  1. Seriously, 3 years at 2.5M for 32pts in 38 games. It seems like a bit much, eh? Obviously, he's played well, but what if he slides again...
  2. Well...he played less like a little girl last night? There was more effort chasing pucks, but the whole line didn't get much going though.
  3. I think Streit has been doing quite poorly on the point this series. Brisebois actually looked much better than him on the powerplay last night.
  4. I wish there was something certain about Koivu's return...right now all I know is that it will be re-evaluated on Wednesday according to CBC
  5. Obviously, the team needs to pick up their play a bit to match the Bruins intensity starting Tuesday. We all saw that the Bruins managed to turn Sunday's game into a streetfight so to speak, and I don't think it was an exaggeration to say that the best line for Montreal was Smolinski, Begin and Kostopoulous. That definitely has to change. Some thoughts: The Kovalev line wasn't able to get anything going because they were being pushed around. The Higgins, Ryder and S. Kostitsyn line has done nothing of note so far in the series. Ryder's been hitting and the effort is there from him, but he can't seem to play well with those guys. O'Byrne might be a better choice on D than Streit, who has really struggled with the Bruins forecheck. What are your thoughts for Tuesday? Should Carbonneau keep the same lineup or make some changes?
  6. Personally, I think Stephen`s most significant move was restarting the Participaction program. Plenty of Canadians could use some more exercise, especially himself.
  7. He seemed like a surefire fourth liner type of player to me, and yeah similar to what Kostopoulous usually does.
  8. Well, Cherry was a real class act last night :lool: Droning about left-wingers (I mean the Gore and Suzuki variety), raining on the Kovalev parade, and just generally throwing a tantrum since the Leafs bombed out.
  9. In your previous post you clearly quoted him saying the following: "So then who is currently, right now, having a better second line C season then Koivu?" But I digress. Clearly I'm of the opinion that Koivu is having an off year, and you are not.
  10. How? He's talking about this season. Sure, Malkin and Richards are better statistically and Briere too. But the vast majority you claim are better this season aren't. Marleau's having a pathetic year, Drury is producing less, Patrice Bergeron hasn't played most of the season, Cammalleri is having a bad season, and Marc Savard is acutally Boston's #1 centre, not #2. Just look at the numbers before you claim that half the league is better than he is. I mean honestly, come on, Patrick Marleau's fantastic 47 points and -19?
  11. Richards might be, his numbers are pretty woeful at plus minus due to his playing for the fantastic Tampa Bay Lightning. But your general tone is absolutely right. Currently, of the top 30 scorers at centre in the league, Montreal has Plekanec at #21 and Koivu at #27. The only other teams with more than one in the top 30 are Dallas, Philadelphia and NYR. So Koivu was doing pretty darn good for a #2 centre. I think that might have been Gainey's intentions when he struck out for Briere in the offseason. When it happens, the team will look even better.
  12. That's ridiculous. We should be hoping Montreal blows Ottawa out of the water. Again.
  13. Honestly I'd like to see the people what the people who bashed Moore for suing Bertuzzi think now. I mean for Bertuzzi to just turn around and sue Crawford, wow. Leaves me speechless.
  14. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...id=..wsptmaki26 Alan Maki of the Globe and Mail is calling him the "likely coach of the year"
  15. It seems that people (I count two instances in the thread) are getting mixed up with the title being "retiring #33" and the actual question which is whether his character should be considered. So, say if someone thinks that Roy's jersey should be retired, he votes "yes" to the question...even though he should actually vote no. Anyways, his jersey deserves to be in the rafters. Stubborn and arrogant, or not, Roy did enough to justify that honour.
  16. I have to agree. Halak is hardly the kind of player GM's would be desperate to throw offer sheets at. Sure, Penner was hardly a star player, but he had a 30 goal season - Halak hasn't even played more than a handful of games at the NHL level.
  17. Terrible news...the team has to step up the physical play, a lot of teams didn't run our stars because they knew they had to answer to Komisarek. I hope O'Byrne picks up his physical play.
  18. You're getting way ahead of yourself here. Halak's played only a handful of NHL games this year. No team is that desperate for him that they will be giving up a 1st round pick like Lowe did for Penner. He's a good goalie though, absolutely. But 6 or 7 teams lining up to poach him is a bit much at this point in his career.
  19. Well, it's probably conceivable that the Leafs wanted Higgins and a first rounder (I don't know about the 2nd and 3rd), there was obviously discussion between Gainey and Fletcher re Sundin, but it doesn't add up to a confirmed deal that was stopped only by Sundin saying no.
  20. Well, I'd find a reasonable contract for Streit to be in the 2-2.5M/yr range. He has good talent, but he's not worthy of a contract that reaches over that range.
  21. I think Koivu can bounce back. Latendresse may hit 20 if he stays on the second line, but he has really lacks the will to take punishment and drive to the net on the ice, once he gets that going, he'll by dynamite. Kostitsyn will beat Higgins in points. Gorges, who knows? Streit will be re-signed most likely.
  22. In retrospect Montreal probably should have kept Bonk, he did a good job in the role of a PKer and checking centre, and he's having a fairly mediocre year in Nashville right now. Darn Smolinski... Well, there's always next game...
