Way to go Higgins...

First period at home always sucks. I am surprised that Ottawa only has that one crappy goal...
By the way, Tucker scored for Toronto.. he is on fire so far this season.
-
Bulis would have been fine on the Habs and on the team if he was willing to play the 3rd line, defensive winger role. He did great in that role and there was no real issue regarding his scoring because it was all a bonus.
However, last year, he potted a few and suddenly he was not satisfied in his role and felt he should be a top line winger, a scoring winger. Delusional in my opinion, but as a people manager I can tell you that very few people are good at self-judgement. In any case, once this happened, he had to go.
I feel sorry for him in a way. It won't be long before the Canucks take him aside and say "we need you to be our 3rd line defensive winger and PK specialist, don't worry about scoring". Will be interesting to see if he gets the message, or rebels on them.

First line to the rescue again!
Way to go Higgins!
-
Here we go again.. PK for the last two minutes...
-
If they don't wake up and remember the game is 3 periods long, this is not going to end well....
-
Sheesh.. once again, they get scored on, then suck it up on the PP... They need to bury this team...
-
Abbey is playing very well. I hope Huet rises to the challenge. Would be nice to see both play awesome, fighting for those starts.
-
Woot, finally... .Kovy gets one.. sort of a flukie play, but nice release!
Maybe that will get the boys going...
-
Man.. Ryder just hit the post.. that guy is on fire tonight.. well, the whole line is. Koivu was awesome on the PK too!
-
Wow.. good job on the PK.. Abbey looking good tonight
-
2nd line having a steller night.. pleks with a dive...
-
God..so much for the PP... grrrr.
-
Bonk, Perez, Johnson, Koivu, Ryder,... all playing great tonight!
PP time...
-
Woot, Samsonov got a shot!
Better individual effort by the 2nd line tonight, but they still don't look like they are clicking. Hopefully they will keep up the effort from that last shift.
-
Woot, Ryder!
-
Did you hear Domi on Souray.. hardest shot in the league.. hit mccabe so hard with a shot it shattered is shin guards last year.
They also said coaches won't put some players out to kill a penalty against him so they don't get hurt blocking shots...
He may have some defensive issues, but when he is hitting the net, he does add a ton to the PP.

Actually, I found it rather obvious that he was having troubles with the eye. Couple of times he whiffed on pass receptions when he was looking up and he also had trouble with the puck in his skates now and again.
True, but he was worse last year. He really struggled last year with the puck at times. I think he has looked better this year. Perhaps because he doesn't take it for granted and is concentrating harder....
-
That data is wrong. Toronto went first (Sundin) , Ryder was last and the game was won when he put it in.
-
Souray needs some time. He is not a fast skater and has some defensive vulnerablities, but he does get better as the season goes on. It has only been two games and it is too early to talk about dumping him. At times last year, he was one of our most consistent defensemen. Sure, Spezza burned him last year in a highlight reel goal, but that could have happened to lots of big, slow defensemen. I bet you could do that to Chara too.

Ryder was number 4 last night and i think he can do well in shootouts once he realizes that his strength is shooting, not deking. Dags was very successful on the shootout because he can pick the corners and has a quick release. Same with Ryder.
Look at the Leaf goals, same thing. They guys come in fast and pick the top corner. Very difficult for the goalie to stop. The only guys who deke are those who can't shoot well. Koivu for example. However, deking is a lower percentage play for most of the guys in the NHL.
Kovy typically scores on the shootout, when he shoots. When he dekes he usually doesn't score.
I think the problem is that they are in the spotlight and guys who make the fancy deke end up on the highlight reels. Too many players like Ryder are trying to be too fancy. Same goes for Kovalev. Just shoot the damn puck.

Anyone watching the Oiler / Flames game? Talk about speed, they are both flying!
-
by the way, ribs got his first point for Dallas tonight. Good for him.
-
Abbey has rebound problems, but he was brillant on the PK tonight especially during the overtime. He got us to the shutout.

Huet should have had that pass across the crease. You can let a puck slide by like that , you are begging for a tap in.
Our 4th line is not great so far this year. They are often hemmed in our zone. Not sure what is wrong with them, but they are just not clicking.
