  1. Bingo. I am getting tired of all these people saying Bob screwed up on the deadline. How so? We have one asset that teams would have been willing to acquire who also happens to be our only chance to make the playoffs. Also, let's not forget, Souray is less than reliable defensively, so are we not overvaluing him and overestimating the returns Bob would have gotten? Are the Islanders going to win the Cup? Doubtful. San Jose? Nashville? Detroit? Is there any guarantee that any of the teams that made a big move is going to win? Is there any guarantee that Smyth is going to re-sign with New York or that any of the rentals is going to stay with their current clubs? One thing is for sure - a lot of teams that gave up draft picks and prospects are going to fail in their ultimate goal. I agree totally, Kenadian, the time for improving this team has not passed just because an arbitrary deadline has. The cap is going to go up so signing Souray AND Markov is not out of the question (by the way - why does everyone assume Souray is leaving?). Apologies for rambling there...I had to vent. All this junk I am hearing about how Bob failed us is really getting to me. :hlogo:
  2. Think this allows Bob to sign Souray in the offseason...? It is possible. Good trade, though...two first rounders this summer and a young D-man that Muller and Jarvis can mould...Bob once again proves his brilliance. :hlogo:
  3. I was at the house of a buddy of mine who revelled in rubbing my face in the Flames victory over the Habs in '89... I made sure to point that out several times... Cripes...has it been that long ago, or does it seem so because we have not had a great deal to cheer about since... :hlogo:
  4. Know what? I think that is an excellent idea...in principle anyway. Who knows how it would work in a game, but cripes, could it be any worse than what's been going lately? :hlogo:
  5. I've come to expect little else from the CBC...sometimes, even with the Habs on English TV I'll switch over to RDS. As for Millen, happen to catch the comment "this time the captain has the edge"...when talking about faceoffs and saying Sundin has the edge...while he was facing off against Koivu? Granted he did make the distinction between captains, but still.........not since Dick Irvin retired have the Habs been fairly represented on HNIC. (Apologies if this has been discussed earlier in the thread...I am a little late arriving) :hlogo:
  6. File this one under the "how to play 7 minutes and get a point" file. If I were Leafer, I'd be pissed...much like I was with the Habs performance for the first 50 or so minutes of the game. Good to see Samsonov get on the board, though, and then come through in the shoot-out. If that second line - whatever incarnation of it we see - can click like Saku's line, then we are in for some good chats during games. :hlogo:
  7. Last night the Habs went toe-to-toe with what is definitely the class of the East and appeared to have no problem skating with the Swords. As I watched I could not help but mumble continuously, excitedly and perhaps unintelligibly to anyone listening that this Habs' team is FREAKIN' FAST. Minus the third period let-down, they nearly beat arguably the best defence, offence and goalie in the East. I mean, who before the game would not have said "yes, I'll take a point versus the Sabres."? Tonight, I am apprehensive yet excited. Apprehensive because it is the Leafs and losing to the laffs is worse than a kick in the pants accompanied by an eye-gouge. I am most excited, however, because for the first time in a while (well those two beat downs late last season were nice too) I feel like the Canadiens have the superior team and will run roughshod over the Leafs inadequate defence. I mean, come on, when McCabe is supposedly your stud on D...? If I were Maurice I'd only let that waste out on the ice during a Power PLay. I will not make a prediction but I feel good about tonight's match-up. To make a long post short: GO HABS GO!!! :hlogo: :hlogo: :hlogo: :hlogo: :hlogo: :hlogo:
  8. Very interesting... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...habs/index.html I'll let you guys comment before posting my own. k. :hlogo:
  9. From Long Cove, Newfoundland originally, now living in Calgary, Alberta where we've just hit 1,000,000 humans - many of whom are my "countrymen". On the first night of the playoffs back in '86 I decided, due to the fact my father was a Bruins' fan, to become a Habs' fan. I recall this skinny dude named "Wha", "Wa" - something like that - stopping everthing...well, nearly everything...the Broons fired his way on route to a 3-1 victory. Then, a few weeks later, #23...along the way I learned that "Roy" :king: is not pronounced the same in French as it is in English Like a gambler winning the jackpot on his first pull of slot machine's arm, I've been hooked ever since. There have been times when it's been agonizing and heartbreaking (i.e. '89) but remembering '93 makes it all worthwhile...that and the fact that my none of my Leafs' fan buddies ever saw their team hoist the cup
  10. Wasn't something similar to this done when the Sens signed and traded Hossa? :hlogo:
  11. You spend more time reading this forum than doing actual work...wait, is that my boss coming....crap!! :hlogo:
  12. What about Bonk? He is the player who has impressed me most. :hlogo:
  13. So, we heard lots yesterday about how this was to be a character game for the Habs. The question is, did they succeed in proving their character? My thoughts are that they did and them some... They lost Souray and played with five D the rest of the night - Markov, Komi, Boullion, Dandy and Rivet played like warriors. Bonk, Sunny and Murray were dominant at times and we got scoring from all four lines. The players, to me, seemed unrattled when the Canes were flying and were a calm bunch throughout. Character game? Damn straight. These guys showed it last night. :hlogo:
