Are We Not Trying To Make The Play-offs?
Habitforming replied to kw11habs's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Where was this said Tony? I can't find anything on it anywhere. -
That might be the most defining truth I have read in this thread. Ask Roy, without the fans backing you.....it is impossible to stay and improve [especially the harsh fans in Montreal]
-
Interesting notion. Especially with a forum id like yours.

I dated my teacher for a few months ....does that count?

Not my turn but oh well. This is kinda hard to believe but; Who is the only player in NHL history to lead 3 different teams in scoring in 3 consecutive seasons?

I think the loser of this game will be facing some personnel changes. Both teams need it anyway. -
Question About Old Habs Priority On Quebec Players
Habitforming replied to StephanePare's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
It isn't incomplete really its just that no one cared about it enough to change it at the time. Once the Habs were getting players like the Richards, Beliveau etc the rest of the teams all wanted a shot at them [no duh huh?] It's kind of like income tax. It was initially started to "aide in rebuilding after the war" and it "will only last for one year". Both are kinda sneeky though. -
Andrew Cassels has been placed on waivers by the washington Capitals. He could be a good pick up for us for a few reasons. He might actually solve our 2nd line issues; He isn't big at 5'11" 190ish but his effort is there and he is more of a playmaker. This would also free up Ribs to be traded for almost anything without losing any real scoring from the teamwhile only increasing the payroll by $300,000 or so. [Cassels makes $1.5M this season but more then half has been paid already] Any thoughts?

Ribeiro or Zednik for Spacek? Did you hit your head today? Spacek is worth a Garth Murray or Downey type player...that's it. He is not a top 4 Dman on any team {St.Louis notwithstanding} and Edmonton paid fair market value for such a player. Thank god Gainey is in charge and not some half-cocked fans that would trade just for that sake of trading.

Any Questions For Sergei Kostitsyn Or Matt D'agostini?
Habitforming replied to Habitforming's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I'll stop looking for extra questions at about 6pm est today, so if you have been waiting for the last minute to ask one....this is it. I'm glad the game is on Sportsnet at 7pm, both players should give their all. -
I think Montreal's past selections and current depth chart all but dictate their next draft pick of the best available defenseman at the habs draft position.

Any Questions For Sergei Kostitsyn Or Matt D'agostini?
Habitforming replied to Habitforming's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
No worries CoRvInA I did the same kinda thing with Corey Locke 2 years ago and my freinds were telling me to ask him certain things to satisfy their own curiosity, so I figured maybe some here would have some questions they wanted to know the answers to. I'll ask anything you want to know [minus the hotdog and moon questions ] as long as it isn't redundant or that I don't run out of time. Let 'em fly -
I will be interviewing Sergei Kostitsyn this weekend and as luck would have it Matt D'Agostini agreed as well, so I thought I would ask if anyone had any questions they wanted to ask either of the two habs draft picks. Naturally I will be asking the standard questions, but post any questions you want the answer to in this thread and I'll ask anything that isn't duplicated.

Montreal Vs. Phoenix Noticing The Small Things
Habitforming replied to nam's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
We looked pretty good but Phoenix comming out flat made us look better. -
I don't want to sound like a kill joy or anything so go easy on me; but I told him close to the same thing in 03/04 rookie camp in Pierrefonds [not as long but roughly the same] and he was quick to deflect anything nice said about it to Bob Gainey, Claude Julien, Trevor Timmins and Andre Savard who were all standing near by. "It has nothing to do with me, its all these guys." I don't mean to imply that this will go unappreciated by Mr. Gillet because it isn't his style, I would sign this letter as well. Just don't expect him to accept any credit for himself, he doesn't seem to think he has anything to do with the success of the team. His job as he puts it is "to continue the tradition and history of the franchise" which is one and the same.

Thats the first clip I have seen where Tucker was useful. -
Sergei/Siarhei Kostitsyn OHL rookie of the month
Habitforming replied to Peter Puck's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I'm guessing you mean Mikko Koivu here, but why stop there. Calgary drafted Dan Ryder, and Latendresse has a brother thats playing well in the QMJHL as well. That would be something, 8 brothers on 4 lines. Would you ever feel out of place being a winger on those lines. -
I was told this a few hours ago and I'm trying to find out how true it is. Like everyone I don't believe anything until I have proof so if/when I do have proof I will post the source and details etc. So until then call it an outlandish rumor, pipedream or whatever you want. "Rumor" has it that Ribiero and Plekanec [possibly a low pick as well] would be going to Florida for Jokinen. Has anyone else heard anything yet?

I'd like to see New York without Jagr!!!!
Habitforming replied to thehabbit's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
There are stars then there are superstars. While many would argue that Kovalev is not a superstar anymore per se, he still has that status that follows him in the minds of opposing NHL'ers. Watch a power play from the Kovalev-less habs and you will notice that the penalty killers are aggressive and always in the face of Canadiens players. Then watch the PP unit when Kovalev is on the ice; the defence backs up and gives him space on the half-boards or crossing the blueline. It all comes down to respect and a fear of looking foolish. Respect for a talent that can make you look bad when over playing on a player; and its a respect that only superstars seem to get. No one wants to look foolish or cost the team on a bad gamble. This is as huge to Montreal as it would be to any NHL team. The teams record is fine for such injuries, but I can hardly wait for the entire team to be ready to play. [Edited on 2005/12/6 by Habitforming] -
Not to split hairs or anything but appearantly the NHL officiating supervisor in attendance said that the goal was counted for two reasons. A) the net did not loose contact with the pegs at anytime [in fact it came back down in the correct position proving this B) Because the net was jostled by the defending player without contact from the offensive team. He said there is a rule about a goal counting if the net is dislodged as long as the net is still in contact or on its pegs. Now, I haven't been abitious enough to look it up, but it is in the past anyway ala Saturday's leaf ripoff, and I don't think they would change it after the fact.

Well said PMAC. I'd like to add Richer and Claude Lemieux to that "liked after the habs" list of players. :/)
