  3. My Hockey Sweater (it's personalized & #1, with a C, after I won a bet with a cousin who is a leaf fan the deal was who would finish better back in the 90's, well, we end up winning the cup that yaer....whooo hooo). I have the Hockey Sweater film (based on the childrens book by Roch Carrier) taped onto a VHS cassette for 16 years now. I've got another cousin that has a signed Richard #9 jersey, and refuses to sell it to me though. This past season I purchased a huge Canadiens flag, when we were down 3-1 vs. Boston in the playoffs, I attatched it to my car on a tall flag pole and terrorized the streets of Oakville, ON the rest of the playoff campaign.....my wife refused to ride in the car with me unless I take down the flag, I said "no can do", and we came back to beat the bruins. 4. ROFLMAO !!!!!! Gretzky would loose his scoring record in a week. This is insane but I would love to see it, theys should do this for XBOX or playstation. You've got something here Aussie.
  5. Great song, zep rocks! I've got...POETS about to end................................................now...SOMETHING ON, The Tragically Hip. [Edited on 2004/8/15 by dinamo]
  6. I've read that Kovalev was/ is in Montreal this week-end, I was just wondering if anybody has heard any news regarding the situation. Vive les Canadiens !!!
  7. Als are looking ever so dangerous at the moment.
  8. Bret Hull A generous 7 Age has caught up to him. Way too one dimensional, have seen him play several times up close (at Joe Louis x 2 as a Red Wing, at Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens x 2 as member of the Blues). When his team was in their own zone on the defensive his skates were planted in the neutral zone waiting for an outlet pass. I gave him a seven only because he can decide a game at the end with his shot. Peter Forsberg ?
  9. For those of you fortunate enough to have the NHL network, game 7 against the Boston Bruins '04 playoffs will be on tonight (July 11) at 8:00 pm EST. If any of you know any Boston fans, let them know that it's on as well Time to relive that great moment once again!!! :ghg:
  10. sorry I couldn't get the link to work.... Famed actor Brando dead at 80 Actor credited with revolutionizing profession dies in hospital in Los Angeles ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES - Marlon Brando, who revolutionized American acting with his Method performances in A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront and went on to create the iconic characterization of Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather, has died. He was 80. Brando died at an undisclosed Los Angeles hospital yesterday, lawyer David J. Seeley said today. The cause of death was being withheld, Seeley said, noting the actor "was a very private man." Brando, whose unpredictable behaviour made him equally fascinating off the screen, was acclaimed the greatest actor of his generation, a two-time winner of the Academy Award who influenced some of the best actors of the generation that followed, among them Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Jack Nicholson. He was the unforgettable embodiment of the brutish Stanley Kowalski of A Streetcar Named Desire, the mixed up Terry Malloy of On the Waterfront (which won him his first Oscar) and the wily Corleone of The Godfather. But his private life may best be defined by a line from The Wild One, in which Brando, playing a motorcycle gang leader, is asked what he's rebelling against. "Whattaya got?" was his famous reply. His image was a studio's nightmare. Millions of words were written about his weight, his many romances and three marriages, his tireless - and, for some, tiresome - support of the American Indian and other causes, his battles with film producers and directors, his refuge on a Tahitian isle. His most famous act of rebellion was his refusal in 1973 to accept the best actor Oscar for The Godfather. Instead, he sent a woman who called herself Sasheen Littlefeather to read a diatribe about Hollywood's treatment of Native Americans. It was roundly booed. Brando's private life turned tragic years later with his son's conviction for killing the boyfriend of his half sister, Cheyenne Brando, in 1990. Five years later, Cheyenne committed suicide, still depressed over the killing. Still, the undying spotlight never made him conform. "I am myself," he once declared, "and if I have to hit my head against a brick wall to remain true to myself, I will do it." [Edited on 2004/7/2 by dinamo]
  11. and to you too Spidey. I had my neighbours kid yesterday run up and down the street wearing a spiderman costume all day long. My wife and I had a nice laugh about it as the mother was desperately chasing him to take the mask off after a few hours.
  12. Oskee Wee Weee Al's should still win the cup though.

What a tourney I am still pissed at the performance of the Croatians. Glad to see Van Nistelrooy get suspended for two international matches.....what a suck!!! He alone is the downfall of the Dutch, they should never have brought him into the team. Stunned by the Greeks, should make for a fun final. I've got a few Portugese neighbours and as many Greeks live on the same street, already yapping at each other last night during the Canada Day fireworks. Milan Baros looks like he will win the Golden boot with five goals. Maniche, Rui Costa and Christiano Ronaldo each have two. For more international European football, the 2006 World Cup qualifying games begin on the 18th of August. [Edited on 2004/7/2 by dinamo]
  14. "Sportsnet.ca - Highly coveted forward Ian Laperriere is closing in on a new four-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche, sources have told Sportsnet. Deals involving Chris Simon and Matthew Barnaby were also finalized Friday, Sportsnet has learned. The Laperriere is believed to be worth in the $5 million range. Often compared to other role-playing forwards like Matthew Barnaby, who agreed to a three-year, $1.8 million deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, and Chris Simon, who re-upped with the same team he helped lead to the Cup finals, Laperriere will join his fourth NHL team (St. Louis, New York, Los Angeles). The native of Montreal, Quebec missed a portion of the 2004 season due to a concussion, but still managed to post 10 goals and 12 assists in 62 games." as reported from sportsnet.ca

