  1. Yes, he's going to rent 'Fanny and Alexander' tonight. A shocker!
  2. I was 6'2" at 16. Now I'm 6'5". Could happen to him as well. If we were hell-bent on drafting Quebec players, wouldn't we have taken Esposito? Or any Quebec player last year? We are so super-loaded with d prospects of every size, shape, style and caliber it would have been absurd to draft another, unless another Orr was out there. Oh right, we got that last year. Habs just think he is more talented than Kreider, that's all. They weren't the only ones either. Bob mentioned that we have the summer to look at the team's make-up, even until October. I strongly feel he'll swing a deal in the next few days, away from the emotional, supercharged daft-day atmosphere. My gut tells me Marleau is on his way here. No basis for this, but a feeling.
  3. Any Ingmar Bergman film...magic. Radiant. Life. Unbearable Lightness...unbearably light. Matrix...gone, soon obsolete.
  4. I have yet to see any scouting report that says Leblanc will not make it. I have yet to see him referred to as anything except a 'big, strong centre'. He'll break in with us after Saku is long gone, they won't overlap. Timmins said they wanted to move up to take him, tried with Fla., didn't work out so they had their fingers crossed that he would still be there. Sounds like he was their guy, he was pretty excited when he announced Leblanc, and with Bob's blessing I'd think. Who was a better player available, in your opinion? I don't see minor / junior hockey, so have to rely on scouts, professionals, eye-witnesses, analysts, etc. Maybe a few of them are wrong, but haven't heard anything about Leblanc like you mentioned. Give the kid a chance, at least we're not the Raiders drafting Hayward-Bey!
  5. The chances of getting a Marleau out of our 1st-round pick are near nothing. I'd make the trade in a heartbeat. Can't see why they would want Koivu as his replacement, though, seeing as Marleau is better down the line. Maybe Plex has more appeal to them. Don't trade Markov. Don't trade Subban.
  6. Great idea...not going to happen. What could we possibly have that they want, that they can't get in FA time? They'll have Tavares and probably sign Komisarek too, reshaping the core and the identity of the team around something other than DiPietro's groin and Bob Nystrom. Unless we sign Komi to a long-term deal; send him and the Kosts and Plex to them for the pick, or some absurd thing like that.
  7. Staal, they'd want A Kost for sure. Not sure I'd sacrifice that. Marleau, yes please. I'd sacrifice A Kost for him. Top-line ctr that can be shifted to 2nd line.
  8. Kovalev is better than Koivu even at half-speed, live with it. Maddeningly inconsistent, but can be a game-changer. Koivu might have intangibles that none of us know about, but is only an option at 2nd ctr, even then limited. Curious to see what BG has up his sleeve...overhaul at C? D? The works? Bad apples off the cart?
  9. Sure Phatz, but you can say that Gainey had built steadily, patiently, then the bottom fell out this year. And he is cutting heads - coaching staff, minor leagues, soon a host of underperforming FA players - making it clear that: 1 - he will not stand pat for a failed season 2 - he is fully prepared to assume responsibility / accountability, and, like a 'man', will not walk away from the problem but try to fix it and right the ship A dumba*s gm would have been trading away youth for vets, getting shortchanged everywhere, in an effort to ensure a playoff appearance in our 100th season, blah blah blah. Burke is amusing, but he builds slowly and steadily. look at his reaction to Kevin Lowe / Dustin Penner to see how much he admires the riverboat gambler type. All will be revealed in about two weeks, methinks!
  10. Hell yeah I am down with that, except... 1) Hamr's contract and performance and age render him untrade-able. We have to eat it for another year with him and hope he regains form (not impossible by any stretch: pair with with an ultra-responsible, physical defensive d-man who can pass and we have something there) 2) Depends what you overpay Komi by. Nit-picking of course, but potentially a lot to be won or lost in the margins of the salary-cap era. Anyway looks like he wants out of the circus and nothing we can do about it. Forward, march!
  11. How much more or less of a drive for french players / management will there be with the Molsons in charge, as opposed to Quebecor? Just asking.
  12. Beauchemin will bring a better all-around game and for less money. Remember what the Isles will potentially offer Komisarek. IO agree, no-one now can step up and take his role. We'll have to look elsewhere though. He'll make more than Markov, Hamrlik, without being in the same offensive stratosphere as they are. For the record, I'd love to have him back...only only only at the right price. Obviously there is nothing wrong with Heatley's goal-scoring pedigree. Obviously it would be great to have that aspect of him on board. Obviously my post was not in reference to his on-ice abilities. Ever heard anything about him off-ice? I guess if you think the organisation is adept at babysitting, like they showed last year, hell, go for it. And obviously if it is us asking, Ottawa won't mind driving the price up that much more.
  13. Heatly, I'd be absolutely shocked if we even went for him. The last, absolute last thing the team needs are more character issues, substantiated or not. Plus Ottawa can't be so dumb as to let a star player settle inside the division again. Komisarek's move is predictable, as I said a few days back, prepare to un-stitch your #8's from your shirts. For the price he'll command we can do better. If we had traded him during the season we would have had very, very little in return, who knows if he would have passed a physical even. If we re-sign him it will be way overvalued, I'd rather gamble like that on Vinny's monster contract and his guaranteed 80+ points a year if it came to that. Wonder if Bob is considering trading up in the draft, after taking away a lot of choices for Timmins. And if you want to fight Komi, maybe wearing a Lucic jersey might help? Of course, letting that filthy shitrag touch your skin would probably give you something nastier than swine flu...
