  1. Will tonight be the night the Habs get their first preseason win? Montreal's Lines: TBD Toronto's Lines: van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Setoguchi Matthias - Holland - Boyes Komarov - Nylander - Hyman Glencross - Froese - Kapanen Gardiner - Robidas Marincin - Polak Brennan - Fraser Reimer Sparks Puck drop is at 7:30 PM and will be on RDS as usual as well as nationally across the Sportsnet regional networks (E/O/W/P).
  2. Chicago's Lines: TBD, here is their extended roster for tonight: http://www.habsworld.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Blackhawks_9-25-151.jpg Scott Darling and Mac Carruth are the goalies. Montreal's Lines: Flynn - Plekanec - Gallagher de la Rose - Mitchell - Kassian Carr - Hudon - Smith-Pelly Blanchard - Dumont - Gregoire Emelin - Petry Beaulieu - Lernout Barberio - Johnston Price Fucale Puck drop is at 7:30 on RDS and NHL Network (US only).
  3. Projected Washington Lines: Ovechkin - Kuznetsov - Oshie Chimera - Burakovsky - Williams Vrana - Roy - Brown Collins - Stephenson - Galiev Orlov - Carlson Chorney - Stanton Siegenthaler - Carrick Holtby Ellis (The defence pairings are my guess but those are the six expected to play.) Projected Montreal Lines: Eller - Galchenyuk - Semin Fleischmann - Desharnais - Weise Andrighetto - Hudon - Flynn Crisp - McCarron - Thomas Markov - Subban Tinordi - Gilbert Beaulieu - Lernout Tokarski Condon I'll add in Washington's lines when they're available. RDS only for TV for this one, there is no Washington broadcast. Puck drops shortly after 7:30.
  4. Pre-season hockey time! ATTENTION: Regardless of score at the end of the game, the teams will play a three on three overtime period to test out the new system. Eight other games tonight will be doing the same. So if you hear the game continuing after we whipped the Leafs by five goals or more, it's because we're in R&D mode. Injuries: Desharnais and Semin are expected not to play. Canadiens Roster: According to John Lu, our lines: Maple Leafs Roster: https://twitter.com/markhmasters/status/646331908977135616
  5. At noon EST, the signing frenzy will begin although it's not likely that the Habs will be a busy team today by any stretch. Let's use this thread for all the non-Hab signings/trades. On the rumour mill, there's not much involving Montreal right now. Francois Beauchemin is apparently willing to accept a 3x3 deal with the Habs but they've not yet been in contact with him. (Both of those are according to Francois Gagnon.) There's still time to enter the UFA pool to see if you can guess better than the rest of us as to who goes where: http://www.habsworld.net/2015/06/2015-free-agency-pool/
  6. The draft is finally here and rather than have the picks mixed in with all the pre-draft stuff, let's make a thread to discuss the picks and anything else interesting that may happen today and tomorrow. Montreal's Selections 26th overall 87th overall 131st overall 177th overall 207th overall Our Draft Central page has all the required pre-draft reading you'll need, profiles on some of the players who could be around when the Habs pick, our mock draft, a comparison of mock drafts, and more. Coverage begins at 7 PM on Sportsnet, TVA Sports, and NBCSN. Anyone watching in the US is fortunate enough to get McKenzie, Button, and the TSN crew while the rest of us get Damien Cox.
  7. On Saturday night, the Habs made a mark in their franchise record book, extending a series that they trailed 3-0 to a sixth game. Tonight, they look to go one step further and force a Game 7 at the Bell Centre. Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher Galchenyuk - Desharnais - Weise Prust - Eller - Parenteau de la Rose - Mitchell - Smith-Pelly Markov - Subban Emelin - Petry Beaulieu - Gilbert Price Palat - Johnson - Kucherov Killorn - Stamkos - Marchessault Paquette - Filppula - Brown Morrow - Boyle - Namestnikov Hedman - Stralman Garrison - Coburn Carle - Sustr Bishop Puck drop is at 7:30 PM on CBC, TVA Sports, and NBCSN.

