  1. I just got here so I don't know if anyone has commented on this but I had to say something. With about 3 and a half minutes to go in the first after a TV timeout there was a faceoff in the Leaf's end and CBC showed a closeup. The leaf centre, Wilm, reaches across the faceoff dot 3 times in a row while the lineman is trying to drop the puck. Then our centreman, Plex, reaches across once and the linesman immediately throws him out of the faceoff.

Then right off the faceoff the leaf forward, Kilger, clearly ices the puck from a few feet inside the leaf's blueline. All 10 skaters are inside the leaf's zone and the puck crosses the end red line before anyone on either team can reach the Canadien's blueline. Boullion skates back, slows to a stop and touches the puck. The linesmen wave off the icing (at the last instant?) and Boullion gets checked into the boards by Domi still unaware the icing has been waved off.

I can't understand what the hell these linessmen are doing.

As you can probably tell I have watched the replay of this sequence about 10 times in slow motion.

  2. That all seems like some very cocky talk for a team that has never won a darn thing in its history. I know they haven't been around for very long, but they've had a top rated team the past four years and have choked come playoff time each and every time. If I'm coach Murray I would tear my team a new one for those comments. It is just one regular season game. A lot can happen between now and the playoffs. The habs could be the Eighth seed and the Sens will be the No. 1 seed. These laughable comments about the habs will be posted front and centre in the Habs dressing room. The Sens played a near flawless game, but those comments were a major mistake. Anyone who has played a team sport at any level knows not to give an opposing coach that kind of material to build his motivational plan around. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Yes I agree. But I heard Murray interviewed after the game and he was laughing as he explained that on the bench the player were betting they could hold Montreal to under 10 shots. It certainly didn't sound to me like he is very likely to "tear [his] team a new one".

    <---snip--->

    Neither do I. Who's #4?

I thought the idea of this thread was to use our hockey knowledge/guess, not to test our google skills.

I was going to guess Napier.

  4. Gretz doesnt count, bossy and selanne are right, one more missing...he still plays in the NHL...

Hmmm, I was going to guess Peter Stastny but I don't think he's still playing

    . :?-

  5. :P That theory needs to be refined. During the game against Calgary, we had sex but the Habs lost.

Today I'm nowhere near her and the Habs are destroyed. Utterly destroyed.

I'll continue to dabble with this boys. The girlfriend is all for it too. In the end...I win.

Which boys? :o (Just kidding). You might want to choose your words more carefully. Good luck with the experiment.

  6. The problem last night was that we were completely helpless against Vancouver's forecheck. They quickly pressed our defence on shoot-ins as soon as we got the puck and our players responded by rushing "passes" to their partner. These passes were never on the ice and led to the 2nd defenceman struggling to corral the puck with another Canuck forechecker to deal with. If we didn't lose the puck then we repeated the problem by flinging the puck to the winger on the boards who couldn't handle it.

The inevitable turnover led to confusion in our zone and players standing around. Nobody seemed to be able to decide who they should cover and Vancouver forwards were often completely open and able to skate freely.

Having Markov would have helped a lot but our defencemen need to handle the forecheck better. The forwards need to help the defence more. Early in the year we were getting the puck out quickly and punishing forechecking teams with a quick and deadly counter attack.

  7. Short cat I agree 100% I have no idea why Bobby Clarke would do this. The rookies that the flyers have relied on up front, on defence and even between the pipes is what has them in 2nd in the conference. Sure they just lost to Boston but losses happen. As for Nedved he is washed up if he is not going to work for the Great one with no pressure I highly doubt he will be performing a month from now or during the playoffs. But time will tell.

And as for Babchuck, I don't know if he would be a quick fix for the Canadiens but maybe a great future defenseman. He is a former first rounder but I do not believe he is quite NHL ready.

I heard Nedved was unhappy because his girlfriend (a supermodel) lives and works in New York. I think Philly is counting on his game improving now that he is leaving closer to her.

Sort of like Philly's version of Trizzak's theory.

  8. 80 percent of Kovalev, Ryder, and Markov's points come on the PP too. Ribs has definitely struggled this year, but he has been on a sucky line most of the season and he is still in the top 4 for points and PPG. He was also healthy during that horrible 6 weeks when everyone on the team was a minus most nights. Koivu and Kovalev missed most of those games. Koivu is the only plus on the team I think.

I still think ribs can turn his game around and be a decent 2nd center. That said, if we can get Koivu at a price that makes him our number 2 center, ribs is expendable. The problem of course is finding that top center who can average 1.25 PPG and be a game maker.

From what I have seen, the biggest flop this season is Zednik, followed by Bonk. Ribs is fairly cheap and is producing much more then those two. Zednik is really sucking giving he was a first line player most of the season. He needs to be replaced soon and we also need a decent 2nd line LW.

    Here are the stats:

    player PPG PPA | G A | %PPG %PPpoints

    Ribeiro 7-12 | 10-21 | 70% - 61%

    Ryder 10-17 | 19-11 | 53% - 56%

    Markov 3-12 | 7-23 | 43% - 50%

    Kovalev 5-10 | 10-21 | 50% - 48%

    and just for fun

    Koivu 3-10 | 11-23 | 27% - 38%

  9. first things first. If you have a brace on you are NOT allowed to drop the gloves at any time and fight. It doesnt matter if the other guy gets hurt or not its a match penalty automatic review by the league.

This is incorrect. Wearing a brace does not mean an automatic match penalty and it does matter if the other guy gets hurt or not.

    Here is Rule 56 b Note 4:

Any player wearing tape or any other material on his hands (below the wrist) who cuts or injures an opponent during an altercation will receive a match penalty under Rule 43 -- Attempt to or Deliberate Injury of Opponents in addition to any other penalties imposed including penalties for fighting under this rule.

