  1. Obviously they have picks ... but Ducks have their own 1sts and extra 2nds and 3rds the next two drafts ... I expect only the Habs 2024 first would draw serious interest from Anaheim. As I said, I am not certain that Anaheim has any need of defence prospects ... and I don't think that the Habs have any "move up to second overall" quality forward prospects ... their "big guns" are (IMO) Slaf and Dach. for such a trade.
  2. Thing is ... HuGo, Lapointe and Bobrov get to decide who the BPA is ... not Bob McKenzie, Craig Button, etc, or us.
  3. Absent a trade up, if there is no trade to move up and Michkov is available at #5 I would think that Washington would be very keen to get their hands on him ... but I am just not certain what they have to offer in terms of good prospects (The Athletic ranks their prospect pool as 26th in the NHL) ... guess it would have to be picks ... #8, #40 and something.
  4. Trading up for #2 is tough ... Habs prospect depth is on defence but apparently so too is Anaheim's ... perhaps better than Montreal's. I expect the Habs would have to offer the 5th, Slafkovsky and Dach to have a chance ... maybe include an option for the Ducks to swap first round picks with the Habs in 2024 (top 3/5 protected). I expect the reaction will be that is too much ... for as much as Dach impressed last season, it projects as 20 goals and 54 points over 82 games. It all depends on how highly we/HuGo rate Fantilli ... his 0.83 goals per game as a freshman is the all-time NCAA record, regardless of class year ... 0.97 assists per game is tied with for the all-time NCAA best With Logan Cooley (Fr), Luke Hughes (So) and Sean Farrel (Jr) ... he is 6'2", 195 pounds and doesn't turn 19 until October ... I think I would do it.
  5. Apologies ... misread the deal ... still don't want to move Hutson Not certain that Guhle and 31st and 2nd would get the 4th ... let alone Harris and Baron++
  6. IMO too much to move up one spot ... especially Hutson.
  7. Respectfully disagree ... it is true that in return for a HUGE expansion fee they did get far more favourable expansion draft terms ... but they then played many opposing GMs like violins leading up to that expansion draft, drafted well then and in the amateur drafts since, made aggressive trades and smart free agent signings ... IMO they earned it.
  8. Like with children ... you can't give them everything just because they ask ... you have to do what is right for them.
  9. RDS reporting that the Habs have fired Graham Rynbend (head athletic therapist) and Donald Balmforth (Head Physiotherapist) ... not unexpected.
  10. Last December, Forbes valued the Habs at $1.85B ... so Andlauer's share worth at least $185 million.
  11. Norlinder has proven to have minimal/no success in North America ... Engstrom is still all potential.
  12. Agree on all three points ... although Norlinder has almost no value IMO.
  13. Interesting In terms of rankings, I always avoid the Central Scouting lists since they segregate North American players from European/"others" and skaters from goalies.
  14. From what I've heard/read he has an interesting combination of skill and sandpaper.
  15. Depends on how much ownership wants to keep the team in Winnipeg ... if they end up having to go the rebuild route because nobody will re-sign and the "NHL-ready" value isn't there, that could be telling. Like Quebec City, there is tremendous fan support but just not enough private sector money available to buy suites, sponsorships, etc. at prices that would make it profitable.
  16. Another tweak that could/should be considered in the next CBA if the NHL and/or NHLPA wants to promote player movement.
  17. I've long-advocated for a "post-tax" cap system with contracts that guarantee "take-home" pay ... there would be some issues to resolve (e.g., is the basis for conversion the city where he signed the contract or where he is playing when converted) but it would level the playing field.
  18. When the Coyotes move to Salt Lake City, the Jets can move to Pheonix again. 😉
  19. Then let them ASK for Allen ... better leverage.
  20. If he tries to move up it might, more likely, be to try to get Fantilli or Carlsson ... ***NOT*** predicting it happens
  21. Blake Wheller was stripped of the captaincy last season and one has to wonder if he would be open to being traded (he has a 5-team NTC) ... but there is no role for him in Montreal (IMO) so find a team that wants him that isn't on his NTC (Columbus seems to be collecting players these days, and he seems a Babcock-type player) and retain 50% for the remaining season on Wheeler's contract; he should have decent, but not necessarily great, value ... provides significant cap benefit for Winnipeg ... I would also take Allen out of the previously proposed deal.
  22. Per Kevin Weeks (crediting Eliotte Friedman's speculation yesterday), Flames will be naming Ryan Huska their head coach ... formal announcement Monday. So ... Kirk Muller is passed over again ... I wonder if he'll be kept on or find work elsewhere.
  23. They don't want PLD and grab hold of every excuse possible.
