions of 2 top D could make this team a 7 or 8 seed. In 2 years i see this team alot like Buffalo. I would over pay for 2 good D. With Aebi being only 1.9 million, i would not over pay for Huet. Aeby played just as well after the first 2 games. The removal of the dead wood on this team should clear out about 10 million, this can be spent on the D and a center.
  24. The "shake up" will be at the seasons end. Hopefully not tonight. Yes the habs were not Blown out in the series, however they have been dominated for long periods of time during the last 3 games. The following players i beleive will be off the team next year. Sundsrom Ribiero Zednick Souray Bulis Rivet Either Huet or Aebisher This will free up space and money. I feel the habs need to go out and get a #1 and 2 D pairing. (example Jovanoski and Redden) Also a Center man Briere, Arnott or Peca). The rest i beleive will be replaced internally in the organization. I would over pay for the D but not the Centers. This post is not meant to piss people off or start an angry thread, just stating the way i think the shake up will be. New line up: Higgins Koivu Ryder (Decent line) Perez Pleks Kovalev (Should be a good scoring line) Kostitsyn Peca Murray (gritty line, will teach Kostitsyn to play D) Begin Bonk Downey/ Lappiere (Tough 2 way line 2 new D Markov Komisarek Dandy Bouillon /Cote I don't know if Chipchura or Lattendresse will be ready next year. This line up is younger, tougher, grittier and should score more then the current roster.
  25. I don't think Gainey can motivate this bunch. I said it all year, the veterans all play the same, without emotion, without effort on a consistant basis. Until the majority of those players leave it will be tough to put a good effort out. How do you not step up after your "leader" gets taken out, the habs response is lose 3 straight. Rookies will make rookie mistakes, the vets are playing poorly and un-inspired. The most emotion i saw all night was after the first when a Carolina player shot the puck into the net after the buzzer, Rivet got mad. Why didn't he play that hard all night is my question. Gainey and Carbo will get rid of those players, several of them had 1 year deals, the rest hopefully can be traded. Unless Huet gets a shut out things don't look so good.