Also I note that the "(below the wrist)" makes me wonder if the ref made the right call. Souray's brace is clearly not below the wrist.

  10. What is your name?

    What is your favorite colour?

What is the air speed of a laden swallow?

Maybe try asking if it's supposed to be spelt "Kostitsyn" or "Kastitsyn." That's something that's always confused me, which one is the right one?

I have been wondering about SK's name. Not only is it an "a" or an "o" in his last name. I presume this is a question of translating his name to English. I wonder about his first name. On the London Knight's web site and in the OHL he is always called Sergei. But everywhere else he is called Siarhei. Is Sergei a nickname?

After the B pool of the world juniors Belarus was moved up to the A pool. I have heard that International Ice Hockey Federation is reconsidering this and may instead hold a 4 team tournament between the 2 winners of the B pool and the 2 last place finishers in the A pool to see which 2 teams will play in the A pool in January 2007. This seems very unfair to me given that they are considering this after the tournaments are over. What does SK think about this?

  11. How many of you were upset with what you saw from the Habs in the 3rd period against Dallas last night? This style of play (playing a prevent defence) is one of the "holdovers" from the Julien era, and one that I hope Gainey gets rid of. Not only did we abandon our offensive game (stupid strategy), but *we completely lost intensity.* We played soft the entire period. Lucky for us that Theodore brought his "A" game to that period or we surely would have lost.

These guys make lots of money. Is it too much to ask that they play a full 60 minutes, instead of just 40? (And hopefully BG realizes that it's good *defensive strategy* to spend at least half the period in the other team's zone, rather than spending most of the period in your own zone.)

    - Jack

I have to disagree. In both games we had defensible leads. There is nothing wrong with paying extra attention to defence when you have a 3 or more goal lead.

If we adopt such a defensive posture for the whole 3rd period when we have a 1 goal lead that will be a problem. We still have to see what happens when the Gainey coached Habs face that situation.

  12. lol

I know that because I left out something like a comma and an "e" it makes the word mean something different, but come on, it is still very easy to understand and it's one little word and I often catch little typos like that in other member's posts but as long as it is easy to read that is okay for this board from what I understand.

This isn't a damn english class, just make your posts understandable.

Yes I know. You are right. I just have a naughty streak and couldn't resist. Mea culpa.

  13. well, i've gotta say one thing.

i'm very pleased to say that the irreverent comments were very few and far between. to be able to make a negative judgement on something/someone without resorting to debasements is a good sign of character.

    congrats guys!

    :king: :hlogo: :king:

Well if this isn't the stupidiest post ever.

    :D

Actually after all the Dagenais bashing I too am surprised that the tone of this thread has not been too bad.

  14. He claims that he is 16 and that is his excuse. LOL

If you are 16 you should be old enough to be able to spell and use proper grammer. I'm 15 buddy and its not that hard.

Anyways, this thread has gone on for a bit to long considering what we are talking about.

Advice : Koivu-11, your probably a good guy just change the way you type and you might get less complaints around here. Your posts are annoying as hell to read.

    I know I shouldn't, but I can't resist. I believe habsfan88 meant to say:

Koivu-11, you're probably a good guy just change the way you type and you might get less complaints around here.

I know, I know this is just naughty of me. No hard feelings. Right? P.S. habsfann 88, you do write quite very compared to many 15-year-olds I know.

  15. Wow I've got 4 5 votes. If elected I will not serve. (But keep those votes poring in. BTH can feel me gaining on him)

I want to point out that the first save shouldn't count because there was no chance to warm up. No one can be expected to come in cold and make a good attempt with his first shot. And the save on the 2nd shot was just Theo getting lucky. He doesn't stop that shot more than 1 in a hundred tries. One more chance would have showed the real talent.

Also, don't think Gainey didn't see video of "Raphael" streaking in and lasering his shots at Theo. I think his waiving of Dagenais shows that Gainey has big plans for the league's new superstar, Raphael. Boy does Bob ever work under the radar. Now all we need to do is clear another 4 to 5 million in cap room and then look out for Peter Puck for Raphael.

  16. I have no idea what you're talking about. The closest thing I know to this is that the subtitle is put with the title once you're inside the thread. In the game threads, when I go from page to page I never have to see the original post - unless, of course, I'm going to page 1.

Thanks BTH. I see the entire first post of the thread at the top of each page whenever I go to a new page. I conclude that there must be a setting somewhere I need to change. I have looked for soemthing in "My controls" but haven't found it yet.

Okay I figured it out. When viewing a thread, Under "Options" there are 3 display modes: Outline, Standard and Linear +. Someone had asked what was the difference between "Standard" and "Linear +". I now know at least one difference. My "problem" is produced by the setting "Linear +". I have now switched to "Standard" and everything is good. :)

  17. I notice that with the new system the first thread of a post is included at the top of each page of the thread. Is there a setting somewhere (in My Controls?) that controls this?

I find this irritating especially if the first post is long. For example, while I love Spiderman-NL's posts at the start of the game threads, they are very long and I would much prefer to not have to read them each time I page forwards or backwards.

Failing a setting to get rid of this, I would propose people make their first post a short one when they create a new thread.

  18. And you think iam not in high school??? iam only 16...

    Hi Koivu-11,

I am willing to give you another chance, given your young age. Lately I have been just ignoring your posts because they are too hard to bother reading. I had even contemplated setting my defaults to automatically ignore your posts.

My point is that if you want people to read your posts and to consider your opinions you should make your posts clear and easy to read. Of course this goes beyond posting and into other realms of life but here we just want to hear your opinion without having to work. If you are not willing to spend some effort being clear, I for one, will just not bother reading what you write. That would be a shame because you have had some good comments in the past.

    sincerely,

    Peter Puck
