  1. woah, Woah, WOAH!... That is making waaayyy too much sense, and thus, be impossible for them to execute, because they prefer making the decisions that don't make sense when it comes to these matters.
  2. Where did this speculative nonsense that he signed here with a secret deal in place that he would be traded at the deadline even come from? Jesus, the stuff this fish bowl comes up with sometimes is perplexing..
  3. Unimpressive... They have exactly 4 players producing at over a point per game rate atm, and are being back stopped by a goalie having the season of his life with a .929 SV%. Surely you can find the differences between us and them as far as where they are at in their arc as a team and where we are at?
  4. Ghallagher and Armia play how many minutes per game? Definitely screened shots and net front presences when they are out there so I don't see where you are going with this. The stats all look founded, the logic behind what they mean and what is happening is certainly connected. With that said though, at the end of the day this team was just not good enough yet to be a sure fire playoff team while dealing with the kind of key injuries to key players it dealt with in the first half of the season. That is not an excuse, it is a reality, we are not an elite team, and only elite teams can still keep their heads above water while losing some of their best players for long periods of time, that's it, that's all.
  5. Not following here... First off, as a prime example of why you don't do this kind of thing with young players, imagine for a moment if Barkov and Huberdeau had their NHL careers defined and predicted during their second season, how wrong would every projection be compared to what they are delivering presently? Imagine trying to determine a player's eventual ceiling while he is playing in the league as a 19 year old. We have no clue what this kid is going to become, trying to insinuate that he is likely a bust when he is barely 115 games into his career and not even 20 is ambitiously negative to say the least. History has shown us very often, that elite players don't round out until between the ages of 21 - 24, trying to pin point what he will be prior to that is likely setting yourself up for a failed projection. What we know is he is packed full of talent, he has every tool needed to become a star in this league, at a position of great importance. Secondly, if for whatever reason, he becomes Lars Eller 3.0, we still have another young center, who in his rookie season is really opening eyes already himself, he goes by the name of Nick Suzuki. Our 3 year outlook at center hasn't looked this potentially good in this entire millennium, I really don't see why this scenario dampens the potential to contend in the coming years for you. We need some help at LD, it is the most glaring need for this team to take a step forward, and depending on who eventually takes that spot, will determine how big of a step forward we take. I think most of us are hoping Romanov can be that guy in a big way, and from there, the core players in the core positions of the team that will be coming together in the next 3 years looks very well placed to make some noise. After that it simply becomes a matter of what pieces you stick to the board to make that core of young players even better, that is yet to be determined.
  6. Trading Poehling would go against any semblance of the plan that has been getting cooked for the past 2 years. We would more likely wait for Romanov to enter the top 4 D than trade Poehling, because that is what you do when you are building through youth/draft, you don't trade them away. When you enter borderline contender status, you can consider trading away some youth for the piece that gets you over the top. Until then, you don't, you stay patient and keep swinging at bat during the draft to fill the cupboard up.
  7. Wth are you watching? Julien and Therrien's systems couldn't be more different at the moment, Julien evolved and changed his entire system, when they brought in Ducharme, and a whole new coaching staff, into the fast paced, counter attacking transition style we see today. I don't get the logic behind making up your own versions of reality to prove a point that simply isn't happening. We get it, you want to set fire to everything, remove the coaches the management, the players over 28 years of age, burn it all. But at the end of the day, you aren't being realistic or reasonable in your assessment, you have allowed an extreme negative perception of our situation cloud your opinion from any accuracy, making you very difficult to take seriously at this point.
  8. I find it hilarious that Bergevin is able to stay poised with the plan to build through youth, despite injuries knocking us down in the standings, compared to half the fanbase.
  9. Turcotte and Caufield hooked up for a great hockey play? You don't say....
  10. Byfield is definitely taking longer to get remotely going than I thought
  11. Don't like it one bit, you got Turcotte and Zegras, 2 great playmakers scattered around while a line of them 2 with Caufield would be wrecking havoc at any given moment. They would both benefit from a high percentage finisher like Caufield, and he would benefit from players able to find him every time he gets lost in the weeds. U.S coach obviously has a strategy of his own, but I simply don't get it or like it, if you weren't planning on using Caufield as your version of Stamkos, why even bring him a long? Surely someone else would have been better suited to play 13 min with minimal PP time than him.
