  1. I think there is just about a next to zero chance that they select a dman with their top pick. You forgot to mention the dman that they have penciled in the lineup next season, Subban, Markov, Emelin and Gorges make a sexy top 4. Campoli is gone and perhaps Weber, and having Kaberle and Diaz back there isn't as bad as people think. And with Beaulieu, Tinordi and Ellis coming, it doesn't make sense to forgo an opportunity to get a potential elite forward.
  2. The more I think about this hiring, the more I like it. Unlike most new coach hires, Therrien is very familiar with this team already, as he's been working for RDS lately. He's already coached them and knows exactly what that entails. There is only one player (Markov) who is still with the team from when he was there. There is new owners and management, so it kind of is a fresh start with a familiar face. And because he is a rehire, it sort of promotes a team loyalty and identity, which will help with the image of the team around the league. I read somewhere that when Therrien told his Grandma he was able to coach the Habs again, he shed a tear. I definitely like a guy behind the bench who appreciates the opportunity given to him. And I'm still holding out hope that Crosby will become UFA next year and sign with the Habs, and perhaps Therrien will be a factor in that.
  3. I will reserve my judgement until the season gets under way. I think he deserves a chance to prove himself.
  4. Lol, great thread! And if there is a "Fire Therrien" thread, we may as well get a "Fire Bergevin" thread going because he hired him and his ass will be next. While we're at it, get the "Tank for MacKinnon" going as well. I'm looking forward to another exciting season.
  5. Crawford is a highly decorated coach, he was at one time "the man".
  6. I was really hoping that he would continue to play. At age 42, he is still among the game's best defensemen, which is incredible. I think Detroit is going to suffer without him.
  7. How is Terrien the front runner to get it? I think I'd rather rehire Martin, at least he's still on payroll. It's gotta be Crawford if it's down to those two.
  8. Based on the number of chins that Spacek has, I think it's fair to say he doesn't need anymore cookies.
  9. The more I have learned about him, the more I would be comfortable if he was named the coach.
  10. There's no question that the trade was a terrible one. I remember thinking " in Gainey we trust". For whatever reason he had, I believed it was for the best of the team. But to get back an aging, overpaid defenseman who we would never really utilize or get anything out of, is nothing short of highway robbery. However, at the same time, do you really want somebody like Ribiero as one of the faces of our franchise? Can you imagine him hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head.....with any team ever? The Canadiens are THE classiest organizations of them all and regardless of on-ice talent, we will not be represented by somebody who is obviously a douche. We have been shipping douches out of here left and right for the last decade despite of skill level. If this is 100% true, then that is awesome. Pics of granddaughter? See, that is something that a horny frat boy would do, not a supposed leader of the greatest hockey team in history.
  11. I'm afraid that we are doomed to be reminded of that trade for the next 15 years.
  12. Exactly the reason why Laraque was and is worthless in today's NHL. Sure he probably has one of the best fighting records but what's the point when all of the fights are pre-planned? Hockey fights should be spontaneous and occur naturally because of emotion. I want a guy on my team that will punch a guy in his face because he is pissed off, not because it's "his role".
  13. I agree but any one of us would have done the same thing to try and get the most wins/production, in order to bolster our resume.
  14. Ribiero is still a confirmed clubbing douche, but the only difference now is he has a different area code. The Stars were in PEI for training camp in the fall and some of them were out at a popular local club. A good friend of mine is a bartender there and said that Ribiero ordered a drink and argued the volume of actual alcohol poured in it. He did so in a way as if saying, "I think I know what this drink is supposed to taste like", while my friend was like " I think I know what I'm doing". And then to top it off Money Bags Mike passed him one American dollar afterwards and said something to the effect of "there ya go brother". So I think it's one of those cases where he is the same guy but out of the media spotlight.
  15. I loved what Staubitz brought to the lineup and hope to have him back.
  16. Right, so he holds both the coach and the GM position currently with Quebec. So we know that he knows what both job titles entail. So how do you come to the conclusion that he would separate himself from knowing that? Apparently people here assume Roy is an egotistical baby and wants all the power or none at all because he holds dual roles at the minor level. Currently there are zero people that do so in the NHL, but Roy is going to strut in and expect to run the show from behind the bench AND from the press box? Get real.
  17. You are insinuating that because Bergevin is a rookie and there is no known relationship between the two that there will be a power struggle? Last time I checked, the GM has the authority to fire a coach. Roy wouldn't have a leg to stand on if he let his "ego" get in the way. And if he is such an "ego-maniac", then you can't assume that it wouldn't come into play merely because he knows and respects the GM. Unless you know Roy and Bergevin personally, you have no idea what their working relationship would be like. These are professional men and know exactly what type of situation they are coming into when they sign on the dotted line.
  18. If shit hits the fan regardless of who the coach and GM is or how much experience he has, things will become a circus.
  19. Mike Milbury has GM and coaching experience, doesn't mean he would do a good job. I think that the right personality is more important than experience. The way you interact with people and the strong relationships that are built go a long way in a management position.
  20. Well then it's settled, we all agree on this list. That was easy.
  21. Round 2 St. Louis in 6 Nashville in 7 Wash in 6 Philly in 5
  22. You mean the young power forward that we have dreamed of for over a decade who also lead our team in scoring? Any Habs fan who suggests that this type of player is more expendable than a two-way defenseman is out of his mind. I'm not taking anything away from Subban, but merely saying that Pacioretty type players are harder to come by these days. And speaking as a two-way defenseman who is also Captain, in both my ice hockey and ball hockey leagues, I do understand the importance.
  23. It seems like there aren't many top notch GM candidates out there and I will be disappointed no matter who they select. Unless they can snag a GM who will be fired in the next couple weeks.
  24. I will have to agree with Mr. Sakiqc on this one. He is not saying that we should trade Subban, but rather if one of those 3 would be traded, it would be him. Obviously it depends on the return, it would have to be a part of a big name coming back. Surely everyone can agree that defensive prospects are easier to come by in recent years than before. All of the recent draft classes have been stock pilled with defensemen in the first round. I love PK as much as the next guy, but if he had to be a part of a package that was able to get us an established star, then so be it. It also depends on what our future GM's plans are for this team. Are we tweaking for now or are we building for the future?
