  1. :can::can::can::can::can::can::can: Whoooo Hooooooooo, Can't wait to see Koivu now, would be awesome if Theo was in net for this one
  2. I defenitely liked that goal Iginla scored too Leafs Suck was thinking of adding it, the through Lemiuex legs fake goal, I just thought that these goals made more of an impact to our hockey culture, really it's either Henderson or Lemiuex, but I was trying to be fair to the others for their accomplishments. If anybody has any other additions, I would defenitely to hear it.....BTW, Lecavalier just scoooooooooooooored :can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can::can: Whoooo Hooooooooooo!!!!! And I am in the same boat with you Macaskill on this one, I was not born yet for Hendersons goal, but Lemiuex will be etched in my mind forever. LOL, Gretzky is jumping like Mike Foligno :lol: [Edited on 2004/9/12 by dinamo]
  3. I agree with you Spiderman, but Quinn likes Luongo. He was on the team as Theo was called up as an injury replacement prior to the start of the tourney. [Edited on 2004/9/11 by dinamo]
  4. I was just wondering what all your thoughts are as which goal is Team Canada's best 1) In the dying moments, Paul Henderson corralled the rebound from a Phil Esposito shot, but his own shot was stopped by Tretiak. With 34 seconds left, Henderson slipped his own rebound past the Soviet netminder. Team Canada had a thrilling 6-5 victory. An entire nation rejoiced! 2) Sittler broke in off the left wing and - following the advice of assistant coach Don Cherry - faked a booming slap shot causing Dzurilla to fall to his knees. Once the star goalie was down, Sittler skated by and popped the puck into the open net. Canada 5, Czechoslovakia 4. Canada won the 1976 Canada Cup. 3) With 1:26 left in the game and the series, Gretzky, Lemieux and Larry Murphy broke in on a three-on-one. Gretzky slipped the perfect pass to Lemieux who snapped the puck past Soviet goaltender Sergei Mylnikov, giving Canada the 1987 Canada Cup championship title. 4) Anson Carter's dramatic overtime goal that gave Canada a 3-2 win over Sweden in the May 11 final of the men's world hockey championship in 2003
  5. Hamilton too, lets not forget Canada Cup '87. "....Gretzky in a two on one with Lemieux, in on goal, he shoots he scooooooores, Mario Lemieux"
  6. I would love for Hamilton to get an NHL team, but if they do, I am sure Toronto will want a team as well :-^ Longest ongoing joke I agree cutting back teams is the way to go. I'd rather see one team in the FLA area.......hell get rid of them both after last playoffs, damn TB. Defenitely get rid of Nashville and Carolina, I am not big on Atlanta, and even get rid of possibly NYI or NJ, BUF, PHO and SJ. I know there is some tradition already established with regard to NYI and NJ, but 3 teams within approximately 100km, and Hamilton can't have a team :?-. NYI, NJ, Carolina do not deserve to have a team, very low attendance, very poor fan support. Buffalo is full of Canadians that drive to the games (I am one of many that make the trip to see the habs) as well as hold season tickets, IMHO i believe its 2/3 Canadian, better to move this side of the border....in Hamilton. I do not mean to disrespect our American fans in here, especially if there are any from these areas, but to get the talent level up the NHL needs to enforce the rules to get rid of " the clutching and grabbing", and dirty play. Ahem....Bertuzzi.....'cough, cough". Just my opinion though. [Edited on 2004/9/10 by dinamo]
  7. The new Croatian coach, Zlatko Kranjcar, is also playing the "attacking style" of the game, 3-5-2 (attack minded midfielders), as opposed to the traditional 4-4-2, or the Euro 2004 Greek team that played a 10-1....."run away, run away ", Mony Python's the Holy Grail. "Midfield mastery It was Kranjcar's team selection and tactics over the course of the two games that really gave Croatia hope. The new coach has finally found the men to fill the big gaps in midfield left by the retirement of Zvonimir Boban, Robert Prosinecki and Aljoša Asanovic." "Boban approval Hungary may have been reduced to ten men within 13 minutes of kick-off in Croatia's first game, but it was still clear that wingers Marko Babic and Srna had given the team an extra dimension. "Croatia played much faster than before, with more battling and creativity," said Boban." as reported in uefa.com. This is so true, we were in such a slump regarding creativity, but were almost always able to qualify for major events. We also have a tall defence, very reliable as well, so the team is comfortable with this new style of play. BTW, I am so glad for Marco Van Basten coaching the national team....was truly one of my favorites, best game I remember was the Euro 88, Marco van Basten's breathtaking volley from a seemingly impossible angle for the Netherlands against the Soviet Union in the final. 