  12. Here's to an 8 game win streak at the end of March for Christmas!! You can do it Santa!
  13. I like the kid, and really appreciate some of the things he uniquely brings to the table, but every time i see him in a top 6 position where he would be required to produce, instead of a 3rd line shut down role where production is a bonus, I just feel like...
  14. First off, MB isn't a genius, I don't think anyone here would remotely consider making such a foolish claim. Secondly, The fact you are harping on that trade, is pretty mind boggling, that one hasn't even turned out badly for us at all. Drouin has looked like a real stud who matured a great deal this season before his injury, and Sergachev would barely be higher than Mete in our current depth chart. It's his 3rd season in Tampa and still he is averaging 18 - 19 min per game on a talented team like Tampa. Stop acting like Sergachev would be the second coming of Markov at this point had we kept him, because the truth is, he isn't. He is a mobile, talented, but high risk Dman, and he still doesn't have the trust of his coach to play big minutes despite your claims that he was the chosen one on the Left side, it would be no different over here. He has a long way to go to round out his game to be a true top pair guy, and who knows if he will ever be reliable enough without the puck to be trusted against other team's top players and soak up a lot of minutes. Cart way before the horse on that one, but when all you do is push the same old agenda that everything we do is stupid, nothing is good, you're bound to do that. If there is one area where Bergevin has literally not made any big blunders yet, it is via trade, look up his history, there is no huge losses there that have had a big negative impact on this team, not one. He has hit several home runs though, but I'm sure you would rather not praise a single aspect of his management. Now if you wanted to attack other areas of his tenure like his vision or plan, his offseason strategy, some free agent signings or negotiation failures, that would be different, because he has had blunders in some of those departments, no doubt. But of course I am talking about a fair analysis, that makes sense, and isn't hell bent on excessive amounts of haterade, you wouldn't understand that...
  15. I'd like to see what Poehling can do for some time in the top 6 while he is playing solid and confident hockey. They could move Lehky with Suzuki and Cousins with Thompson and put Poehling with Domi and Armia until some bodies get back for a few games.
  16. Bad Refs, Bad Luck, and Great Saves from Bernie were the difference tonight. The better team lost, and that happens from time to time
  17. For all the "what the heck are you doin" play from Domi early in this thing, that was one hell of a play to help his team get the W. the good ones always find a way, even on a seemingly off night.
  18. I'll start by saying your view point in this post is completely understandable, you bring up good points that validate your skepticism and that of others. However imo, you are omitting some of the bigger picture positives that could be incorporated to lighten your view of the current situation with this team. For point 1, i'd sooner see a competent President of Hockey operations get brought in, to help infuse more insight in important hockey deals and also keep people accountable if trust becomes a factor. That person would then be entrusted to assure mediocrity is not a strategy, that building towards contention is the constant goal no matter what part of the cycle we are at. For point 2, I think of it as a relationship with a significant other, if you had a turbulent, up and down, first 4 or 5 years and were on the verge of ending it all, but then decided to give it one more honest effort to make it work. You would realistically use that as a reset point, if things were going well during that reset, you wouldn't be trying to throw the issues of the past back in each others faces, that would impossibly lead to no other outcome but a negative one. I think we can mostly agree if not all agree, MB had done enough to get himself fired after the 2017 season, no one would have really protested against it. A decision was made to give him one last chance to do things differently this time, taking with him the baggage from his previous years, good and bad, and make something better of it this time. I fully believe he was well aware this was his last life and he intended to make the best of it with what he had learned on the job. He was given the opportunity to try again one last time, whether we agree or not if he deserved it is beside the point, it is what happened. It is why some of us, myself included, do treat this as a reset point, and do indeed differentiate it with his other years on the job. This is with very little doubt, the moment he got his last chance from the organization, his back against the wall moment, his opportunity to show evolution and positive growth within his job. What he has done and will continue to do during this phase of his GM tenure here is the bulk of what I am evaluating him for at