  1. I've been a fan of the Weber in the Ovi spot while Petry quarterbacks the whole thing idea for some time, sadly we don't see it get the run that it should. Setup in my mind would be -Petry along the blue line to quarterback, all options are open to him. -Weber at the dot on the left side for one timers, he has one purpose. -Suzuki in the distributor spot by the goal line on the right side, has access to Petry, Drouin and Armia for plays from this spot. -Armia in front of the net, has great hands in tight to finish plays. -Drouin at the dot on the right side for one timers or distribution, has access to Petry and Weber if lanes are open and a one timer isn't the best option. Personally, i'd love to see this setup get a good 5 to 8 game run and see what the body of work looks like.
  2. Would be a hell of a pick up, however, can't see STL not making moves to ensure they can keep him, he is young, his cap hit would be overall affordable, they just have to toss out some veteran cap hits to make room. That is an avenue I see them exploring, well before giving away an asset like Dunn, on the RFA market, uncontested. Would be amazing, don't get me wrong, but also why it is unlikely to happen.
  3. Tatar - Danault - Gallagher Drouin - Suzuki - Armia Byron - KK - Lehkonen Hudon - Poehling - Evans Chiarot - Weber Kulak - Petry Mete - Fleury If Domi plays.. Tatar - Danault - Gallagher Drouin - Suzuki - Armia Domi - KK - Lehkonen Hudon - Poehling - Byron Looking at this objectively, I can see the argument for moving Domi in exchange for quality assets that fit team needs, he was incredibly difficult to place in a position, he could succeed in the line up, if Suzuki and KK have indeed taken their next steps, respectively. And even still, I am not sure he would be thrilled about being out of the top 6, we are going to have to ponder long and hard on that situation as an organization going forward.
  4. Nah, keep Weal far from that situation, there is no long term gain in Weal taking those missions instead of them, and that is how we should be managing every scenario when it comes to our young building block players. if we are to evolve into a contender at some point, it will have to be with guys like Suzuki and KK taking on big minutes against big match ups, there is no other way. This is their apprenticeship, they need the experience, and not only that, they need to learn to do it, and be successful, in order for us to be successful down the road. You use this as your "This is what playoff hockey is going to feel like against Elite players, get on their level boys" speech. If they fail, they will learn from it the same way any good fighter learns from a loss, and we are in lottery pick contention. If they succeed, then we get pleasantly surprised and begin to transition our beliefs in this team into something more hopeful for the future, the very near future, rather than the distant one.
  5. Those were dark times.. Always remember the few, and brave, brethren who stood a long side you in defense of that trade.. And i'll obviously just leave it at that 😉
  6. In Weber's defense, he took himself down by throwing what would have been, a decapitating haymaker straight out of Super Smash Bros, that narrowly missed.
  7. Well it only makes the fact he didn't trade Tatar even more mind boggling, you would think for sure he would have traded him considering his plan to acquire a bad player backfired when he turned out to be a nearly PPG player for us, he missed his chance to correct the mistake.
  8. Yes, and Buffalo has a brighter future, Ottawa will surpass us, NJ would contend before us, all typical lyrics being sung by the doomsday band. This would be easier if the Titanic band could be playing in the background while reading..
  9. Colorado are trying to add a top 6 forward, we are trying to add a top 4 D, you can see pretty clearly what the 2 would be discussing, who is being discussed either way, who knows, but the structure of a hockey trade between us and them will revolve around a forward leaving and a D man coming in.
  10. No, this is garbage, every team relying on draft lottery to solve their issues have fans reciting the same old "Better positioned for the future" crap. Buffalo has had a "brighter future" than everyone for years, Oilers were going to be contending in a couple of years, FOR YEARS, NJ was going to set the league on fire after drafting Hischier, Hughes, and making the moves they did this summer, only to be forced to rebuild some more, but now with bigger contracts like Subban's on the cap, Toronto was supposed to be a contender at this point, but they can't seem to beat the 1st round or a zamboni driver for that matter, and the list goes on. There are actually much more examples of teams failing to rise from the ashes from lottery picks than there is that do. Pittsburgh and Chicago are the only prime examples where this worked out with actual results to speak of, maybe someone else will join them one of these days but that hasn't happened yet, at all. You didn't see Boston, St. Louis, Washington, Vegas, Nashville, have to crap their pants for several years recently, to reach their status as Elite teams. We seriously need to stop with this dated mentality that if you are the worst team for a couple of years, you will then magically become the best team a couple of years later. There are many ways to achieve an elite team, none of which can be done without very good cap management, trading, signings, drafting, and development. So lets focus on trying to be the best we can be in those areas for a few years and stop focusing on shipping everyone out who isn't nailed down in the locker room.
  11. While I agree with your assessment, I will say, the difference between an almost Elite team and and Elite team is very nominal. Once in the playoffs, all hell can break loose with who catches fire, who gets hurt, what goalie suddenly becomes superman, all factors that blur the line between almost elite and elite (Vegas 17-18 vs Western Elites as an example). The fact that we we're in either of those groups for a period of time meant that we did have a chance to breakthrough and reach a final under the right circumstances. Krieder taking out Price was the circumstance we couldn't afford that year, we were well on our way to a cup final that year and from there, who knows.
