  1. Other then the record here are some things i notice with the current team. Gainey really does not overuse the best players. Notice the ice team is alot more appropriate to what the players strengths are. They actually play hard for close to 60 minutes. Although not alot of fights, they are playing alot tougher as a team. Forechecking, finishing checks, etc. Consistant lineups, good use of the rookies. The shot totals have been coming down and for the most part (accept 2 periods at Tampa) the habs shot totals are going up to being acceptable. There also doesn't seem to be alot of panic in the D zone like there use to be. One great coaching move, pairing Markov and Komisarek, great young pair should be together for years to come. Still a few problems i see: 1. The amount of hooking and holding penalties, this will come back to haunt them. The habs also don't draw enough penalties. 2. Dmen lack of speed. With improved play by all the D it doesn't show up as much, however i would expect Gainey to address this issue. 3. To a small degree, size upfront. It has been improving under Gainey which is a good sign.
  2. I'm not sure the value in getting players like Carney, Gelinas etc. Very true they are good players but this team will not win the cup by additions like that. This team should be getiing younger. The future is in a couple of years. They should be focusing on players 24-28 who can replace the vets. Players like Mara, Guathier, Sopel, etc. Beruzzi would be a great addition for what the other poster said before, size and toughness. On a line with Ryder and Koivu.
  3. I like Sundstrom but he has no value, he can't even make the top 12 forwards in Montreal. If he does get moved your right any coach would like to have them but nothing will come back for him. He needs to be added to another trade to sweeten the deal.
  4. Hey habitforming, i'll respectfully disagree with with you, for one sundstrom has NO trade value but Vancouver would need someone to replace Ruuto. If you think Souray has alot of trade value your dreaming. Vancouver is interested because they are desperate. Chicago would never make that trade only if you threw in zednick and ribiero. Ruuto does take the occaisional stupid penalty but he does bring is toughness, grit, size and will stick up for his players. Which no other Canadiens really do. I would rather have his aggressive penalties than the ones this current team takes, hooking and holding all night. It's getting pretty bad. Thank Huet for the win Tuesday.
  5. Here's what i would do. I'm not sure if it's what gainey is thinking but it would make the team younger and better. Trade Souray and Sundstrom to Vancouver for Ruuto. (one there young D) Zednick for Mara to replace Souray. Trade Ribiero for what ever you can get. Off Season Make a real run at Arnott. Lines then become Kostitsyn Koivu Ryder Perez Plekanek Kovalev Higgins Bulis Ruuto Begin Bonk Downey Komi Markov Rivet Mara Dandenault Bouillon / streit Off season Look to sign Arnott and a #1 D man.
  6. I'm going to respectfully disagree on Rivet, i think he hasn't progressed at all. He has been the same player for the last few years. I actually use to like him more when he was tough and scrappy 4 or 5 years ago. I agree with taking penalties all the habs do, i don't think i have mentioned Rivet taking bad penalties. It's actually most of the forwards. I am not sure what about him inspires other people or why he would be a frinchise D man. I just don't think he is that good or couldn't be replaced. I would ship Souray first.
  7. Dandenault not progressing? What does that mean? he has been the same kind of player for years. He is a good 5 or 6 Dman. How about not progressing, Souray and Rivet. The pair of Markov and Komisarek have been playing very well lately. Possibly even the top pair. Dandy and Bouillon have been playing better since there minutes have gone down some. Yes i agree with the earlier poster who said Bouillon is a #7 Dman. Other then playing tough on the boards what does he do that is above average. I would say nothing. I would like to see Cote and Bouillon split that spot the rest of the year. Then the habs will know if Cote is a keeper.
  8. because he sits on the bench. i meant the pressbox
  9. Oh please, Dandy screws up less then Souray and Rivet. What do they do? Let's see: Souray: can't skate, doesn't play tough, getting in a fight every now and again isn't tough. Misses the net 8 out 10 shots. Can't pass. Is very soft in front of the net. He does from time to time play well. Rivet: Slow skater, soft, loses alot of 1 on 1 battles down low. Does look better in the offensive zone lately. I'm not what everyone is talking about by his leadership abilities. What has he ever done to be a great leader?
  10. Recci is like minus 30. The habs are on a youth movement, i don't see them picking up any "veteran" type of player unless it's a D. I do think the habs will try to offer Ribiero and Zednick for Bell, who is younger, and tougher.