Palat - Johnson - Kucherov Killorn - Stamkos - Callahan Paquette - Filppula - Brown Morrow - Boyle - Namestnikov Hedman - Stralman Garrison - Coburn Carle - Sustr Bishop Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher Galchenyuk - Desharnais - Weise Prust - Eller - Parenteau de la Rose - Mitchell - Smith-Pelly Markov - Subban Emelin - Petry Beaulieu - Gilbert Price Puck drop is at 7 PM on CBC, TVA Sports, and NBCSN.
  9. I seriously gave consideration to just posting and calling it a GDT but that's a bit too lazy on my part so here are the spinny logos (although Tampa's is an old logo) and lines at least. Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher Galchenyuk - Desharnais - Weise Prust - Eller - Parenteau de la Rose - Mitchell - Smith-Pelly Markov - Subban Emelin - Petry Gilbert - Pateryn Price Palat - Johnson - Kucherov Killorn - Stamkos - Callahan Paquette - Filppula - Brown Drouin - Boyle - Namestnikov Hedman - Stralman Garrison - Coburn Carle - Sustr Bishop Puck drop is at 7 PM on CBC, TVA Sports, and NBCSN.
  10. Well desparate times for our favourite team! Many have, with good reason, pretty much tossed in the towel and hold little hope to reach Semi-Finals; but what a sweet comeback it would be if can happen to pull it off. (again stolen from NHL.com preview) CANADIENS at LIGHTNING TV: CBC, USA, TVA Sports Tampa Bay leads best-of-7 series 2-0 Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper is more concerned about their level of desperation rather than that of the Montreal Canadiens heading into Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round at Amalie Arena on Wednesday. Tampa Bay was 32-8-1 at home on its way to finishing in second place in the Atlantic Division during the regular season, two points behind Montreal. "The mere fact that we're at home, regardless of what our regular-season record is, means nothing in Game 3 of the playoffs," Cooper said. "To us, the series is 0-0; we've got to treat it like that and understand that our desperation level has to exceed what Montreal's is." LIGHTNING VS. CANADIENS Habs' Prust apologzies for comments about ref Bolts feel need to remain more desperate team Addition of Coburn paying off for Bolts in playoffs Desharnais to join Habs, possible for Game 3 MORE SERIES COVERAGE › The Lightning won the first two games of the series at Bell Centre and have an opportunity to win their fifth game at home in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs; they split four games in their 4-3 series win against the Detroit Red Wings in the Eastern Conference First Round. "It takes four games to win a series," Tampa Bay center Tyler Johnson said. "It doesn't matter if you win two or three, you have to win four. We have a good start, obviously, but really that's all that matters. There's still more games to be played and Montreal's a great team and we can't take our foot off the gas here." Canadiens left wing Max Pacioretty is ready to draw on the positives and negatives he and his teammates learned from being in a similar 2-0 hole against the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final last year. Montreal won Game 3 at Madison Square Garden but lost the next game before losing the best-of-7 series in six games. "We hope we can learn from that experience where we went down 2-0 in our building, and yeah, we made it a series, but we weren't able to come back and win the series at the end of the day," Pacioretty said. "We've got to remember that feeling and what it took to win Game 3, and what we didn't do right to win Game 4, and that experience all comes into play now when we're looking at this series as a whole. There's time to think about it [Tuesday] night, but once we wake up [Wednesday] morning it's all about worrying about that first shift and that first period and nothing else." Defenseman P.K. Subban is confident the Canadiens can win Game 3. "That's where our focus has got to be, and after that we'll worry about everything else, but there's no doubt in my mind if we come out with the right effort we're going to like the result we're going to get," Subban said. The two previous playoff series between the teams ended in a sweep; Tampa Bay eliminated Montreal in 2004 on its way to winning the Stanley Cup, and the Canadiens swept the Lightning in the first round last year. Tampa Bay has won seven games in a row against Montreal since then, including five games during the 2014-15 regular season. "The good thing is we're due, that's the way I look at it," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said.

