  1. It seems like aside from Morrow, there's still a bunch of UFA's you would expect to have contracts, and trainning camps are about to start. Thomas, Gilbert, Whitney, Hainsey, Gagne, Boyes, Malhotra... Surely all these guys and more can find jobs if they're willing to take a pay cut. Did they just forget to sign contracts??
  2. I agree, but I think Gionta also fits this description (seeing as Briere, Eller and Gally can all play wing anyways). I would prefer to have Desharnais on the team rather than Gionta.
  3. A team that needs to rebuild probably shouldn't be throwing around offer sheets -- the draft picks are more important.
  4. If Tinordi has a good camp and if everyone stays healthy, we will have quite the logjam after Emelin is back.
  5. Didn't Edler just sign a 6-year extension? I have trouble believing Vancouver would move him right after signing him (ditto with Desharnais). Not to mention he has a cap hit of 5 million, which is considerable. Subban needs to be resigned this season.
  6. I'm not sure why everyone is so ready to toss away Beaulieu. He's projected to be a very complete defenseman, size, speed and great offensive instinct. He's a keeper. My 'don't touch' list: - Price - Subban - Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Tinordi - Beaulieu - Gallagher (although a sideways move to help alleviate size issues for the team could work) In my book, these are the guys you want to build your team around. Obviously Tinordi and Beaulieu are unproven at this point and it;s possible they may not live up to expectations, but at this point there's no reason to doubt they won't be top-4 guys based on what we've seen. Also, this idea of trading Beaulieu away because of an assault charge in ridiculous. The guy can play hockey. You know who else was charged with assault? Patrick Kane, AKA that guys who just won the Conn Smythe.
  7. It would be foolish to ship out Pleks unless we have another legit top 6 center coming back. Eller still has to prove he can play at a high level consistently, Desharnais is too one-dimensional, Galchenyuk isn't ready and Briere is also one-dimensional and declining in his older age. No one can step in and replace Pleks as a 2-way, top 6 workhorse.
  8. At this point I think we sign Morrow or begin the season with our current roster.
  9. Even with Ryder's decent production over the past 2 years, he still doesn't do much while he's not scoring. And I'm not just talking about playing a 2-way game -- I mean he doesn't really create any offence be himself. He mainly drifts around the offensive zone and waits for the puck to come to him before going for the snipe/tip. Briere, at least when he's not scoring, he can still play a strong offensive game. Like Ryder, he plays and opportunistic perimeter game, but can do so much more with the puck on his stick in terms of carrying and passing. Overall, I think Briere is a much more reliable offensive factor regardless of production stats. If given the choice, I would pick Briere over Ryder.
  10. Well, Eriksson > Horton, Iginla > Jagr. Obviously lost depth in their bottom 6 though.
  11. So I guess Jersey will not be in Jagr and Morrow big time...
  12. Don't forget that signing Kovalchuck also cost the club 3 million dollars, a 3rd round and 1st round pick. I'm not sure, but has Jersey already forfeited that pick? I believe they had the choice of which year.
  13. We absolutely can't move Bourque out. When he was healthy, he was one of our most consistent offensive threats. Low cap hit, big, great skater, plays physical and can score goals.
  14. That's great news. Tired of having players locked up in College for years. I understand that having a higher education is great, but when you project to make at least 6 figures as a pro-athlete, nuts to that!
  15. Stewart is the exact type of player we need. If he's on the block, I'd go hard on him. But the fact that they got Roy means they probably won't be interested in DD, which was my hope.
  16. I wouldn't mind Jagr as 3rd line scoring depth, but the fact is we don't really have any empty roster spots. We would have to move someone, which isn't really worth it considering what we would be adding. To upgrade our current roster on wing, the first trade would obviously be Gionta, and I don't see Jagr as being an upgrade there.
  17. I hope we aren't done for the day...
  18. The price was pretty high for Ottawa... I guess they are serious about contending now rather than in a few years. I don't agree with throwing away assets just for the sake of changing up the team, but it's hard not to be envious when Toronto, Bruins and Ottawa all got big upgrades.
  19. Looks Ottawa got Ryan. He would have been nice...