I too live, eat, sleep and breathe for footbal (soccer). As well as my wife and the Montreal Canadiens :ghg: . It has been an interesting outcome after the opening round matches thus far. Croatia continues to dissappoint as they still play to the ability of their opponents. I expect a loss to France and they had better win against England or else :wall: . Sweden by far is the most impressive especially the triumphant return of Larsson, what an incredible goal. Zidane is the player we all expected him to be, simply amazing. Portugal could be in some trouble as well as Italy (already blaming the sock and the shoes, http://www.tsn.ca/tsn/news_story.asp?id=87712 ), however I expect Italy to just manage to go through somehow. Should be interesting in what transpires for the final matches, there will defenitely be some desperate matches in the end for teams to go through to the quarters.

My Heart screams Croatia, beacuse, well, I am Croatian. It is because of that that I chose the Canadiens as my hockey team, since I was 5, and well they are simply the greatest hockey team in the world. Germany always seem to do well in major tournaments, they are like a machine, lacking superstar talent, but able to do damage (world cup '02). Spain always seem to fall apart in the big events. I agree that France is the team to beat, but you never know who is going to show up and prove otherwise. I like the Dutch chances, if only they can play as a team. As for England.....they are like the N.Y. Rangers, all the talent you could want, but unable to put it into the five hole We've got a very large pool going on over here, this side of the pond, with alot of $$ involved.
  18. Martin St. Louis has just captured the Lester B. Pearson Award, as voted on by his peers in the NHL Players' Association. He had beat out Roberto Luongo and my favorite, Joe Sakic. [Edited on 2004/6/10 by dinamo]

I was wondering how many of you follow european football, (soccer), and if there are any predictions for the upcomming tourney. My gut says Germany, but my heart yells Croatia.
  20. You all do amazing work, keep up the awesome job!!!
  21. If any of you recall, when Columbia lost to the U.S. the World Cup in '94, Andrea Escobar was gunned down in the middle of his home town, in front of hundreds of people, after accidentally kicking the ball into his own goal, eliminating Columbia from the tourney. The great Pele himself had predicted Columbia to win the tournament that year prior to the start of competition. Death threats should always be taken seriously, considering that many fans are 'fanatical' in this day and age. [Edited on 2004/5/26 by dinamo]
  22. Geez, I've really stirred the hornets nest now eh? As a fan, I apreciate how tough it is to get your # in the rafters, I don't want to see every Tom, Dick and Harry up there. Listen, I was just trying to give a suggestion about how they should handle retiring #'s in the future for many more players.....yes 'les glorieux' is the greatest franchise in all sports, and as a result, have many many excellent players, however IMO I really feel that those that served the club with longevity should be rewarded with that honour, especially in this day and age. Had Gretzky played 1 game for the red white and blue, does that warrant him to have his jersy raised.....I hope it would not, it loses its appeal and its meaning.... the distinct honor of serving the Canadiens and its fans. Exceptions are made here and there, sure, but to what extent? when does it end? C'mon, we are fans of the greatest team, the players that honour its rich history and tradition and excelled in their time deserve that distinction of the # being raised. BTW, I was huge on Roy since '86, was in tears that fabled night in the Forum against the Wings......Trembley of course is an idiot, but shit happens. Could Roy been more profesional? sure, but I feel for St. Pat too, don't get me wrong. My point was to say his words "I will never play for this team again" hurt, and still burns because of the downfall of the frachise, I just wonder if he regrets leaving, I am sure he could have gotton Rejean Fool and Trembley fired via the media. Of course I would like to see his # retired, but I want him to want to go into the hall as a Canadien.
  23. I agree that retiring too many #'s loses its apeal. You will all probably disagree with this, however, if they do retire a #, the player should play his entire career with :hlogo: , Lafluer of course being the exception. I would only retire Roy's jersey if he decided to enter the hall of fame as the a Canadien, not the slowflakes from Colorado. It's a shame the way things ended, hell I even cried when he said that he never wanted to play for us again. To have your # retired is a special meaning to the fans to remind us of who they were, and what they did for the club, and leave us with a lasting impression.
  24. Thanks sakiqc, I've been following you all for a while now, this is a great website. I am thrilled to be a part of it. I was just trying out the sigs/ avatar for my profile at the same time, I didn't know how else to post it except to say hi to everybody as well.
  25. I was just wondering what you all felt about the upcoming CBA expiring come September, and if any of you think that the season will start come fall. How about some of the proposed rule changes? One I would love to see make its way back into the rule book is a full duration penalty (sit your ass in the box for the whole time that you are penilized). It would make way for some exciting hockey, and even clean up the game a bit. It defenitely limits the use of goons on your team.....any thoughts?
