  1. I don't see any real downside to the offer sheet for us. Note that it wasn't made until after all the UFAs we wanted were gone. So by now tying up 8 million in cap space for a week doesn't hurt us. We can still sign Gardiner or make a trade taking on some significant cap or a bad contract.

Plus I wonder if Philadelphia might be more likely to trade us one of their Dmen seeing as we've announced we are willing to give offer sheets.

Even if Carolina matches we've pushed up the cost for bunch of other teams to resign their own RFAs.

Maybe offering more would have been better but we already have some people complaining the 3 picks were too much. Also we do need to say some space to try to get a left D.

I interpreted his comments to imply that he would not be going after major UFAs during the waiting period - because he did not challenge the premise when it was suggested that the Canes might match and all the top UFAs would be signed by then.

As happy as I was when I first heard of this, the more I think about it, the likelier it seems that the net result will be MB standing there with his wiener in his hand, as per usual -_-

I dont know what people expect. He went after Duchene. He tried to get Lee. He is trying to get Aho. Should he offer 7x 9.5 for Lee. There are only a few suitable free agents for us. If those guys won't sign here I don't know what MB can do.

    Bingo

Plus PK Subban was third in Norris voting in 2017-18

Its a little pre-mature to say he's not seen at that level anymore.

I'm pretty sure that if say 10 GMs feel he is one of the best 5 Dman in the league that Nashville could have gotten more.  After all everyone is expecting Gardener to sign for 7 million.     Or maybe I am wrong about what Gardener will get.

  4.   I hated the trade when it happened.  The almost universal consensus was that Weber would deteriorate while Subban would continue to blossom.  I don't think either of these things happened and I think the recent trade is being viewed by fans as incontrovertible proof that Subban play has deteriorated.

Of course Nashville's cap situation must be taken into account but I do believe the low return shows that other GMs dont see PK as a Norris level defenceman anymore.  This shows that the early simplistic analyses of the original trade were wrong.  An argument can still be made that Nashville "won" the original trade but that argument has to be a lot more sophisticated now.  For myself, I now feel that this was a good trade for the Habs.  If Nashville ends up with a recapture penalty it could end up really hurting them.

26 of my top 31 were taken in the first round.  I consider Bob McKenzie the master at these rankings.  He hit 26.  I am now 2-1-1 head to head with him in the last 4 years.

Sportsnet was showing quotes during the draft.  They quoted our site for SIX different prospects.

    I'm buzzing.

Well done.  I did see Sportsnet using lastwordonhockey quotes.

I'm also being a bit of a perfectionist here but it says in the rules on page 1 that shootout goals count towards the total.

    Section D

So the Habs would have ended with 249 goals and not 246. Again, doesn't change the outcome...

Whoops, this is correct I thought I had specified to not count SO goals, but in fact they were supposed to count.

Fortunately iyt doesn't change anything and BCHabnut still wins.

  7. Well the Habs did comeback tonight to finish

    44-30-8 for 96 points with 246 goals..

    llWill predicted 95 points.

5th in the Atlantic, 9th in the East and 243 goals.

BcHabnut predicted 97 points, 4th in the Atlantic and 11th in the East with 248.

BcHabnut is the winner by a sliver.  His goal prediction was 1 goal closer!!

  8. Correction:

A quick look shows that its down to

    Dalhabs

    42-30-6-4

    (94 points)

    illWill

    42-29-7-4

    (95 points)

    243 goals.

    BCHabnut

    42-27-6-7

    (97 points)

    248 goals.

Before tonight's game Habs are 43-30-8 for 94 points.    If the Habs come back to win tonight and finish with 96 points it will come down to goals scored.

With tonight's first goal by Poehling the Habs are up to 244 goals 242 goals.   Corrected to remove the "goals" the team was awarded by winning 2 shhotouts before tonight.

Will Dalhabs win two years in a row.  Could illWill become our first two time champion or will BcHabnut add his name to the pantheon of champions?

    Say tuned
