  1. Why is it Bourque vs Mesar. The Habs would have both after this trade. We need talent. Not every prospect will work. You increase your chances of one of them working by having both and letting them compete for.spots.
  2. Roy had a better junior career than Beck and he wasnt ready to be in the NHL. Let Beck spend some time in the AHL. Checking fellow teenagers is one thing. He will need to learn how not to be overpowered by men before hes NHL ready. I dont want to rush him
  3. Look right now we dont have enough top 9 forwards... or even enough top 6 guys. Id add more and not worry about having too many. If that becomes the issue we can cross that bridge but with so many unknowns from Dach to Newhook to the prospects etc... not a bad idea to add a guy who can play a two way game and score 60 points.
  4. Mesar is a winger in the pros IMO. Beck is a centre.
  5. Evans and Gignac are what they are. They can fill in at times but are fourth liners. Their age doesnt suggest much more than what we've seen. Mesar is a guy i mentioned as a possible top.9 forward. 30+ games without a goal for Ylonen, i think we are seeing hes not a top.9. Kidney, Farrell have a ways to go in the AHL as they have been pretty ordinary so far but they are rookies. Beck looks promising but hasnt even hit the AHL yet (same is true of Mesar). They are a bit away from the NHL and both are maybes more than sure things
  6. The thing is right now we keep talking about how this team sucks cause its essentially been a one line time. Ok, we have our one line. Ok, Dach and Newhook are top 6 forwards who haven't been healthy, you'd hope to have them. You still need four more solid players to get to 9..... With the trade, I'd hope to fill one of the 4 holes, and hope a draft pick, a prospect or two coming through the system and maybe another acquisition would do it. I'd also be cautious of anointing Beck as the third line centre. We all hope he can be that, and his trajectory so far is good but he's still a 19 year old junior player, we've seen many who looked good and took time in the AHL or never made it at all.
  7. My third line centre is probably getting nearly as many minutes of even strength play as the guys in the top 2 lines. Going 1D and 4Fwds on both PP units, I need 8 forwards for the PP, so two of my third liners (and ideally the centre to help win faceoffs) are going to be used on the PP. I'm not opposed to having a good third line centre. Many here wanted to re-sign Monahan, who would have been the third centre next season. This is a younger player, with less injury concerns, who might even be better. That's what I'm looking at here. And yes, he won't get the first line wingers, but he should get some talent. Lets look at the 2025-26 season. This is what I would hope for after such a trade. Top 3 lines worth of forwards...... (9 in no particular order).... Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Dach, Newhook, Mittelstadt, (Roy, Mesar, Heineman, 1 would be in the trade and hope 1 develops), the 2024 first round draft pick (ours), and one other prospect coming through or one other acquisition on the free agent market/Trade By that time, you'd have cleared some bad contracts and hope Anderson could also be moved to make room for that 9th forward. I think we need 10 or 11 guys we feel comfortable playing in our top 9 as injuries will happen.
  8. I look at it this way.... You can pay ___ Million for your top 3 centres. Some team might be paying 13 million for matthews and 11 for Tavares and then have to go cheap on their #3. Or McDavid/Draksaitl, etc On the Habs could you pay 8 for Suzuki, 5 for Dach and 7 for mittelstadt and stjll come in cheaper and have more money for wingers and defense.
  9. Not your traditional checker but the Sabres control possession and scoring chances pretty well when he is on the ice. These last two years hes really improved at both ends. And as a playmaker, is top 10 in the league in terms passing to create a scoring chance at 5v5 hockey.
  10. He had 59 points last year and is on pace to be even better this year. I dont think hes a joel armia. Hes doing it without a ton of PP time too. His game is more playmaking than goal scoring. I think with Suzuki, Dach and Mittelstadt wed have 3 excellent 2-way centres who can play against any team's top line.
  11. By the Jets i meant the pick The Jets 1st round pick (acquired for Monahan) one of the defence, and a decent prospect.
  12. I dont think you need to give.up our pick. I think itd be more like the Jets pick, one of Harris/Barron/Struble, and another prospect like Roy.
  13. Do you actually watch these players play? You seem convinced on things but I dont know how many games of theirs you are actually watching. The views are out there. Comparing players to Lindros Wondering if Celebrini is really the number 1. Like i dont know what to say to these things.
  14. Watch if anyone is a late scratch in this one. Could indicate a callup with the RHP injury.
  15. One thing to keep in mind, (and not just him but all KHLers) the quality of the league has really dropped since the war as there is far less quality foreign players. Swedes, Finn, Canadians, Americans, are far less prevalent than they were before
  16. https://x.com/NHL_Watcher/status/1756030326592201051?s=20 25 years old. RfA this summer. Very, very good at creating offence 5v5. Id absolutely be inquiring, though i doubt the Sabres want to move him in the division.
  17. Guhle has really improved his skating since being drafted and its a plus for him. Matheson was probably the best skater on the team for most of the season, however he has been overtaken but not by Guhle. The best skater on the team right now? Brandon Gignac. He can fly.
  18. I think if the Habs move Harris (or any young D) in the summer they would be looking for a similar aged forward instead of a pick.
  19. It takes more skill than you think to score goals, regardless of sliding them 4 feet into an open net. The NHL game moves so fast and the hand eye coordination needed is high. Im confused as to why you think he will be able to score these goals at a high rate, when he isnt able to score them at a high rate in junior hockey playing against 16-19 year olds.
  20. Ryan Smith was a 6th overall pick At 17 he scored 50 goals and 105 points in 72 games. At 18 he scored 41 goald and 86 points in just 50 games. At 19 he was in the NHL. Its another horrible comparison. Tenacity is one aspect of this, but michael pezzetta has plenty of tenacity, so did Steve Begin, Tom Kostopolous, Travis Moen and many guys who never get out of beer league. Scoring NHL goals is hard, it takes more than just tenacity, it takes skill too. You dont seem to understand that.
  21. Of course there are always late bloomers, but there fact is that right now there isn't a single one who has followed the path of Florian Xhekaj and went on to score 30 goals or 60 points in a single season in the NHL. Could he make the NHL? of course. Is he going to reach the levels that have been predicted by Sir Boagalot? That is highly unlikely. In fact there is no precedent for someone with these stats at 19 to do it (37 points in 45 games right now).
  22. If you don't understand why age is important to a players development, then really there is no hope for you. Its the biggest key factor in measuring a player's growth on a year to year basis. And you keep bringing up ridiculous examples. Yes Cale Makar played in a Junior A league. He did that so he could maintain his eligibility for college hockey, not because he wasn't good enough to go in the WHL. He also completely dominated that league showing he was too advanced for it, and after being drafted was immediately one of the best players in the NCAA. By Florian's age he was one of the NHL's best rookies, winning the Calder Trophy. How are you so bad at these comparisons?
  23. The closest comparable who actually became offensively productive is Milan Lucic. That said, he still reached the NHL by the age that Florian is at now, and his 18 year old year is still slightly better than Florian's 19 year old year (and MUCH better than Florian's 18 year old year). So its really unprecedented to have Florian have the type of development that is suggested here, to the point where I call it dreaming.
  24. Id take Ethan Gauthier and/or Jack Thompson from their prospects if they dont want to move picks.
