  1. My guess is this - and I have ZERO evidence other than a hunch. my guess is that Shanahan (or higher powers) wanted to change head coaches and Dubas didn’t agree. im thrilled if the Maples are in disarray. As much as I believe Keefe didn’t make the necessary adjustments, I believe he will have learned from the past and be a better coach in the future. I don’t think he is so bad that he needs to go. Id have given Dubas/Keefe one more year. im glad they aren’t getting that chance.
  2. I want whoever comes out of the west to win the Cup. but, imagine if Florida dispatches of Boston, Toronto AND Carolina … it’s like they are picking off all of our rivals! id think in the west, that Colorado is who I think I have the most deep seated dislike for - because of their Nordiques roots and that Roy won for them. Pity they weren’t in the finals so the Panthers could beat them in the end! if I could have my way tho as things stand now, I’d want the Canes to beat Florida just for the slightly better draft pick - but NO WAY I want KK to win a cup. Id rather Florida win this round than KK win a cup. in the west, I’m rooting for Dallas now. I think Vegas and Seattle are too new to the NHL.
  3. Of course I don’t like that the draft pic isn’t 17 any more … but that pain will last only for the next month - as long as HuGo do a good job on draft day. the pain of hearing about the Maples and their glorious run of 2023 would have been FOREVER!! the best of 2 icky results happened tonight. now - I guess I need to cheer for the Canes 🤮 for the Eastern Conference Finals.
  4. One sobering thought for me regarding the Florida pick going from 17 to 29ish … when the Habs traded Chiarot for a 2023 Fla 1st rounder, the Panthers were on their way to winning the Presidents trophy. Management ANTICIPATED the pick would be a late 1st rounder. It’s not like the Habs lost real value here - the Habs are getting what they traded for. we were just giddy at the prospect of fleecing another NHL club. That’s all the Habs have really lost. Go Panthers! Beat those Maples!!!
  5. If I could write the future given this present reality, I’d want the Maples to beat the Panthers so the Habs get the 17th OA pick, but then have the Maples lose 4 straight in the Conference Finals. No way I want the Maples getting a sniff at the Cup. That said - as much as dropping from 17th to 29th ish would suck, that pain is fleeting and I’m going to trust the Habs management team. The Maples in the finals or - god forbid, winning the Cup is forever, not fleeting. I’ll choose the inferior pick and trust management over the squawking of Toronto fans forever any day.
  6. I don’t agree with your assessment of the hockey market in Columbus. Columbus has embraced hockey. True, the Blue Jackets will always take a backseat to the Buckeyes, but there is no MLB, NBA or NFL there. (There is MLS). The fans have supported the team inspite of not having much to show for it in terms of post season success. Go around the city - and you see logos and business support.
  7. Imagine if trade deadline day was in his head and now that the deadline is over, he goes on a tear and is a ppg player the rest of the way! I half want that to happen just to witness CC’s reaction when Drouin gets resigned!
  8. I remember loving Howie Meeker’s Showdown. Unless I’m just being nostalgic, I would prefer that model for the skills competition.
  9. Oh - I should be on topic … I wondered if the timing of the Caufield injury announcement could even be linked to all-star voting.
  10. I found Habsworld when I was searching for news the year Kovalev signed. yep - it’s been a while! (and living near Chicago, I’m in need of good Habs chat … I’m so thankful for the regular posters here!)
  11. Sorry if this has been asked and answered already - but is there a way to watch WJC in the states?
  12. Best national anthems I’ve heard in person in AGES … like … reminded me of Doucet! after that - the crowd is *yawn* I had been neutral about Dadonov - I’m now thinking he should be a charter member of team tank. Did not like him except for the one pass to spring Suzuki - yet even that was after a defensive gaff of his. Guhle was impressive! Other than the time he lost his footing on the blue line to set up an odd man rush, when a Hab dman did something noticeable, it was Guhle. Overall by eye test - Suz/Cau/Dach were shut down. Tho they were perfect in the shootout. Monahan was the top Hab forward to me. I liked Dvorak today. The 4th line of Evans/Slaf/Pez was regularly overmatched. Matheson has a fantastic burst. Athanasiou was the most noticeable Hawk to me. Goalies were solid but didn’t need to be be any more than that. From my nosebleed seats, the best save was Soderblom on Anderson in the first. Boring game tbh. Good road game I guess. OT was super disappointing with the Hawks playing keep away for 2 minutes then a 2 minute sleeper power play for the Habs. Sat beside one of Caufield’s little league hockey coaches. Got some stories. That was cool. Dach’s OT reaction for the crowd was priceless.