8. :guru::guru::guru::clap::/):guru::guru: ok ok ok, unfortunateky I missed 2/3 of the game....I was stuck at work :mad::mad::mad: I showed up at the bar roughly with 15 mins to play Josip Šimunic was the player that was cautioned for his "hollywood play". If you recall, he was picking up the ball after the wistle (obvious time wasting). Jonson did place his hans on the head of Šimunic, who in turn dove grabbing his head in excruciating pain. At first the whole bar screemed because it is a serious offence to place your hands on a players head. After further review in slow motion the bar then yelled out in laughter as it was amusing to see, (obvious play acting). It also appeared to get physical at that point with that altercation ending in a scuffle. The bad blood between these two teams have begun. I was told also that Sweden's goal should have counted as well, Butina miscued the ball under pressure from Ibrahimovic. These things do happen to everybody my friend, it has happened to Croatia numerous times before, so having one go our way feels justified, no offence to you though. By the way, Zlatan Ibrahimovic's mother is of Croatian desent :/). Butina made a great one-handed save to deny Wilhelmsson from an acute angle at the end in injury time. 1:0 to Croatia and 3 poitns taken to stand atop Group 8. I was told that this was an outstanding game to watch, especially to a person that does not watch the game. Still upset that I missed it. October 9th is the next set of matches for the world cup q's.
  9. Sweden is favoured to win the group, it should however be a tight race all the way through, Hungary was also supposed to contend for the second seed, however, after watching the game on Saturday, they did not do anything to impress me at all. They did play the tactics when an oppponent plays Croatia.......play a little dirty, and get in their faces, it always seems to throw the Croats off their game, but it did not work this game interestingly enough. I'll bet Zlatan knows this and out come the elbows eh? Bulgaria and Iceland are also going to be tough. Croatia always seems to leave it at the end to get through in qualifying so matching up against the Swedes in the second last game of qualifying will be tough enough, even at home.
  10. to quote the great Jerry Seinfeld..."that's a shame" :nono: :nono:
  11. After the initial onlaught of games from the European World Cup Qualifiers, the biggest surprise by far is the 2:2 draw between the English and the Austrians, a pleasent surprise indeed :/). The next scheduled games feature the Dutch against the Czechs, a classic rematch from the '04 Euro competition, one of the best games of the tourney. The English face Poland and these two always seem to entertain each other in qualifying competion. Croatia, face the Swedes who destroyed Malta 7:0, should be interesting. The Croatian U-21 team beat Sweden U-21, 2:0 today . I can't wait to watch this one tomorrow. Canada, was robbed on Saturday, if anybody watched that game, all you can say is that the referee blew the game, that pretty much takes away any chance they had to qualify. They defenitely need to win every game in Central America, by a convincing margin which is no easy task.....unfortunately, no chance.
  12. If a jail term is handed to him could that be the end of his career, surely there is no hockey league for prisoners in the Hamilton-Wentworth region, or anywhere for that matter. Doe's anybody know the loop holes in our leagal system? [Edited on 2004/8/31 by dinamo]
  13. Anybody going to the game tonight?
  14. No surprise here.....it is bound to happen from time to time. Hooligansim is pretty common in Europe. I've been to a couple of games and fighting with the opposing fans is nothing new. Apparantly, the incident involving the dinamo Zagreb player and the BBB (Bad Blue Boys, dinamo Zagreb's fanatical club), was in front of the Sheraton hotel, apparantly a fan jumped a player on the team after they returned from the game and headlocked the player screaming something like "aren't you ashamed of being here". Another incident soon followed with fans throwing stones at a couple of players in a car stopped at the traffic light by the stadium, shattered the glass and cut up another players arm, from what i've been told. This is a reality when 'fanatics' expect more from the team, especially after a miserable start to the season, 1 win, 4 ties, and 1 loss, 11 pts from the top of the table. In North America, I think only the Monreal Canadiens fans are capable of doing this, this is a passion for the team to do better, and play better, play with passion, the way the game is meant to be played, If they don't play good the players know about it, being jeered constantly, poor attendance, media scrutiny , etc. That is why there is a buzz for all Canadiens fans this comming year as we look to do better in the standings as well as be in contention for the Stanley Cup.
