  1. If his back issues persist I can see him retiring. Like most I was stoked when we signed him. He was coming off a great year in Pitt and looked to be the player we really needed to stick up for his teammates. However, like most of the Habs last season, off rink distractions seems to curtail all expectations. Now it seems that BGL has taken to devoting his time to other ventures and does not appear to be interested in playing the game anymore. I truly believe he is contemplating hanging up the skates. However, I think we really need him and hopefully the changes will play on his mind and allow himself to be motivated to play again. If everything Martin has done in the past is transferred to the system he will bring to the Habs, BGL should have a role. He will get more than 2 mins a game under Martin because on paper this team is starting to look like a 4 line team. If BGL is put on LTIR or retires and whatever, there is still Alex Henry in the system that can come and fill that role. My 2 cents. Tak
  2. What I don't understand is people complaining about everything Gainey does. It was so obvious from last year that this team did not have a good room atmosphere. Gainey and I bet the organization itself was fed up with it all. So, the most logical thing to do is get rid of most if not all of the players that you can and start over. When you look at it the only real core players we lost were Komisarek (UFA) and Higgins (trade) plus one prospect that still hasn't left college yet. The loss of Koivu is hard yes because he was all heart but has been replaced by a younger more potential points player (yes highly paid but that is sometimes the price you have to pay to get better). Plus Gomez is only signed for 5 more years which is a heck of a lot better than the 11 years that Lecavalier would have brought. I bet though if Gainey actually did trade two prospects a pick and a couple of roster players for him no one would be complaining. Except think about it we would be exactly where we are now. Gainey made the better choice in my opinion because he did not salvage the future. Ah the future, look at the spots that are open for the number 2 ranked farm system in the league. There is potential for 5 or 6 rookies or second year players to make the team and most of them are ready. In order to make room for all those top prospects Gainey had to clear spots for them to compete for. To me that is the number one reason that all the UFA's were not signed and at least one trade has been made so far. When you have 4 or 5 forwards and at least 2 or 3 defensemen knocking on the door hard you need to give them the chance. This is their chance. Plus, these prospects and new players get a chance to play under a solid system of puck possession. Martin, believe it or not is all about puck possession. The more time you have the puck the less chances the opposition has to score. Less chances to score and Price will shine. Oh and wait, what did Gainey do, he went out and got defensemen that know how to clear the puck from the front of the net. How many times last year did you scream at the TV to most of our d-men to clear the puck when it was in their feet only to see it go to the back of the net from someones stick or what not not being tied up. It was frustrating as hell. All in all, I think Gainey has done exactly what he had planned to do after the first 5 years. The organization 5 years ago had hardly any talent knocking hard on the door. Today we have plenty and more are to come. It may take couple of real game situations to get their legs and used to each other but this team is going to be dynamic to watch. I am looking forward to seeing the Habs compete every night and not every 3rd game. Takabru
  3. I would like to get Emelin over here too, I think he will be a good fit for the Habs. Anyone heard of surgery may be needed for BGL? Apparently on his back and he said if he does get the surgery he is probably done with the NHL? Not that I would mind this I think we got him at the right time but the NHL is changing too fast for him. Now with new rules about staged fights he will have to play a lot harder PS I do know he was injured most of last year.
  4. One of the D setups I have come up with that I really like is: Markov-Regehr Komisarek-Beauchemin Foster-Weber Schneider In 2010-2011 Subban joins the fray.
  5. How would the contract for Emelin work? He is 23 so still falls under Entry Level contracts right? That would mean either a 1 year deal with bonuses or a 2 year deal with bonuses depending where his b-day falls. If this is the case would that be enough money to sway him to come over considering how much the KHL is paying some players? By the way, I would love for Emelin to come over. I think he has the type of game that is better suited for the smaller ice surface where he can get on players faster. Also, he has the ability to shoot the puck hard and accurate from all I read and saw about him. He can put up points if necessary with a little help and encouragement.
  6. They will not be able to afford Phoneuf, Regehr, Sarich and JBo. The Flames would be dumb to move Phoneuf and they would be just amazing with the combo of Phoneuf and JBo. So, as a Habs fan I am looking at this scenario and saying "why not put a package together to get Regehr?" He is a top minute, hard-hitting, solid defencemen who is only 28 years old and is signed for 4 more years. The next question I would ask myself is "what do the Flames need?" Well, this is easy actually, they need a decent backup goalie that can take some games from Kipper and not be a liability. Hey, I think to myself, the Habs have just that type of goalie in Jaroslav Halak. I know this would not be ideal for Halak since Kipper has 5 years left on his contract but Kipper is getting up there in age and if Halak performs really well, they could trade Kipper some time later. Now, I think to myself just Halak for Regehr would not work so what else do the Flames need without taking back too much in NHL contracts. They need some defensive depth. Hey, I think to myself we have that too. So, I would add Mathieu Carle and Ryan O'Byrne to the deal. The Trade: CGY: Robyn Regehr (4.02m CAP Hit) MTL: Jaroslav Halak (0.75m CAP Hit), Mathieu Carle (0.850m CAP Hit), Ryan O'Byrne (0.942m CAP Hit) I think this trade works for both teams and gives the Flames the cap space to go after JBo. It gives Montreal a rock solid d-man to play with Markov and when we resign Komisarek he can be placed in a more suitable role in the 3-4 position. We probably need to move Hammer or buy him out but that is for a latter discussion. BTW: First time post so I thought I would get started with a bang. Tak P.S. The Flames could easily move a forward to clear the CAP space to sign JBo but I think this would be harder to do then trading Regehr.
