  1. I've never really understood why that expression is so commonly used. In this case, yes, Moen is the horse, that tidbit came from his scrum at media day. Speaking of injuries, it's a groin issue for Diaz and he won't be heading to the Worlds either.
  2. Despite the team's denials, Moen's injury was a concussion stemming from a hit from Komisarek a while ago. I think we all suspected that but there's the confirmation, straight from the horse's mouth.
  3. Desharnais has not been invited yet but would accept if asked. Depending on who actually says no off the original list, I do think he deserves to be among those considered in that secondary wave of invites.
  4. As do I. In general I question what his primary commitment would be - the increased 'francophonization' of the team or winning. His public statements in recent memory all suggest the former which, given the lack of Quebec-born NHL talent in the league at the moment, will almost assuredly lead to another step back.
  5. What was nice is that Hamilton had 5 healthy scratches - Dame-Malka, Stafford (rest, he's still not 100%), Avtsin, Slaney, and Berger.
  6. Budaj declines, that one's a bit surprising. I figured he'd go just to get the chance to play a bit having sat most of the year.
  7. Eller yes, Kaberle declines. Weber's a no-go with the injury.
  8. Markov hasn't been invited yet to play for Russia. Part of me wants him to play for conditioning sake while the other part is actually happy he can't injure himself on the ice before training camp...I hope.
  9. For those interested in how exactly the lottery is done, here is the overview and history of the lottery. Note that jumping from 3rd to 1st is the most prevalent outcome beyond retaining the 1st pick. http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=68856
  10. With today being exit interview day, I suspect we'll find out a few players who will or won't be going to the Worlds. This is a good spot to try and track them. Confirmed yes so far: Plekanec, Pacioretty, Eller, Subban, Emelin Confirmed no so far: Cole, Price, Weber (inj), Kaberle, Budaj, Diaz (inj)
  11. Should be better now, the link had 11 as the year instead of 12.
  12. If I can't get it going, I'm sure someone else will. I'll start pestering people if there's nothing by Tuesday.
  13. I've tried on IE (normal and compatibility modes) and Firefox to no avail. I'll give it a go from work tomorrow.
  14. The Bulldogs have released Trevor Hendrixx, Ryan Flanigan, Travis Novak, Jesse Todd, and Brandon Maxwell - the latter 4 from ATO's and Hendrixx from his PTO.
  15. I'm trying to get it running...keeps timing out every time I try to create it. I'll probably give it another go after I write my Sunday column for the site. 9 PM edit: Screen still goes blank when I go to register the league.
  16. He denied the rumour, here's hoping he's telling the truth. I'm not thrilled that he's helping in the GM search, to bring him on full time scares the living daylights out of me.
  17. Hamilton lost today (already done so no need for a GDT), 3-1 to Toronto. They are now done playoff wise. All 6 players sent down after last night's game suited up, the lineup didn't look half bad actually. Nattinen had the goal for the Bulldogs.
  18. 3-1 Rochester is the final. There go Hamilton's oh-so-slim playoff odds.
  19. NJ is at 89.6% which means the record is theirs. Montreal would need to kill 35 penalties tonight to tie them.
  20. So Lawson isn't ready to go, the Bulldogs have signed Mississauga goalie Brandon Maxwell to back up Delmas tonight. It's 2-1 Rochester with around 13 minutes left, Willsie has a shorthanded tally for the Dogs.
  21. Do not adjust your screen, you read the title correctly. The Bulldogs...have a home game. Their one game homestand starts and ends tonight as they host Rochester in what is for all intents and purposes, a must win game. Some good news is that Nathan Lawson, Joe Callahan, and Garrett Stafford all return tonight. If they can hold on past tomorrow when the rest of the cavalry comes (Mayer, St-Denis, Leblanc, Palushaj, Geoffrion, and Dumont) - heck, I'd be filing their demotion papers the second the final buzzer sounds in Montreal to get them available for tomorrow - they'd have most hands on deck to make a last ditch attempt. Active scoring leaders: Goals: Derek Whitmore (27) Assists: Phil Varone (40) Points: Phil Varone (49) +/-: Paul Szczechura (+13) PIMS: Joe Finley (135) Active scoring leaders: Goals: Andreas Engqvist (19) Assists: Brian Willsie (24) Points: Brian Willsie (40) +/-: Jesse Todd (+3) PIMS: Zack FitzGerald (237) Puck drop is at 7:00 PM EST and can be listened to by clicking this link: http://cham.player.amri.ca/
  22. It may just be me but I consider the fact that there isn't room for too many prospects next year to be a good thing. Force them to develop properly in Hamilton and if there is a huge rash of injuries like there was this season, the callup options are a lot better than the likes of Engqvist, Palushaj, and Dumont. Eventually you'll have to make room but you don't have to start making room for guys two and three years away from being full timers right now. The expiring contracts of Gionta, Kaberle, Gomez (if he's around still) in two years time will free up a couple of spots on their own.
  23. They'll easily reach the floor without getting Kaberle. Duchene is due for a big raise off his entry level deal, O'Reilly won't be getting 6 figures anymore, Erik Johnson will get a nice raise, as will Steve Downie. There's the 4 mil Kaberle makes...and a fair bit more too.
  24. Wait a second, you actually want Mike Green, he who has missed the equivalent of an entire season over the last two years? The same Mike Green whose offensive production on a per-game basis falls under that of Chris Campoli? And for that honour, you're okay with trading away Subban? Green was a top flight D a couple years ago, no doubt. He ain't close to that now. George McPhee has quite the decision on his hands - qualify him at $5.25 M or try and move him for pennies on the dollar. Brouwer's a good 2nd or 3rd liner and would be a nice fit but not worth losing Subban over. I also wouldn't worry about the Jackets not hitting the floor, they have more committed money beyond this year than Montreal. They'll assuredly cut salary in the offseason but they'd be hard pressed to drop all the way to the minimum in one offseason unless they wind up taking strictly future assets in trades. Colorado, meanwhile, is a budget team; although Plekanec + the 1st round prospect is good value for them, Kaberle's inclusion without assuming another contract in return would likely sway them to say no, especially with players like Downie, Duchene, Johnson, and O'Reilly all to re-sign.