  12. I'm not sure why you are so disgusted, he has been lighting it up on the PP from the right dot most of the season in Laval, certainly earned a look based on that alone. It's not like he is out there instead of Drouin or something, come on now.
  13. Team defense and confidence just hasn't been good enough, easy to blame Coaching but when the group can go for stretches looking solid and then stretches looking leaky, you can't honestly think the Coaching is telling them to change up something that allows them to have success. On Paper the team has 3 very solid D, all of which are probably being over played atm because they are indeed the only 3 worthy of being overplayed, if we bump that up by 1 more, we would be in obvious, much better shape. We'll see what happens this summer, a hockey trade could bring that piece in, or even a guy like Romanov can prove he is capable of filling the role into the later stages of the season, we'll just have to see how it plays out.
  14. Can always count on your comedic levels of rational analysis when it comes to anything Bergevin does. Guy turns a 4th round pick into a 2nd round pick with Scandella, then turns a free asset into a 3rd round pick with a more than decent chance to bring that asset back just a few months from now. Totally the work of an incompetent train wreck...
  15. All expiring deals can go for whatever they can fetch, Kovy being the only exception if a reasonable resigning can be done. Not to say that I am against trading him, but I don't feel a need to make sure he is gone compared to the other expiring deals if they can work something out. Guys like Tatar and Petry should be kept unless someone offers something crazy, I wouldn't be shopping these guys or anyone else for that matter. You want one of them, come and try to pry them from me, i'm not dangling them out there, but i'll answer the phone and hear what you have to say, would be my approach.
  16. Ok, you are going to have to give me a couple examples of GMs who are retooling through the draft, and making the playoffs consistently, while also being contenders..
  17. Boy if they smash through this week in successful fashion, the fever with this team will be on like donkey kong.
  18. First 5 years, he was below average, honorable mention to the Petry move though, who is a top 15 RHD in this league in my book and severely underrated, but that's something different entirely. While the majority of his hockey moves were pretty good, his hockey direction and plan of action were not. Notable moments of utter failure being the summer we lost Markov and Radulov for nothing and replaced them with Streit and cap space. While I am not at all opposed to a change of personnel, or whether Radulov was being greedy with us or whatever, bottom line is if you are letting important players walk due to age and contracts, you better have a solid plan to replace them adequately, he did not, like, at all. One could argue that summer set off the events that would lead to the retool. Last couple years, he's been solid, dialed in on a plan that made sense, made solid hockey moves towards that end, re-filled the bare cupboards with some real meaningful young players, and has refused to deviate from his plan no matter how great the temptation. Whether he deserved the chance to learn from his mistakes, or not, the fact is he got a 9th life, and he is certainly making the best of it. I wonder if he had applied this kind of conviction towards a plan when he first got here, instead of seemingly, learn on the job, where we could be today. Overall, I see his tenure as GM in 2 chapters, and Below average + Above average = Average in my books, so that's what I think of him, he has been an average GM. The optimist in me would also like to think he is showing signs of a guy getting better and better at this job by learning through past mistakes, so the best could truly be, yet to come.
  19. Nothing like scratching the youth when you're building around it..
  20. I'd say yes, but in all honesty, trading away a 1st before we are sure about turning the corner as a team is very risky and ill advised. So while i'd say, to the right team in the right circumstance this could certainly be possible, I don't think we have reached a point yet as a roster to chuck away any 1st rounders, therefore we can't get a Trouba for that offer because we shouldn't be making it yet 😎
  21. Patches was nearing 30, Domi is not. When you are building through youth and drafting as we are, it makes no sense to trade productive 24- 25 year olds, they still hold a lot of value at a long term rate for you. It is simply too soon to trade Domi at this point, we might not know exactly where he fits in the puzzle yet, but that doesn't mean he isn't a part of it. I'd only consider the option of moving him if someone called me, and offered something too good to pass up, i'm certainly not calling other teams about him unless it sounds like he is going to want a trojan horse as a contract. My gut says he loves it here, and though he will require a healthy pay raise, it won't be anything unfair or that we can't fit.
  22. Suzuki is the only one who looks like the same player whether he is at C or W, so the obvious choice to unclog the situation is him on the wing. Domi and even Poehling don't seem as dominant when on the wing, KK we haven't really seen there but I doubt it would work. Eventually in the coming years the log jam might require moving some bodies if the players showcase the ability to step up and be able to handle the roles. An eventual 1 - 2 -3 of Suzuki, KK, and Poehling might be where this whole thing projects in a few years, which means trade decisions could be on the horizon in a few years.
  23. If they win this one, against the juggernauts known as the Caps, i'm predicting a St.Louis style turn around the rest of the way. And don't even think about judging me if my prediciton is wrong, predictions are wrong all the time, you judging little judgers...of judging..
