I heard or read somewhere, and I can't remember where, that Carolina may entertain the idea of buying out KK. It would be a crazy buyout though, 6 more years @ $4.8m on his current deal. It would save Carolina $4m per season for the contract duration and cost about $850k for 6 more years after that, according to capfriendly
Right. The buyout would be cheap because he's not yet 25. And maybe another team would give him a shot at a much lower salary. Or maybe he'd take his money, move back to Finland and be a top player in Liiga.

I think Pacioretty and Plex were still top 6 players and that third line was decent but the defence was poor overall.
MaxPac and Plex were indeed good.
But Cammalleri's, Gomez's and Gionta's salaries added up to $18.4M, 28.6% of the cap. That's equivalent to $23.9M with today's cap. Ouch!

I think the lines must be from 2011-12. At that point Cammalleri was already down to 9+12 in 38 games (Gionta 8+17 in 31 and Gomez 2+9 in 31!). Eller still looked like he had potential though ...

Hey just remember what our lineup used to be. Price was supposed to lead THEESE GUYS??? to a cup?
Apart from Markov-Subban and Price-Budaj that made pretty grim reading! 😢

I'm quite OK with other people being excited about it now, and I'll get excited about it myself come draft day. But, for now, I'm not going to invest a ton of time learning about prospects that may never pull on the CH sweater. That's just me. 🙂
And I'm still keenly following all our prospects, and especially those that might be joining the team for the final games of the season. That's excitement enough for me!

Why not, dosent cost anything?
Well, there is that. 😂

Wheeler has 11 prospects in his "tier 2", ranked from 2 to 12, seems like there are many options at a fairly similar level once you get past Celebrini.
I'm not going to get excited about any prospects (unless the Habs win the lottery) until they actually make the picks since we really don't know what Hughes will do.

PTO does not prevent a player from signing an NHL contract with someone else, so he really would not lose anything by doing a PTO.

He wa definitely no victim in Mtl and anyone trying to paint it that way either has an agenda or doesn’t know squat.
I don't think anyone claimed he was a victim, although he was certainly frequently scapegoated by fans. But his circumstances are different now, and he is showing himself as a credible top-six winger. I wish this had happened in Montreal, but as Commandant noted, the situation had become toxic. I wish him all the best in Colorado, or wherever he may be next year.

It was best for both sides to move on as the situation was toxic in Montreal though.
I think so, too. The chorus of complainers was extremely strong, and Drouin would have been unlikely to ever be able to meet those fans' expectations.

Come on top six, score a few.
Three goals with the first or second line one the ice enough? In one period? (The fourth line did add one, too.)

This is a quote from ColHockeyNow from the beginning of January:
QuoteThe 28 year old winger, playing on an $825k contract, has very clearly bought in to what the coaching staff has asked of him. 17 points in his last 22 games is nothing to sneeze at, but it’s his play without the puck that is earning him the extra ice-time. The effort is there on the backcheck, along the boards, and in the defensive zone. He’s heading to the dirty areas around the net, and playing all around smart hockey. Playing with two highly skilled guys who want to push the pace offensively, you can tell that when he’s the third guy back, he understands now that he has to play it safe just in case the puck turns back the other way. It can’t be all offense, all the time.
His skill with the puck never went away. You can see the one-touch passes to hit Nathan MacKinnon in stride on the breakout, and the give-and-go work with Mikko Rantanen, who almost looks surprised when Drouin gets the puck right back to him. Heck, even his shot looks much better than it did during his time in Montreal. In camp, Drouin emphasized that this is the healthiest he’s been in years, as he battled wrist issues with the Canadiens. That’s evident when you watch him play.
Since the article, Drouin is 6+20 in 31 games, and in total 14+32 in 68 games. Top-quality linemates and surely a more relaxed environment is working for him.

Any chance the Sens can win 2 in a row? Highly doubtful as the Oilers should show up in a cranky mood after their lackluster effort in Toronto.
3-3 after two! Oilers are outplaying Ottawa but Pickard has allowed three goals on 12 shots.

The versatility to play either side as your 5/6/7 D is really more value than we give credit for. Its why Josh Gorges stuck around here so long
And that kind of versatility is why they have been giving Guhle right-side experience even if he is weaker playing on that side. Even if he will normally play on the left in the long run ...

I meant. Why dont they (St Louis) play Ylonen over the slug forwards that are getting more icetime, to finish off the season and see what he can do with 14-15 instead of the 10:13 minutes/game and some more PP time?
Right. But unless Hughes starts micromanaging players' ice time, I don't think that's going to happen. At least not once St-Louis is back.

Not sure what you mean?
The discussion I was replying to was about potentially testing Ylonen for the rest of the season. not about the D choices for next season.
And St-Louis has given Ylonen minimal ice time when he has been playing, usually on the fourth line. Whether he is that bad or not, either way it sure doesn't look like St-Louis wants to give him a look in the middle six, whatever his rationale is. So, not much point in inserting him in the lineup now, I expect he'll be somewhere else next season, as much as we have a dearth of middle-six wingers.

While I'm hoping he does, it sounds like a Swedish team is gearing up to make a run at signing him.
I think the big question will be whether he thinks he can crack the Habs' lineup (whether immediately or later) or whether he worries about getting stuck in Laval. Sweden is probably preferable to riding the bus for the Rocket at $70K/year.
-
Joshua Roy is still out of action, and so is Martin St-Louis. Will Struble and Ylonen sit in the press box again? Check here tomorrow to find out that answer and more.

Kapanen 1g GWG 22:00, 7pts in 4 playoff games.
That's also his third game-winning goal in four playoff games. Let's hope he makes the move to Canada after the season is over.

The DEFENCE is the difference ... it has always been the question with Mailloux ... although I am not a big fan of +/-, PK went from +46 to -8 on a Habs team with the 8th best GAA in his rookie season.
That +46 was on a Bulldogs team that finished the season with a +89 goal differential, whereas the Rocket is currently at -9. And that, too, will impact an individual player's +/- score.

Agree on Ylonen, play him over Pearson/Anderson/Gallagher/Armia and see if a dud or not before the off-season (Unless they already know he is basically done as a Hab?)
If St-Louis won’t give him ice time then there is little point in doing that. Although he’d likely at least do better than Anderson …

What is the deal with wives who want cable?? In the case of my missus, it's channels like Makeful and the Food Network that compel me to shill out, LOL.
I count myself lucky that the Mrs doesn't demand it! My mother-in-law needs one channel but fortunately we can pick that up with an inexpensive indoor antenna. 🙂 Otherwise all we have is Sportsnet (for me) and Prime at the moment.