  14. Not according to Timmins...he has confirmed he is a 100% best player available guy. http://habsinsideout.com/main/20626 See end of article, where he wraps up with: "We don't draft for need," Timmins said. "BPA: best player available."
  15. I think these guys got it right as to why Kirk was retained: http://fourhabsfans.blogspot.com/2009/06/k...-continues.html Clever boy Kirk - the Kingston bit is a brilliant cover...
  16. 'Bobsy twins' would change the whole face of the team in one coup. But an insanely overpriced coup from the sounds of it. sofl, any half-decent players on Florida that liked Martin and we could poach? What is Horton's contract status? Nice 2nd-line ctr it seems. Frankie B, come on down!
  17. Well, if George seriously thinks that LFC can contend with the Real's, Chelski's and ManUre's of the world, so be it. You have to think he'll sell the majority of the team. Any guesses as to who the winning bid will be? I'll say the Molson's, not of any affinity or whatever to them, just think the fact that they hold 20% of the team probably makes it easiest for George to deal with them, as well as the can of worms Quebecor would bring with their Habs-TV ida and the Molsons allied indirectly with RDS. Could Bob also move up in the draft to get a bigger-name ctr? Could be an interesting weekend!
  18. Well, Higgins has certainly played like a top-6 forward the past couple of years, no? Coupled with his off-ice leadership and guidance for younger players, I can't imagine what Bob is waiting for. Much deserved raise...err...call us when it happens. I am desperate for him to re-fashion himself and lead the team, but he has left an abyss between his potential and his actual performance - in all aspects of being a pro. If he wants the big $$$, surely at some point performance will play into it? If he plays his way up to the second line this year, Bob should absolutely negotiate a longer-term deal during the season. Higgins could flourish in a defensively-responsible system like Martin might employ, what with his speed and skating ability. But he has a long way to go before a big extension. If he f*cks around again, it will be his last year and he's gone.
  19. In the cap era, with the team already spending close to or up to the limit, his desire to splash out on a player or two becomes a hindrance if anything: see NYR, Phlia's tightrope dance (at the cap limit with only 18 players!), etc. Unless, of course, the players are Crosby and Malkin. Love to see Basille punch Bettman in the face, then Gary running and crying to his master David Stern, the little lapdog he is.
  20. As opposed to the poms, who have turned everything they've ever touched to sh*t. Literally. Bulldogs on tour! Bring your gaelic guidebooks!
  21. I meant short-term, as in someone signing him to an offer sheet over and above what he's making now. After the season ha had, good luck. Komi is a goner, have stated so numerous times, only way he'll stay is if Martin makes him the centrepiece of something and begs Bob to resign him. Even then the price would be exorbitant. Very curious now to see Martin bring in his type of people and who they'll be.
  22. I'd be astonished if Higgins leaves, unless we trade him. The 'heart' and 'skill' of this team leave a lot to be desired. Absolutely we should keep Tanguay. Komisarek might be Martin's kind of player, maybe we'll try to sign him after all? Can't see him with us though.
  23. Have to think yes on the second point, I think he'd even can Gainey if he got control. Christ, does he have any kids who play? Having visions of a Citizen Kane singer-girlfriend thing now... Go Molson! Go Bronfman! Go American / Canadian guy!
  24. Well, for whatever reason, I never thought that Komisarek would be this intangible, untouchable Scott Stevens clone - though I liked him a lot and thought he would be an excellent captain or assistant captain one day. I even admired him in the playoffs in terms of effort and attitude. However, no amount of effort or attitude can mask his weaknesses. And those weaknesses are some of what BG has identified as needing to improve: better puckhandling at the back. I'd love for them to be able to keep him, but within reason of the cap: face up to it, he will be drastically overpaid by some team more interested in marketing than actual success (Islanders). We cannot tie up 5 or 6 million in a d man with zero offensive ability with: 1) our massive weaknesses at forward, particularly centre 2) the cap, and the lowering cap next year 3) the potential of our up-and-coming defensive corps, with rugged defenders, puck movers, you name it So Komi walks. So we pitch guys like Beauchemin, Oduya, Morris, maybe Jay Bo, whoever. What can we offer? -play with the best d-man in the East -play for a city that breathes and seethes hockey, and only hockey; and for the Montreal Canadiens -play for a coach with a pretty successful record, experienced, and who will install a strong system -money. lots of money. etc etc etc We could match or better any offer he will get. But you don't keep your players - even your home-grown ones - if it hampers your overall picture unreasonably. If he gets 3.5 offers only, maybe we could offer 4. But count on some idiot opening with 5, then get ready to unstitch those number 8's off your jerseys. So back to rumours: I didn't see the Avalanche play this year, Laperriere turned them down. Any gas left in his tank?
