  1. It's the second half of the mini-series out West for the Bulldogs as they once again play Abbotsford. Active scoring leaders: Goals: DeSimone/Masse (6) Assists: Brian Willsie (11) Points: Brian Willsie (14) +/-: Andreas Engqvist (+2) PIMS: ZacK FitzGerald (113) Active scoring leaders: Goals: Krys Kolanos (13) Assists: Ben Walter (13) Points: Krys Kolanos (24) +/-: Jon Rheault (+6) PIMS: Guillaume Desbiens (61) Puck drop was at 4:00 PM EST and can be listened to by clicking this link: http://cham.player.amri.ca/ It's 1-1 after 1, Engqvist with the early PPG for the Bulldogs.
  2. Early reports suggest there will be no supplemental discipline for Cole.
  3. Per RDS, Gionta's a no-go for any of the games this week.
  4. The actual buyout cost in dollar value would be the following: Gomez: $6,666,667 over 4 years Kaberle: $5,833,333 over 4 years He wouldn't be walking away from the money if he got another coaching job. The new team would hire him within the parameters of the NHL's established FMV for coaches (that we've seen used a couple times already this year in Hitchcock and Boudreau) with the firing team picking up any of the difference. And no, another team can't offer Martin say $250,000 per year and make the Habs pick up the rest, the new team has to pay that FMV which would be in the 7 figure range for sure given his experience. Martin could take over as head coach of, say Columbus, and collect the exact money he's getting to not coach.
  5. It's something I plan to discuss in a bit of detail in the HW Recap tomorrow but it's going to be a little while before we see any real changes. Certainly longer than one practice after just getting hit with the news. One change we did see was Cammalleri coming off the penalty kill at least so some tweaks are at least being looked at.
  6. The point still has some merit and I did acknowledge a big chunk came early on obviously when fewer games were played. The fact of the matter is, his PP usage on the whole is overstated.
  7. How many failed trade attempts have we heard about while Gauthier was in charge? Not from random Twitter sources either, legitimate ones. I think we've heard about as many as failed attempts I've made as GM of the Habs...0. The organization keeps things close to the vest, so I don't think it's unfair to assume that if such an attempt was made, that we wouldn't have heard about it. Heck, we barely hear anything when something does happen... I'll flip the other part of the question around - why are you so critical of Gauthier for something you're presupposing as a hypothetical? It'd be one thing if he came out and said we could've got Malkin but chose not to, but to jump on him because you don't think he made an offer seems unfair.
  8. Darche is averaging less than 1 PP minute per game. So it's not as if he was getting a ton of time. Granted, a large chunk of that came early on but still, his overall usage has been greatly overstated and exaggerated. That said, Eller probably should have seen at least some of that time.
  9. You didn't have Subban in that last quote, he changes things as I noted earlier. I was responding to the suggestion that a team would be willing to part with a superstar for Cammalleri, Gionta, and prospects, something I don't think would be the case.
  10. You might be, but some underachieving highly paid players (and prospects) shouldn't normally entice other GM's to do that deal.
  11. The 50 contract limit also needs to be considered. Most teams are within 2 of the limit, making multiplayer for one player deals even harder to materialize. Such a limit didn't exist back in the day of the Gretzky and Lindros moves.
  12. Nope, only Plekanec is on a 6 year pact. Cammalleri and Gionta were both 5 year ones. Cammalleri and Subban for Malkin? That'd be something they'd probably consider more than Cammalleri and a collection of depth guys, possible future decent guys, and prospects/picks.
  13. In dealing a star guy for lesser players for cap reasons, the package usually involves a couple pieces going back. Not 6. Campoli could've been had for free earlier and considering he was hurt at the time of which you said Gauthier should've got a deal done, had even less than zero value to them. If I were Ray Shero, I'd have hung up the phone without question as that package is not worthy of a Malkin, not even close. He has 2 years left (Staal 1), so UFA status isn't a factor, especially when the key piece in your proposal (Cammalleri) expires at the same time anyway.
  14. It appears new smileys are assigned to the far right (such as the tumbleweed one). So that's a good place to look.
  15. When was the last time a team did a 6 for 1 deal as you've proposed? And how do we know the Habs didn't inquire about those guys, it can't automatically be assumed he didn't. Even when Crosby returned, one would think that their GM would've been cautious at first in case a repeat instance occurred. That would be akin to the Habs trading Gorges and Emelin two games after Markov came back since he's healthy and ready to go.
  16. Turris to Ottawa, no idea on the return yet. Interesting.
  17. I hope the organization feels the best thing for Palushaj is to stop yo-yo'ing him and let him settle in with the Bulldogs for a bit. There really isn't a spot for a bigger role right now beyond the 3rd line RW spot which is currently occupied by Leblanc. If Palushaj takes that spot, Leblanc goes back to being in a useless spot on the 4th. Moen skated today which suggests he may be ready for the Boston game. If that's the case, there's no point in bringing Palushaj or anyone else up.
  18. I don't think the LA one has any legs. For LA to give up their captain, on a team-friendly deal, for a guy they were happy to trade away just a few short years ago? If I was an LA fan and that happened, I'd want Dean Lombardi's head on a platter...more than now with the Sutter coaching decision. The Staal 'rumour' was from a no-name on Twitter who, if I remember correctly, was proclaiming Martin would be fired on Sunday...after the announcement of his firing came today.
  19. In place of Weber or Blunden? I'll stick with Darche given those options.
  20. Gallant isn't a rookie though. He coached Columbus for 147 games from 2003-04 to 2006-07.
  21. As I suspect this will be a rather interesting discussion, I've uploaded a new smiley to 'commemorate' the occasion. I'll leave you guys to go find it (not that it's hard to do so).
  22. They've happened before (Habs 'traded' for Julien) so you had me fooled...
  23. I wouldn't bother. Moves like that are no longer permitted, they were wiped out in the CBA.
  24. One line change of sorts from the morning skate. Leblanc is back on the 3rd line RW in place of Nokelainen (they were swapped last game).
  25. My quick (and I mean quick) writeup of this morning's events. http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2672
