  1. As long as the player is junior eligible, he can 'slide' off the limit of 50, however, it would come into play the following year or whenever the player turns pro. That's why the Habs remain stuck with Mayer for another year and Lefebvre for two more years, both were players who signed while still having junior eligibility.
  2. More tidbits: - Tomas Plekanec may suit up for Kladno if there is a lockout, Pacioretty to EV Zug is all but done from the sounds of it (again if there's a lockout). - On the prospect side, Charles Sarault, a potential linemate of Galchenyuk in Sarnia this year, has reportedly accepted an invite to rookie camp...if there is one...which there likely won't be (it would run the 18th through the 21st). That would be the third confirmed invite (the others being Brendan Ranford and Luca Ciampini).
  3. We're assuming a full season for the sake of discussion/comparability. If the season is abbreviated, pro-rate their projections accordingly.
  4. Former NHL'er John Madden has joined the staff as an amateur scout. He'll be working the USHL/NCAA beat, focusing primarily on free agent/non-drafted players.
  5. So after losing on a last second FG to the first place Lions, the Bombers fire their coach. The GM cited a few different reasons, one of which being the lack of offensive production. Of course, they're down to using a 3rd string quarterback but that was conveniently left out when their GM justified the firing. Then they promoted their defensive coordinator to head coach, another move that made little sense (hiring a defensive guy to be the head coach likely won't turn them into an offensive squad). So how did they do in their first game after the firing? Playing against the worst team in the West, the one team in the league with the same record as them, they lost a heartbreaking 52-0 decision. All I can say to that is ouch...and that bad GM'ing seems to be a real problem in Winnipeg.
  6. As most of you have probably seen by now, we've been running our Fantasy profiles throughout August despite the imminent threat of a lockout. For anyone wondering we'll be continuing these for another week or so. Here is what we've compiled so far: Rene Bourque Erik Cole David Desharnais Brian Gionta Josh Gorges Lars Eller Alexei Emelin Tomas Kaberle Andrei Markov Travis Moen Max Pacioretty Tomas Plekanec Carey Price Brandon Prust P.K. Subban Any stat predictions of your own (beyond the zeros across the board if we have another season long work stoppage)? Also, of the players who don't have profiles written yet, do you have any preferences as to who you'd like to see us write about? And of course, if anyone wants to comment on the predictions we've made, feel free to do so here.
  7. If there is indeed a lockout, Max Pacioretty may be suiting up in Switzerland. His representatives have reportedly been in contact with EV Zug, the same team in the NLA that Raphael Diaz played for.
  8. But do you? If the league gets their way and the cap drops to, let's say, $60 million (their last proposal was $58M) this year, the Habs will be demoting/amnestying Gomez and quite possibly another player just to get into compliance, let alone having room to add further to the roster. (This of course assumes there are no direct rollbacks or any other fundamental changes that we haven't pondered yet.)
  9. From what I've heard, Latendresse had an identical offer from Montreal (or at least very close) and chose to go to Ottawa instead.
  10. Time for me to adjust the fantasy prediction on the site for Bourque. Guess we're getting a head start to the injury bug this season.
  11. It appears that the Leafs are getting the exciting part of their season over early...
  12. There doesn't seem to be any mention of it on their site or on the AHL's one. Perhaps it hasn't been released yet as odd as that is considering AHL preseason is about 5-6 weeks away.
  13. This year, assuming it actually gets underway, there are a few players who could exceed expectations and become a key piece for Montreal to add to the core group that currently exists. Lars Eller, Alexei Emelin, and Louis Leblanc are all youngsters that come to mind (players who we hope will be in that core group and could take that next step now) while veterans like Brian Gionta, Tomas Kaberle, Scott Gomez, and Rene Bourque are all looking to bounce back from disappointing years. Who do you think will step up? I'm going to use this as an ATB (Around the Boards) piece on the site sometime this week, I'll add my own prediction at that time if anyone's wondering.
  14. I know the OHL is broadcast cable-only, I've never come across streaming sites for them. I've often listened to the radio broadcasts though, almost every team has one. I can't say for certain whether there is or isn't any sort of online option for the other two. The AHL, however, has a season pass; you'd have to pay like one would for NHL Centre Ice but that is an option as well...no streaming options either for them, there haven't been for a few years.
  15. An interview with Mark Mowers on what his role will be and how he got the job: http://www2.tsn.ca/w...tid=12132&id=17 Timmins on his extension: http://www.cjad.com/Blog/HabsNews/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10417273
  16. Their GM is a complete idiot? That sentence can more or less cover any question regarding Edmonton and their lack of success.
  17. Brian Willsie signs a 1 month tryout with TPS Turko of the SM-liiga.
  18. Looks like it came out on Friday - http://www.habsworld.net/out.php?15446
  19. We still have a few spots open in the pool, join up to try and stop me from repeating as champion.
  20. Both Collberg and Nystrom are on Sweden's roster for a 4-Nations junior tournament later this month. http://hockeysverige.se/article/13406421/juniorkronornas-nya-trupp
  21. The Habs have hired two more scouts; like Ethan Moreau earlier, these two are also former NHL'ers. Donald Audette will be an amateur scout in Quebec while Mark Mowers (278 NHL GP) will be an Eastern Conference pro scout. Better yet, the contract of Trevor Timmins has been extended (term undisclosed). That deserves a . http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2885
  22. Our WWI piece for the contract is now on the site;: http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2884
  23. I have a 25th anniversary edition of Super Mario Bros (1, 2, 3, and the Lost Levels) for the Wii, just started playing it this week. Lots of good memories there.
  24. The Winter Classic is a big money maker for the league. They'll be sure to give that every opportunity to succeed. I wouldn't be surprised to see the season start with that game in a shortened schedule, what better way to kick off the new season with the highest attended hockey game in history? The storyline writes itself.
  25. I'm not sure a lockout would help the Bulldogs all that much to be honest. It would ensure Leblanc goes back down but given the waiver situation, St. Denis/Palushaj would remain in limbo (Montreal lost Francois Beauchemin to waivers during the lockout last time). As for the schedule, the AHL site says the full one gets released around mid-August so I'd have to think it's sooner than later. The home opener is on October 19th, that much we know. They also have home games (don't know against who though) on Friday, Nov. 9, Friday, Dec. 21, Friday, Dec. 28, and Friday, Jan. 4.
