  1. Edmonton's biggest need is veteran leadership from someone who's actually won something.
  2. I'd argue that moving a guy like Gio and bringing a more skilled, tougher player, gives us what we need to do well in the playoffs. I also don't think it's fair to use Perry's career average, you have to consider the last 3 or 4 years, since it took him a while to hit his stride, and also need to consider last year was a down year for most of the team.
  3. We have a lousy record within our division, have blown a lot of leads (but have done a good job of coming back from blown leads). Keep in mind, in the playoffs, things are a lot tighter, refs will have their whistles in their pocket when it comes to the tough/borderline legal hits, but will still cause the undisciplined stuff- which has been out Achilles heal for a long time. Last time we finished first, we weren't tough enough in the playoffs (although I do like thus team better).
  4. I don't see how they can afford Perry at those numbers- particularly when they won't have guys like Selanne and Koivu not being available as bargains in 2 years time, AND still be competitive
  5. If we can pick up someone that would move one of Emelin, gorges or Diaz, to the bottom pairing, or a 7th dman,I think that would be a good thing.
  6. For me it's about replacing with a bigger, more skilled player, so ther is more size in the top 6 - if either DD, gally Jr or Gionta play together, or top 9. Gionta also has clearly lost a step and isn't as consistent in his effectiveness (you need to look beyond the stats), although the effort is still there.
  7. I agree, he probably wouldn't want to go, but it doesn't hurt to try. That is something I'd even propose at the end of the year.
  8. Not necessarily, you can never have too much defensive depth. The only dmen from this year's team I want back are Subban, Markov, Emelin, gorges and Diaz. We have no idea if tinordi and Bieulieau are going to be ready next year.
  9. The point I was making that even though I'd like to unload both Gionta and Kaberle, and TB was willing to take them in exchange for Vinny, there is no way I'd make that deal. I would not want vinny and his horrible contract unless TB was willing to eat at least half of his cap hit. If anyone other then Boston or Toronto in our division or future conference were to offer a #1 or even a #2 pick and a prosoect for Gionta, or a number #3 for Kaberle I'd move them. If we could get Gionta to wave his no trade, I really think we'd be able to move him to Edmonton in a package for Paajarvi.
  10. 100% agree. Playing either of them with Jagr would help their development a lot more than having them play with Moen, Armstrong, white, or even Prust. It wasn't a coincidence that Giroux really broke out when playing with Jagr.
  11. 100% agree. Unless we move someone else and get a 2nd back, I really wouldn't want to move the 2nd either. Is jäger signed for 1 year or 2?If the Stars wanted Gionta for him, I'd make that move in a second!
  12. Depends how you define cheap. If Dallas wants a prospect like belieau, or a first, the price is too high.Jagr should have been signed last summer.
  13. Agreed. We could use a crease clearer and puck mover.
  14. I think even dumping Kaberle's and Gionta's contracts (both of whom I'd like to unload) for Vinny would be a horrible move. Vinny's got too many years left at too high of a cap hit (8, 9??)
  15. I'd do that in a second. However Doug Wilson would probably be fired for even considering it.While I think Weber will succeed after leaving Minteeal and Leblanc will be an effective 3rd liner, all three are at a all time low in their value.
  16. Price looked soft on that 2nd goal, but kept the habs in it afterwards and is approaching 40 saves for the night.
  17. big change last two games with the PP, is Subban is playing the point on the other side. I couldn't figure out why MT had on him the right side, when he has always been much more effective on the left side.
  18. well, one thing that separates this year's team, then past team, is there is no quit. Give up a 2 goal lead and get totally out played and then retake the two goal lead again.
  19. I just don't get this team. I don't think I've ever remembered a habs team that has blown as many two goal leads - particularly 2-0 leads as this team.
  20. well they really need Carey to shut the door here!
  21. well, i guess Weber will be sitting next game. THis team really gives up too many leads.
  22. I could see them considering a buy-out next year, before they lose the compliance buy-out option.
  23. You have to be kidding me??? Even if TB offered to take GIonta AND Kaberle's contracts in exchange for Vinny, i wouldn't make that deal, let alone trade Eller or Beaulieu. On the other hand if Gainey was still here he would probably offer, Eller, Bealiau, Gallgher and DD.
  24. I don't get the love for Gill. yes he is a PK specialist. Yes he raises our average hieght. But the guy is useless 5 on 5 and has the physicality of a marshmallow.
