  1. Imagine... Markov and Radulov walk MB signs Alzner 5/30 Then a buyout reject for 1/1.5 (Stuart or Squid) And an announcement of 8/US GDP for Carey Price MB then comes out and says, "expect the stupid" in a joint presser with Jim Benning.
  2. Here's a good question: how many unsigned players circle back to their original teams in free agency?
  3. But right now, is there any difference between Joke and DD in his prime? I just don't like the guy. I remember when I was in high school in Boston, there was a lot of (deserved) hype around Jumbo Joke. Saki Koivu ate him up in that series and he got traded the next year. Talk radio and the Boston media fed his ass to him the entire summer because he refused to talk to media after they lost. Joke is going to be like Marcel Dionne, another powder puff that never won a thing and is only remembered by locals and hardcore hockey fans.
  4. I'm starting to get concerned about Markov, Galchenyuk, and Radulov. Zero signings. Is MB angling for a big fish? Or will he cut bait?
  5. But it's LA. Where would you want to live? Montreal, or La La Land? Keep in mind he has a wife.
  6. BHB on Jumbo Joke going to MTL: "It's inconceivable." Too bad. I'm really enjoying the moniker "Jumbo Joke."
  7. I can't see Jumbo Joke signing in Montreal. No offense to Quebecers, they certainly have a better hometown than Boca Raton, but San Jose is an incredible place to live. Doug Wilson made comments towards Marleau and Jumbo Joke to the effect of "we need players who want to do more than just live here." He's also had problems with the media in Boston, and I'm sure he doesn't want to end his career in a hotbed of scrutiny and expectations. He's going to a big name market, like most overrated free agents. Top-3 Jumbo Joke Destinations 1. LA 2. Toronto (my guess) 3. NYC With Chicago as a dark horse. As Habs fans, we get Europeans and journeymen out of free agency. We can't compete with the US juggernauts.
  8. That's going to be a great day for Le Antichambre. They can just hire all those guys on the spot and fire the last crop of loser Habs coaches. What's really costly about the development issues is all of a sudden you have to trade for David Schemko and 380 year old Andre Markov has the team over a barrell-without an agent! How the hell does this happen to a team that drafts four dmen in the first round out of 6 drafts! I have noticed that Bergevin has dropped his excuse about building through the draft. Now he's down to one excuse, which is that his job is hard, lol.
  9. I don't like the term...for one year, sure. We are the retirement home for middling journeymen.
  10. He was another Pateryn however, with the mouthy girlfriend on Twitter. That didn't sit well, even though I thought it was bogus he was first cut from camp. The development issues also stem from Bergevin being the last exit for 48 miles on the highway. How many players called Montreal home for the last time? Douglas Murray, Frankie Boo, Briere was effectively done, Manny Malhotra. Mike Weaver, he signed Travis Moen's last deal, George Parros. I'm not done! Jeff Halpern, Colby Armstrong. Hold the phone! Stay with me now. Sergei Gonchar, Bryan Allen. Tom Gilbert has played 18 games in the NHL since the Habs. Tomas Fleischmann, Mike Brown, John frigging Scott and Victor Bartley didn't play this year. Not finished. Alex Semin. Steve Ott just retired. Does anybody see Torrey Mitchell getting another deal? How about David Schlemko. As you can see...development issues are also created when a GM plugs the bottom of his roster with the last squeeze of the towel from middling journeymen. Most of of these guys are hardly hasbeens. Plenty of players, and Brad Marchand is the best example, spend time on the lower lines learning to play in the NHL. They've been too conservative and asked too much of their young players to make the league, imo.
  11. I hope so. I was jazzed when the Panthers traded him. He's like Emelin without the hits.
  12. I think he's misused and he had a bad deal. I also think that he's become a fancy-stats whipping boy.
  13. He's already drooling over Ryan Reaves, and he's only been on a Cup winner five days.
  14. Let's see how I can sharpen the pencil... 21 million Markov doesn't resign, and is replaced by Girardi for 3.5 million a year/3 years. Still useful as a number 4 with Petry. Galchenyuk/Gallagher dealt for Hanifin. Bonino signed for 4.5 million per/4 years. Radim Vrbata signed at 5 million for 2 years. Radulov gets Vanek's deal. 7/4 years. Pacioretty-Drouin-Radulov Lehkonen-Bonino-Vrbata Byron-Danault-Shaw Big Mac-Plekanec-Martinsen Hanifin-Weber Girardi-Petry Jerabek-Benn Price
  15. I still think Plus/Minus is useful at the poles. Patrice Bergeron at +40, Dmitry Kulikov being forced to change his jersey to -2. But on a team like the Capitals with an 84 goal differential, Alzner's +23 shows what an unobjective stat this can be.
  16. I hadn't heard of Mordecai Richler...Atwood, Mavis Gallant, and Alice Monroe are all people talk about in Canadian literature. I've been heavy handed with the comments lately, but it's coming from a huge sense of disappointment with the team over the past few years. Conference finals, beat by Tampa-understandable, Price hurt, PK traded, first round exit and it seems that the window has closed on our collective fingers. Maybe I was being a homer, but in 2014-2015, I thought this team was on its way to winning a Stanley Cup.
  17. I just call it like I see it. I had good things to say about the Drouin trade. If you expect me to drool about Karl Alzner or Jumbo Joke or slobber all over Marc Bergevin, ignore might be the best route.
  18. They gotta pay somebody, right? Markov wants too much money, Radulov wants too much term, what can you do?
  19. Yak...Jumbo Joke. Alzner. Does anybody remember the days when this league had real free agents to look forward to?
  20. Yakupov is horrible. His best year was something like 17 goals in the lockout year, which was five years ago. Francis Bouillon and Michael Ryder were regulars with the Habs when Yak was last effective. The fact of the matter is that he can't play on a top line because his play away from the puck is among the worst in the NHL. I saw him play down here with Edmonton, and he waits at the blue line for the puck like a degenerate at a bus stop. He's the biggest bust of the decade.
  21. I'll pass on Jumbo Joke. He's old and he's never won a thing. Plus, he's a Bruin.
  22. There were more American kids picked out of high school than the QMJHL. That league has been lagging behind, seemingly since Crosby got drafted. Complete BS about effort level. There are only a handful of players like Kovalev that can play in the league while not going full bore. And if they can't find an extra level without a dose of Quebec nationalism, the Habs don't want them anyways.
  23. Markov in 2017 is Roman Hamrlik in 2011 all over again. I hope the team makes the right decision this time.