the moment, others here as well. For point 3, the prospect situation has undeniably improved, it has practically sky rocketed into the top 5 around the league. And while you are absolutely correct in your assessment that it does not guarantee success or contention, it does present options, very good ones. The option to build from within, the option to fill holes with cheaper and younger prospects while moving more expensive pieces away opening new opportunity down the line to upgrade certain roster needs. The option to fast track certain situations by using a deep prospect pool as trade chips to fix glaring holes becomes another option on the table. A calculated combination of both options could yield great results as well. Look at Boston for instance, all you need is a couple of organizational prospects to really pan out, smart salary management a long the way and suddenly you are contending again with players from the previous window. They didn't have to sink into the abyss and trade away Chara, Bergeron and Krecji to reset themselves as contenders, they had Pastrnak, DeBrusk, Krug, McAvoy, and Coyle latch themselves onto the previous core and contention was achieved without endless years of bottom feeding. Not trying to guarantee that is how our own prospect situation will pan out, because that would be impossible, but with guys like KK, Suzuki, Fleury, Romanov, Poehling, to name a few, there is a lot to be positive about what can attach itself to the core veterans like Price, Weber, Petry, Gallagher, etc. It could potentially sprout the kind of team that stops worrying about making the playoffs every season and starts worrying about trying to win the division every season, and making deep playoff runs, and who knows after that. But at least you are in the group you want to be in, the one you are building towards year after year, where you are a team that could win it all. Finally, as for what you want, you are correct, your ask is not astronomical by any means, but it does not exactly align with what has been happening since the "Reset" began. I think what MB is looking for within these initial seasons was growth from within and where it would come from and from whom. Fundamentally, you have to know these things before you can truly start including some of your top 5 prospects in various trade proposals to bolster parts of your roster you know require your attention. It is no secret MB valued a C upgrade in Duchene, and an LD upgrade in Gardiner this summer, neither of those options came to fruition, and it is what it is. While it was disappointing to see those options slip by, I was impressed by the fact instead of resorting to short sighted patch jobs as he had in the past. He committed to his youth, and challenged them to be the difference makers at the present, while leaving himself the necessary resources to make a move at any point , should the right one present itself, to take a step forward. I see a changed approach, a changed strategy and a much improved thought process just there alone, it leaves more than enough room for optimism going forward, I know you can see that too. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that we are on a very different path now than we were before, and that it could lead to some promising results if managed correctly going forward. That is not at all the same as singing Yippi Ka Ye or whatever, it is not the definition of insanity, where you do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. This feels very different, this looks different, and for that reason, optimism that this could end up working out much better is warranted imo.
  19. I'm boldly predicting a Weber breakaway now in this game because illWill has done the GDT. And I am defiantly predicting he pulls a Datsyuk on it, then barely celebrates... I just envisioned it while typing it out, so i'm already a winner in my mind as far as i'm concerned.
  20. If anyone has earned a Gretzky like goal from Weber on their GDT night, it's you. The Gods have spoken
  21. I know for a fact illWill was cackling when Weber scored that goal.
  22. I'm gonna tell my kids this is the 2019 Habs Dammit I can't believe this over played meme got me.....sorry guys..
  23. This is a confidence, shock and awe type of disintegration, the structure in its principle is good, we play a new age, quick transition game. Players know where they should be players know who should be back checking, who should be supporting. Problem is they are all playing the game like there is a hand grenade on the ice, every decision becomes a rogue decision, the thought process cannot be understood in this context by anyone, coaches, the players themselves, people watching. The execution is not there in any of the structure because they are mentally shot, they need a shot in the arm, a lucky win, something to shake the mental state of this entire team. I was expecting some growing pains when they began this quick rebuild for a couple of years, but this is well below what this team should be, they are supposed to be a bubble team, not a lottery one.
  24. I don't want a panic button, I want a fix it now button
