  1. Trading for Scott Gomez 2.0 (7 million dollar cap hit, 3 goals) been in decline for many years now, is not the way i want to go.
  2. Thats fine... but why are we shitting on plekanec... who set up our only goal, and centred the most dangerous line all night.
  3. And Plekanec was actually very good tonight, picked up an assist, and was one of our most dangerous forwards. Of course lets pile on him. Lets not mention that Galchenyuk, Carr, and Andrighetto had a brutal night as a line (so much so that Carr eventually found himself benched). And yes, Galchenyuk has been great lately, but tonight he wasn't, and lets not ignore that while we pile on pleks.
  4. This myth is really getting tired. A simple look at shot charts shows that its not true. They are about average in getting shot attempts from the home plate (hextally) high scoring chance areas. They are also very good at preventing them from high chance areas. The stats don't support this belief, which may have been true in past seasons but isn't true now. And before you bring up, oh but they haven't been good lately... they've actually been better during the slump, than they were at the start of the year. But lets not let get facts get in the way of the Habs are small/soft narrative that has persisted for years (not just you, I blame many who keep repeating this).
  5. Tampa would be silly to take Shattenkirk (who is a rental and will cost big bucks to re-sign) for Drouin. Vatanen is a much better trade for them with all the guys they need to re-sign and the fact they will need to replace Stamkos.
  6. I was more upset with markov on the first goal for pittsburgh than i was with him on the last play. Where the was he on Hornqvist's goal. Also what was Pateryn doing on the second goal? Like CC is saying, can't afford those defensive breakdowns, and those were two huge ones. There were more too but Condon kept them out of the net. Overall way too many breakdowns.
  7. 28:27 of ice for Markov. I don't think the guy is as finished as some do... but its pretty clear he can't play those kinda minutes.
  8. Personally, I don't know what is impressive about being totally dominated by a bad rangers team and squeaking out a win. I watched that entire game, and my image of the capitals is worse now than it was before the game.
  9. Thats the gamble you take. Hindsight is 20/20 though.... You wouldn't have had Markov in the 2014 playoffs, a year that if Price isn't injured by Kreider we might have made the cup final. It makes no sense to trade prospects and picks for guys like Vanek, and then sell Markov at the same time for prospects and picks, cause we don't want to re-sign him. Its chasing your tail. You either are going for it, or you're selling assets, you can't be both.
  10. Have the Habs turned a corner? Following Wednesday night's victory over the New Jersey Devils, the Canadiens are now winners of 3 of their last 5 games. Before that, things were miserable, and as the standings have bunched up, they will need to get some wins to maintain their spot in the standings. It won't be easy though, as tonight's visitor, the Pittsburgh Penguins seem to have turned things around under new coach Mike Sullivan. Sidney Crosby, all-star game snub, has been scoring again and the Penguins fortunes have turned. Without Jeff Petry in the lineup, Michel Therrien and company must come up with a game plan as to how to defend the fact that the Penguins have two elite forward trios. Evgeni Malkin has a 6 game point streak against the Habs. Kunitz-Crosby-Perron Hornqvist-Malkin-Kessel Porter-Cullen-Fehr Kuhnhackl-Bonino-Rust Maatta-Letang Dumoulin-Lovejoy Cole-Daley Fleury Zatkoff @ Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher Carr - Galchenyuk - Andrighetto Eller - Desharnais - Byron Flynn - Mitchell - Smith-Pelly Markov - Subban Beaulieu - Pateryn Emelin- Barberio Condon Scrivens
  11. Exactly, you want year 1 and 2 of markov, the price is paying for year 3... thats business in a cap world.
  12. Gormley may not have bloodlines, but the guy has size, a better junior career, was a higher NHL pick, and has had a better AHL career too.
  13. Gormley just cleared waivers. Would Tinordi?
  14. Last year he got Petry cheap and then re-signed him. I have no doubt he's going to do something.
  15. Barberio has been good, but he's a #5 D tops..... Beaulieu can be a #2 (he's not yet, but can be) We really lack a top 4 if we move Beaulieu, and I'd only do it for something really special.
  16. Confirmed that Petry is day to day. He's been playing with something as many suspected.
  17. I don't care if he's scoring goals or getting primary assists... you know what, he's producing points. Does it matter if he's the one who puts the puck in the net, or he's setting up Chucky and Carr with point blank opportunities? Not really Cause that is who he's gonna play with if we trade for him, Chucky and Carr and both of those guys can finish if he's creating offensive opportunities.
  18. Vanek was a better PPG player in Montreal than he has been in Minnesota. Was letting him walk really the wrong decision?
  19. I wasn't addressing anyone in particular, more rhetorical questions to the complaints about why we haven't made a big trade. Played more at LW from what I've seen, but I've also seen him at RW at times. Could be like Carr/Ghetto/Byron/Flynn/Weise all guys we have used on both wings at varying times.
  20. Has there been anyone better at getting primary assists. "At just 20-years of age, Drouin's best hockey is still several years in front of him. That's not to say Drouin isn't an NHL ready asset at this stage of his career, as his 1.6 p/60 is good for fifth on the Canucks roster at even strength. Of note is that Drouin's rate production at even strength actually checks out as the highest on the Lightning, among players with 100+ minutes played." http://canucksarmy.com/2016/1/3/should-the-vancouver-canucks-kick-the-tires-on-jonathan-drouin
