  1. Yeah, lets get a goalie with a 902 sv % and use him to replace Price.... Great idea, not.

this true if he was our goalie we would end up in 28th next year. Price is a good goalie but you should get over your man crush and take off the blinder and see there is other goalie out there. Washington is by far not a d first team he is a good goalie

Ridiculous. I know you really don't like Price... but we can go after a star forward with Gomer's cap space. Don't need to trade our star player.. for one who is washing up soon.

Nash is washed up? that is ridiculous
  2. People aren't giving Diaz credit, he had a very solid year. Not to mention it was his first in North America. Campoli will be gone and Weber will likely go as well. Keep Diaz he has earned another crack at the line up.

Diaz is a good d but when our line up is soft and small on the back end he doesn't fix our problem. If we needed a puck mover he would be just fine but with markov pk kaberle and him being under 6 ft and not a great hitter that is what i was getting at.
  3. I saw the same games you must of and you seem typical of most Hab fans, who think he is no good, but i liked his play and he just never got a regular shift as he does now in Colorado. Martin had his favorites and young players were not among them. Which is why Martin begged for Campoli, Sopel, Mara to be signed.

i was very disappointed to see OByrne traded from Habs, but he wasnt getting a fair shake by Pearn and Martin (who i was very very happy to see both fired, just might of picked a better time maybe).

i know OByrne isnt a big fighter, who cares, he still is very strong in front of net and along boards and i had no illusions of him being a Chara.

Also, Colorado, was 11th in goals against this year.

But hey, i really like the Kaberle and Bourque signings, which most see as terrible also.

Don i agree with you. when he made a mistake he was nailed to bench and not allowed learn from his mistakes and had to play in fear of being benched. He skates well hits and has size which we need at this time. Maybe he would have been no good but who knows Ron hainsey was treated the same and he would be in our six now. This being said was he the second coming of pk now could he play 10 to 15 mins a night for us i say yes. Kaberle with the right partner can really help us. Bourque we hope will turn into the 20 to 30 goal man again.

  4. Price has had two great seasons. In fact Price's stats last year are better then Halak's stats in his last season in Montreal and Price's stats this year are better then Halak's last year.

This year is scewed because Price has no defense and Halak has Hitchcock, remember how bad Halak was to start the season? (Note that Halak isn't even St Louis starter cause Elliot has out played him all season).

Halak has yet to play 60 games. He isn't a proven starter.

Price played more games last year then Schneider has in his career... he is far from proven, good as the games he has played have been... its a huge gamble to trade a top pick, he is on a incredible team, who knows if those numbers would be different without guys like Bieksa and Kestler out there.

.934% and 2.11. Those are Price's playoff stats in last year's 7 games against Boston.

Halak's in his run were... .923% and 2.55 in 18 games.

He is proven. Kaboom your opinion is biased and not constructive.

Next time i will ask you what my opinion is homer. so u r comparing 7 games to 18? Did you send price a fruit basket and a thinking of you card? I made valid points and the backup canuck is pushing for a number one job there and there number one is better then ours!!!

And why are you talking about halak?
  6. I don't think Schneider is the top US goalie for 2014. With Ryan Miller and Jonathan Quick still young, I think he's fighting for a number 3 spot.

As for trading Luongo. I bet Vancouver would be very happy too, however there are very few teams who can take on that contract unless they give up a contract equally as ugly. Thats why I've always thought the Luongo for Vinny trade works.

At this point Schneider may have played in the playoffs, but unless he wins Vancouver the cup this year he will be no more proven than Jaroslav Halak (got back a #13 pick + 3rd rounder) and Varlamov (1st round pick + 2nd round pick, but those picks are in the 10-14 range). He's unlikely to boost that to #1 overall status.

He could be a top goalie, but its a gamble, as much a gamble as Varlamov and Halak. He's at the same level they were when traded.

    <p>

Price is far, far more proven than Schneider. Is Schneider the next Vesa Toskala or John Grahame, great backups who couldn't handle being number 1 goalies? Its as likely as your Yakupov could be Daigle comparison.

All goalies start as as a backup and price has proven nothing yet as well. Price yes is a very good goalie but until we make the playoff year after year price could turn out to be nabokov we don't know yet. schneider is an nhl goalie and is pushing to be a number one. Prospects are just that till they can prove it in the nhl. That being said i am with you on drafting him first.
  7. I think Gillis would laugh at a 9th pick and he would rather trade Luongo because Schneider is a better goalie and after Luongo getting booed off the ice again last night and Schneider getting a big cheer when he came in and then shut the door and won, again, Luongo may not even be #1 come playoffs?

But, i really was just wondering what a Yakupov/#1 pick is valued by most as.

I would say Schneider is due to be the USA goalie of future (14 olympics?), in the same vain as Price may be for Canada and both are likely very even in many ways.

But is a top goalie to build a franchise around, not worth a possible 90-100point forward?

I just thought would be a toss up is all?