  13. I’m fortunate enough to be in attendance for this one! Go Habs Go!
  14. I didn’t mind the jersey at the unveiling. But now I’ve watched a game with it in action. no. it just feels wrong to cheer for the blue hockey team - even if that blue is expos blue. I need some red either on the shoulders or back.
  15. 27-44-7-4 = 65 points 8th in Atlantic 28th in NHL 45 Goals
  16. I love hockey with no commercial breaks. That is all
  17. I used to think he was a good negotiator, but when you see what he left - with Gally, Price, Hoffman, Petry, even Drouin, Savard - I’m not sure he doesn’t crack .500 (because he certainly did well on some other contracts)
  18. Clearly DD was in a tough spot - following a SC final appearance - loss of Price, Weber, Danault and many others then, - new management team - loss of player confidence but - I don’t think he doesn’t himself any favours when he shares what he did in that article. Foolish for him to think we all know HE could have gone to Gorts. Sure Gorts should have taken initiative (and who knows that he didn’t!), but DD can’t be cryin’ ‘I didn’t know what to do!’ When it was on HIM to either right the ship or find out his new mandate. I’ve lost a little more or the little respect I had for DD. (Tho I love the candor he gave us in the article! But I love it from a drama perspective, not a respect perspective)
  19. I actually think that Perry knew last year how terrible DD was IN SPITE of the SC run. The moment DD had a contract for 22-23 and beyond, Perry was not going to be a part of the Habs.
  20. I’m banking on the Habs taking Wright. I was in Kingston last week (I live near Chicago) and bought a Wright Frontenac’s jersey for my son who was born in Kingston and loves the Habs like me.
  21. I’m happy HuGort get to pick their player in the first round, but I was good with either of the presumptive first picks (Wright/Cooley). i actually wonder if holding first picks in ALL rounds may ultimately be even bigger in consequence.
  22. When I mention PIMs in relation to the captancy, I’m not meaning the total number. I’m meaning the quality of the penalty. im happy for my captain to get a 5 and 10 for defending a teammate. I’m not fine with my captain getting an undisciplined penalty. Gally just looses his cool too often and yaps too much for me to be the captain. I love Gally on my team (well - the 20+ goals per season Gally), just not as captain. Maybe I didn’t watch enough games - but guys like Weber or Eddy don’t/didn’t take brainfart or emotional out of control penalties. Neither does Suzuki. Id just give Suzuki more time and make Eddy the captain given last years performance and who is under contract for next year.
  23. I never think the captain should be someone who gets a lot of penalties - I want them to be self-disciplined, lady byng type. Anderson gets too many penalties for me. And that’s where Gally fits too imo. They might be great with the A, but not the C. Id love to toss in a new name, like a Dvorak, but who knows how he fits in future plans. Or a Petry who, who knows if really he took the hit for many Habs players and was their voice. Many want him gone for seemingly quitting on the team, but maybe he was holding things together and was a voice and THAT is what hurt his play. really, I like Edmundson. Gives Suzuki more time (or someone else). Eddy is a vet. Won a cup. Seems steady. Seems respected. Bleeds bleu blanc rouge since childhood.
  24. I don’t know that I have a bad attitude about Weber. I loved him as a Hab and didn’t mind losing PK to get him (Tho I wish we could have had both!). he was AMAZING last playoff and was a guy I’d have proudly worn his jersey. I just think his vanishing from last year final until last night showed the opposite of leadership and it tainted my view of him a bit. i think overall I agree with CC and others. here’s what I would have liked: He IS still the captain of the Habs for the 2021-21 season I would have expected him to appear at opening night. I would have expected at least ONE appearance mid-season, maybe at a spot where the season was lost and he could encourage the troops as captain, maybe when Gorton or Hughes or St Louis was hired. Sometime. And then finally at the end of the season as he did. 3 visits in the season from the current Habs captain in what was one of the most, if not THE most difficult season in Habs history. I don’t think that would have been too much to expect.
