  1. He quickly is becoming one of the more prominent players for the Czech squad; it's understandable that he's starting to have more of a presence with his compatriots. Long time since we've heard from you revvv, how have things been?
  2. J-M Liles to the Leafs for a 2nd rounder. Liles has an iffy cap hit, that's why the cost is relatively cheap. Guess he's replacing Kaberle.
  3. He was barely that in the KHL, players generally don't get more ice time when they come to North America. He's a 3rd pairing guy to start the year with the potential to move up later on. There's nothing wrong with that either, I like the thought of having the youngsters ease in instead of counting on them to log big minutes right away. I think this may be it for the defencemen signings aside from another Picard-type player (or Picard himself re-signing) as a hedge against injury.
  4. Voracek will improve while Schenn and Simmonds are also nice pieces but to move those 2 in order to give Bryzgalov a 9 year contract? I think Holmgren has lost his mind here, though he more or less helped undo part of the mess he made by signing so many guys long-term...to then go give a goalie 9 years.
  5. Do they? They've sold out every game already and I'd say fan interest is pretty high. For Winnipeg (who I believe asked for a Canadian opponent), this will get them going with a bang.
  6. The Habs do request to start each year with a road trip and the league generally tries to get good games on the schedule at the beginning. What will drum up more interest, Habs vs Winnipeg or Habs vs Islanders?
  7. The Habs can buy out Spacek but the cap hit would remain in full. They'd pay the money the same way a standard buyout goes (2/3 over 2 years), but his cap hit would stay at $3.83. The deal's not done, not even close. The rumour has already been debunked by his agent (minutes after it came out) and considering the initial source, it wasn't worth getting excited over in the first place. Meehan said talks would continue at the draft so at this time, I wouldn't expect any news until Saturday unless one of the two sides has a change of heart on whatever the offer is currently. The good news is that he has spurned a lot of KHL offers so we shouldn't see him bolt back home which was at least a possibility before.
  8. I agree completely he won't be the BPA as I said in the other draft thread. I don't think he'll be bad a pick as McIlrath though, Oleksiak is one of the more safe giant blueliners in the draft in recent years. The Leafs have said they'd be willing to move 25 or 30 with their 2nd rounder (39) to move up. From what Burke has said, I don't see them moving both 1st rounders to move up. Oh, and since we're now using this as the draft thread (I'm guessing as such), make sure to make your picks in our annual draft pool. For anyone wondering, I'm the defending champ. http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2509
  9. Our selection for the Habs at #17 is a little off the board but a good fit nonetheless, J.T. Miller. http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2511
  10. The Habs have just now confirmed the contract if anyone's wondering.
  11. As long as it's not that Leaf one we had to endure a couple years back...
  12. It's down to Noel (who I predicted would get the job last week) and Haviland for the Winnipeg job. Sounds like no Muller here which means it's just the Devils to worry about.
  13. Though you're correct in the timing, the deal was agreed upon prior to noon on July 1st though not announced until later in the day. At least that's what I had heard.
  14. Even without him re-signing, I wouldn't rule it out. He already has received 30% of next year's salary. If he bolts anywhere between now and then, he'll surely get the same deal he had in the KHL so he'd wind up with more money and secure his UFA status in 2 years time. The Habs will have to tread lightly with Yemelin for sure.
  15. The Journal de Montreal is saying it's not happening; that's the first one to claim a deal isn't imminent. http://www.habsworld.net/out.php?12500
  16. The draft is now 7 rounds from the 9 it once was. Frolov has signed long-term overseas, his NHL days are over. Even if they weren't, he's coming off an abysmal injury plagued year, I don't even think his KHL team will have him on their front line.
  17. For those who don't want the translated part, they can read the English quote from that same paper 3 posts above yours. RDS is stretching things a little based on what was actually written.
  18. No matter what, the first part of that prediction will surely hold true.
  19. From what I've read, he is tumbling down the rankings. It's not that he won't be an NHL'er, it's just that his ceiling is more or less a checker. Those are good guys to get in the 2nd round but not at pick 17...though the Habs did do just that a few years back with Chipchura at 18.
  20. A report out of New York regarding their chances of landing Jagr: Also in the article is a note on how Wojtek Wolski may be bought out, intriguing. http://www.nydailyne...l#ixzz1Pdg4WumJ
  21. Chiarelli may have been let go but the Sens did try to punish Boston by refusing to let him out of his existing deal a couple weeks early to run Boston's draft. I forget if in the end they eventually did but that was an interesting story at the time. With regards to Muller, some cautious good news. According to this report, the 4 primary candidates for Winnipeg are Craig Ramsay, Claude Noel, Craig MacTavish, and Mike Haviland. That's the good news. The caution part is the later note that says if management considers other candidates, Muller would likely get a look.
  22. Since it's the offseason, time to start looking at the league-wide news and rumblings: - The Rangers plan to buyout Drury this offseason...except they can't. http://www.nypost.co...C-rss&FEEDNAME= Though the condition is enough to fail a physical (required to grieve any buyout) I don't think it'll be enough to force him to miss the whole year. Wonder if that will affect their shot at signing Richards as though he'll surely be on LTIR for some of the year, he might not be for all of it. The fact that Redden will jump back onto their offseason cap (of which you can only be over by 10% of all 1 way deals plus pro-rations of two-way deals based days spent on an NHL roster) will also play a role. Since he has this condition, he can probably block an AHL move too. Could be interesting. - Florida wants to buyout Rostislav Olesz but he could grieve it due to injury as well. - Reports are that NJ has already filed to take Parise to arbitration which will prevent him from getting an offer sheet. If they do wind up in arbitration though, it'll be a 1 year deal with him becoming a UFA after so it's a risky strategy. - Nashville has done the same as New Jersey had with Shea Weber.
  23. As Trizz noted, the Habs are more or less stuck with his cap hit (less a token $100,000) if he's in the AHL.
  24. Bouchard a acheté les Juniors de Montréal cette semaine, je pense qu'il aura un plus petit rôle avec RDS pour la saison prochaine.