  11. Why does everyone want to move dandenault? For one thing he is a good #5 or 6 Dman who can also play forward. He is also the only D who can skate. Markov a bit above average skater the rest are slow. Souray and Rivet are the logical choices to move, they may have a little trade value. Which ever one the habs move they need to replace him with someone who can skate. I know everyone on here hates Mcguire but i think he said it best, when Rivet and Souray are on the ice they get tap danced on all night by any forward with speed.
  12. The only team in need of a goalie this year is edmonton. They are in the playoffs and struggling in net. Does Edmonton have the cap space is the question. There are other cheaper goalies out there if edmonton needs a goalie, Joseph and fernandez to name a few.
  13. That was a joke right, Recchi, leclair, Gonchar. They are totally washed up and way overpayed. That is just what this team needs is more washed up veterans who can't play. How is this an upgrade to the habs current roster? The only player you mentioned worth anything is Witt. In reality i would expect the habs to take a run at Bell, Calder and a D man to help them out. The players possibly leaving will be some combination of zednick, sundstrom, ribiero, souray.
  14. All that with Theo may be true but with the salary cap and the way he is playing he won't be easy to move. Even with the cap moving up next year a team with poor goaltending is going to be hard to find. Realistically speaking where can he go Edmonton is the only tem i can think of who can use him for a playoff run.
  15. The D pairiungs posted above are no improvement. If a team is interested in Souray, trade him. Cote can take his place, atleast he can skate a bit. I agree that zednick, sundstrom, ribiero, souray, streit, possibly even Koivu may be moved. Do they have any real trade value is the question. Who comes back is important as well. I'd love to see them go after Arnott and a Witt type Dman. Also another D who can skate, Tannabi Poti, in that mold. Kostitsyn Arnott Ryder Perezhogen plekanek Kovalev Bulis Bonk Higgins Murray Begin Downey (plus one real tough guy as extra. Komisarek Markov currently playing ok together #3d #4d A tough D and one who can skate and help the second PP Dandenault Cote/ Boiullon
  16. Kovalev, Ryder, Sundstrom, Downey, Zednick are all right wingers. Realistically what right handed center can the habs get? Who then sits, they have ribiero, Koivu, bonk, begin, plekanek are all centers.
  17. I actually think there will be some moves. People like Sundstrum Ribiero, Zednick, Souray or Rivet may have a chance to be traded. Do they have any real value is the question. The habs need to get some D who can skate. As a whole, the D is very slow. I do like the Komisarek Markov Pairing. Bouillon and Dandy are ok. Look for the habs to get a D and a LW.
  18. I would agree with most of that but higgins is tough and a good skater, he plays well along the boards and doesn't lose too many one on one battles. He is not a big hitter or anything but a great third line LW. Pleks is interesting, where to play him? great speed, can score some, good work ethic and defensively pretty sound. They are both rookies and will make some mistakes but i totally agree about the vets and other hi priced players.
  19. Stop already on the Bonk for garon trade. Garon is good because he plays on a good team. Huet is playing well but the team sucks. This team would be just as bad no matter what goalie is in net.
  20. Nope i agree, you can really see how the D used to hook and hold in the past, now as a group they abused all night by just about every player. what makes Souray even worse is he has no idea how to use his size.
  21. I think they are that bad, people can be Theo haters or not but the fact is if it wasn't for Theo the last 2 years the habs never would have made the playoffs.
  22. Yep, i agree, it's time to eject the core players around here. There are some vets that just need to go. Montreal needs some new leadership. Please don't tell me Rivet and Koivu. Being in charge of a bunch of losers, still makes you a loser. Neither one of them show up every night. Souray, Dandenault, Zednick, Sundstrom, Ribiero, Bonk, streit, they can all go.
  23. Ok, so last night strong and solid play Huet and the other 18 players didn't show up. I think it's time for a fire burning sale. This team is awful, dare i say the worst in the league. Only St louis and Chicago are worse. I would add Pittsburgh but even they have beaten the habs twice. Can anyone tell me what was Rivet and Souray doing last night? Have they ever heard of taking the body? This is getting tough to even watch the games. Another night with 20 shots or less. Only twice under gainey have they had 20 shots or more.
  24. Just wait to see if anyone is a late scratch. Otherwise fans will have to wait until fridays news conference. Unless that was a rumor as well.
  25. He did actually make the team bigger and grittier. The problem is the core of the team who have been here for a few years now. Theo is unable to steal games 2 to 1 anymore. He did sign Kovalev, although not really putting up numbers he is the most talented guy the habs have had in years, plus all the young talent a year or 2 away. It takes a few years to fix a decade of problems.