Like you said you build from the net out. Would you guy's trade price for Yakupov? I wouldn't we know what we have in price is yakupov the next daigle?
  8. I just see it as a perfect trade for both and thought it might be even?

I just dont know what a Yakupov is worth, he is not a Stamkos, nor Bure and hasnt tore up OHL that much to say he will ever be a 50 goal guy in NHL, maybe but unknown?

I would say Schneider is almost a top 10 goalie in league (a bit unproven, but darn good), Columbus needs a goalie terribly and must be scared to draft another russian.

And Yakupov is only a prospect.

I agree with you don Scheider is a very good goalie not sure were i would place him on a goalie list but he is a 1 one goalie in the making or is now. Columbus does need a goalie so it is very well though out. Ask the canuck fans what they think of him this is his second year of playing well and i bet he will see some playoff time this year.
  9. MONTREAL, QC. — What makes a good NHL player great? Is it his drive, passion and hunger to be the best? Or is it his consistency, and leadership? Filip Forsberg possess all these intangibles that are both rare and highly sought after, and perhaps one day, these qualities will help him to be a great player in the NHL.

12690460_440x326-300x222.jpgDominant is a word you will often hear when conversing about Forsberg. He is being touted as the “next big thing” to come out of Sweden, and with good reason as he has made a name for himself at every level of competition. Forsberg (no relation to former Swedish superstar Peter Forsberg), was born in Ostervala, Sweden, and has been soaring through the draft ranks, currently projected to be chosen in the top five.

Forsberg has been referred to as a power forward, due to his six foot two, one hundred and eighty pound frame. However with the way he plays the game it’s been suggested by few scouts that he plays more of a complete style, and is more of a two-way forward who loves to initiate contact.

IF we end up with him it doesn't sound like it will be a bad thing. Looks like either way you look at it we are getting a very good forward. our biggest need is center first but forsberg will be a great option

  11. Anyway you look at it we are going to get a great forward pick!!! it is to bad we were shit this year but on the bright side we just might end up with a star or superstar player. I think we all are excited about next year with a fresh start and a good chance to right so wrongs that were made this year.

  12. It's amazing how some forget how bad of shape the Habs were in both on and off the ice before Gainey took over. Yes, Gainey made some personnel blunders along the way but I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the day he stepped down a couple years ago Montreal was in much, much better shape than the day he had his introductory press conference. It saddens me to see people forgetting this as they drag him through the mud.

Well he did do some good moves and some bad as well i don't think he sucks as a gm. i wish he was our coach again
  13. The point is that when there is only 1 premier defenceman in free agency, a plan that involves putting all your eggs in one basket to sign him has a very high chance of failure IMO. Sure he might want to play here, but you better have a plan b if he doesnt.

You and i know gm's don't just look at one guy they have a plan a b and c.
  14. They're not comparables, one was a pending UFA the other a pending RFA. If for some reason they go to arbitration, neither side can use the Rinne deal to make their case. Now in long-term talks it could be brought up but I imagine there are some better comparable options out there.

Bang on!!! thomas makes 5 million so does fleury how can he ask for much more then that?
  15. No. 5M isn't going to happen, imo, if he takes that its a discount. But. If we look at the game play of Nashville and look at ours... Rinne has a great d. Ours had had multiple AHL'ers in it at times this season. Our team has had one of the sketchiest bluelines in the league and Price bailed us out. Rinne is great its true, but if you look at the needs of the teams and how other goalies would do in the cities Price is more valuable to us then Rinne is to them. Price put up solid numbers with a swiss cheese defense. Rinne has a stone wall d to help his numbers.

our d is not great but not the worst either. If it was that bad our pk would not be where it is. as far as rinne d men thats hard to prove they make him look good. same can be said for brodeur for yrs he had great d as well so if u took his great d and put ours there would he suck? We could go back and forth forever on this point. you make avalid point
  16. Taxes are cheaper in Tennessee and Price is more important to Montreal than Rinne is to Nashville. All factors that the Habs should sweeten the pot instead of attempting to shortchange him.

I so disagree with saying price is more important to us then rinne is to his team. Goalie for goalie i would take rinne. price is young as well and gives us a chance to win and can handle the pressure.
  17. This is from left field, but does anyone think we could bundle our first round pick and some prospects and get Ovechkin from Washington? If the Caps don't make the playoffs they may consider blowing things up and a change of scenery could revive Ovechkin.

Is this doable? And of so, would you do it?

We've talked about trading for lecavilier for years but I would much rather have Ovechkin than Lecavilier (even when he was in his prime)

    (null)

Depending on what they want maybe. He is awesome and even when he has an off year he still is. When the the guy is hot there is no one that brings what he can. GOALS GOALS AND MORE GOALS!!!! size, speed, he hits hard and never plays scared plus can do it all himself. Not saying he is the best player in the world but at times he can be. we have some great prospects coming and it would be tough to part with some of them. Tinordi,Bournival,Gallagher,Beaulieu,Kristo to name a few. If they wanted a 1st and two top player and or prospects for nash they will want the world for him.
