  1. YES!!! Most consecutive games without a goal: Ken Baumgartner 238 games (between 95-96 and 98-99). In 95-96 he was a Leaf. He was traded to the Ducks and after the 97-98 season signed as a free agent with the Bruins. He also achieved the impressive feat of playing 93 straight games (between November of 1991 and April of 1993) without scoring a single point. I am unsure whether this is a record. It's hard to imagine anyone beating it. Over his career he had 14 goals, 43 assists, 747 games giving 0.076 pts/game. On Jan 30, 1986 he was traded from Buffalo with Sean McKenna and Larry Playfair to Los Angeles for Doug Smith and ex-habs defenceman Brian Engblom. Mont Royale's turn to pose a question.
  2. Okay, time for another assist (so to speak). As I said, the guy who is the answer to part 2 played for 5 teams. I already said that Toronto and Boston were 2 of these teams. The others were: Anaheim, the Islanders and the Kings.
  3. This is written by a real optimist.
  4. It looks like the team has turned the corner. The last 2 games plus tonight we have been playing the way we played in November. If we keep this up we'll make the playoffs comfortably.
  5. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had seen shortcat1 lately? I was going to set up a poll for votes on what happened to him but there are too many possibilities. Here are my top 3 guesses: 3. Advanced age leads to dementia which causes switch to leaf nation. 2. Keyboard worn out by 4000+ posts in 6 months. and the most likely reason no one has heard from shortcat1 lately is ... 1. Avitar banned by mods in the current cartoon purge.
  6. Yes Toronto and Boston. Who else could it be? :?-
  7. Well it seems to me, that banning this drug is wrong. The drug does not enhance performance and has a legitimate use. It is only banned because WADA can't come up with a test for steroids that works in the presence of this drug. To me that is WADA's shortcoming not the drug's nor the people using it. Would it remain banned if it turned out to be useful in treating serious deseases?
  8. Nope the answer to part 2 was never a devil. Time for another hint: Although this guy was never a habs, among the 5 teams he played for are the two most hated current habs rivals. In fact the 2 goals that book-ended his streak were scored with these 2 hated teams. Also this guy too was traded at one time in a deal with an ex-habs defenceman going the other way.
  9. He hurt his knee in late January. He is listed as day-to-day. On the WHL official site it is listed as a "laceration". Here's an article that mentions the injury.
  10. YES! KoZed got it. Steve Halko played his career with Carolina on and off between 97-98 and 02-03. He was traded to St. Louis and after they released him resigned by the Hurricanes. He played 159 games and scored 0 goals and 15 assists in his career. That makes 0.094 pts/game Dec 5 2001 St. Louis Blues: Acquired defenseman Steve Halko and a fourth-round selection in the 2002 NHL draft from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Sean Hill. Mike Komisarek before tonight's game has played 117 games with 0 goals and 6 assists yielding 0.051 pts/game. If the Habs make it to the third round of the playoffs Mike has a chance to pass Halko's record this very season. I'm hoping he scores his first before the season ends.
  11. I've got to go play soccer now (the weather is beautiful here in downtown Kingston). I'll be back in a couple of hours. The hints should provide enough info to know if you're guess is right even if they may be too cryptic to give you the answer.
  12. Unfortunately (for Kozed) Daneyko scored a goal in the 2000 playoffs. Otherwise I am pretty sure he would have the record. Actually Daneyko once scored 4 assists in a playoff game (88 Division final against Washington). Langdon isn't really in the same class as these other guys. He's had too many healthy scratches to pile up the big numbers of goaless games. And as M and K says, he broke a streak by scoring for us against the Bruins in the 04 playoffs. He's started a new streak but doesn't get in enough games. Time for some hints. The answer to #2 (longest goaless streak) played for 5 NHL teams between 87 and 99. He was a defenceman. The answer to number #3 (most games at the beginning of a career without a goal) was traded (with a draft pick) to St. Louis once for an ex-habs defenceman who still plays.
  13. Brad Brown had 2 goals in 341 games but he isn't the answer. Gordie Dwyer:108 games 0 goals 5 assists. Not the right answer either. In fact Mike Komisarek (117 games right now) has already got Gordie beat. But Dwyer's 0.046 pts per game is the lowest of any skater I've seen (that played a reasonable number of games).
  14. Okay Norstrom has 13 goals in 770 games (so far). The answer to part 2 is a player with 14 goals in 747 games. He retired a few years ago not long after breaking his goaless streak. The answer to part 3 is a player with 0 goals in his recently completed career.
  15. I don't really know. He scored sometime between his 18th and 43rd career game. He has had a couple of seasons with 0 goals but not consecutively. So i don't know how many consecutive he's gone without scoring. He might be close to the record but he doesn't hold it. Seems like you made a very good guess though.
  16. Yep that's the easy one: Most games without a goal: Patrick Roy 1029 For parts 2 &3 I'll take an answer within 15 games of the actual number.
  17. Okay a three parter. I have been seeing people predict Komisarek's first goal for quite a while in the game threads. So here is a question dedicated to his first goal whenever it comes. The first is easy the other 2 harder. Guess and I'll give some hints. 1. Who holds the record for most games without ever scoring a goal (and how many games)? 2. What is the record for consecutive games by a non-goalie without a goal? 3. What is the record for games played at the beginning of a career by a non-goalie without a goal?
  18. Okay it was either Larry Robinson or Bob Gainey. They both won but I don't remember the order. I'm going to guess it was Gainey for obvious reasons.
  19. Because of posts that have nothing to do with the topic.
  20. You don't have to offer max money. If the RFA comes from a team, like the Senators, with cap problems they can't easily match the offer. Plus it doesn't hurt the offering team if the offer is matched and the player stays with his old club. This is one of the reasons I like the idea of pursuing Spezza. If no other team makes Spezza an offer he might resign with Ottawa for say 4.5 million per year. But if we offer him 6 million per year (and he accepts), either we get him or else Ottawa has to give him 6 million per year and that makes it very very difficult to sign their UFA's. I think Spezza may be worth the 5 picks - after all none of them will be top 5 picks nor even top 10. I am sure that he is worth 6 million per year.
  21. Okay here is an idea. I don't think I really like it but you can tell me (and all of HW) what you think of it. We could offer Spezza 6 million this summer. He will be an RFA . I think if we sign him that would mean that we forfeit our next 5 number 1 picks which probably makes the cost too steep. Still he is just what we need. On the other hand I think Ottawa would still match that offer. Paying Spezza 6 million would force Ottawa to give up either Chara or Redden.
  22. Actually, Plex lost his stick. Rivet used his own stick to flick Plekanec's back to him. A player on the Bruin bench reached over the boards and either caught it or just blocked it from going toward Plex (I couldn't tell which). Then Rivet reached out and took ahold of it and tossed it toward Plex. Definitely a penalty to Rivet for having 2 sticks at once. But there should have been a Bruin bench penalty too.
  23. Gainey as GM has certainly improved the team. They may be struggling now but they are much better than they were before he was hired. More importantly, the current team has a bright future and clearly will be better and better for next couple of years. Before Gainey, no one could make such a statement. As coach he has done something great that a lot of people were screaming for: he has played the rookies and young players. For the past couple of games we've had Ryder, Plex, and Higgins all on the top 2 lines. I am much happier seeing this as these guys need to develop into top line players and anyhow they have been out performing Zednek, Bonk, Ribeiro, and to a lesser extent Bullis for quite a while now. We won't win the cup this year (and without Theo playing well we won't go very far) but there is no need to panic. We may even miss the playoffs this year but that is no reason to trade away our young stars.