  14. (from NHL.com) CANADIENS at SENATORS TV: CBC, USA, TVA Sports Montreal leads best-of-7 series 3-0 The Montreal Canadiens have an opportunity Wednesday to begin the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a series sweep in consecutive years for the first time since 1987. Montreal leads its Eastern Conference First Round series against the Ottawa Senators 3-0 and can become the first team to advance in the 2015 playoffs with a win in Game 4 at Canadian Tire Centre. Canadiens goalie Carey Price would like to see Montreal get off to its best start of the series Wednesday. Ottawa has scored the first goal, and led 1-0 after the first period in each of the first three games. "We're just going to take the same approach we've taken every game," Price said after practice in Saint-Jovite, Quebec on Tuesday. "It's all about trying to get off to a good start in this next game, make a push in the first period and go from there." The Canadiens swept the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round in 2014, and went on to defeat the Boston Bruins in seven games in the second round before losing the Eastern Conference Final to the New York Rangers in six. The Canadiens, though, are not looking past a proud Senators team that went 21-3-3 through the end of the regular season to qualify for the playoffs. "We have put the first three games behind us. Yes, we're happy about the results, but we're also aware that the more we move forward, the tougher it is to win and the intensity goes up a notch every game," Montreal coach Michel Therrien said. "The games were tight, it was war in the trenches every game, but (Wednesday) is going to be the same thing." Canadiens defenseman Nathan Beaulieu will miss the rest of the series because of an upper-body injury. Rookie defenseman Greg Pateryn will make his playoff debut Wednesday. Ottawa coach Dave Cameron will insert center Zack Smith into the lineup in place of veteran David Legwand. "The biggest thing is (Smith)'s going to give us a little more speed," Cameron said. "That's the big thing that went into it." Cameron has yet to reveal who will start Game 4 in goal. Craig Anderson made 47 saves in the Senators' 2-1 overtime loss Sunday after Andrew Hammond allowed seven goals in the first two games in Montreal. Senators left wing Clarke MacArthur has scored twice, and each goal has given Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the past two games. Captain Erik Karlsson has an assist in each of the three games, though right wing Bobby Ryan does not have a point in the series. "That's what our team is," Cameron said. "We're a balanced hockey club. No disrespect to anybody on my team, but I don't know if we have a pure goal scorer in that group, so you need contributions from everybody and we got it all year. That's the reason we got in the playoffs." Ottawa successfully killed off Montreal's six power-play opportunities Sunday, but Senators defenseman Cody Ceci is wary of putting too much pressure on a penalty-killing unit that gave up 11 shots on goal. "We've been battling to stay out of the box," Ceci said. "We need to play a little more disciplined. They've have really strong power play and they get a lot of momentum from that. That's been the turning point in a couple of games. If we stay out of the box, we're a pretty even matchup."
  15. Can the Habs keep the pressure on and avoid any letdown? I like seeing Galchenyuk/Pelly with 7 shots each and Gallagher with 10. Will Markov be in the kissing mood once again? I assume will be same lineup for Habs. GHG
  16. Tonight, the Bulldogs (34-29-12-0) play the final game in their 19-year AHL history as they host the Monsters (34-29-8-4) in a battle for 9th place in the West. With the Habs off tonight and this being the last ever game with Hamilton as Montreal's affiliate, I'll toss this in the Habs Talk forum for a bit in case anyone wants to listen to the send-off. (based on +/- data from previous games) Petryk - Street - Agozzino Hamilton - Hishon - Vincour Schumacher - Smith - Ryan Cheek - Heard - Bourke Siemens - Corbett Elliott - Lauridsen Clark - Bigras Pickard Carr - Andrighetto - Thomas Tangradi - Hensick - Sorkin Crisp - Dowell - McNally Bozon - Fournier Bennett - Dietz Ellis - Lernout Shea - Didier Finley Whitney Scratches: None Injuries: Allen, Bournival, Bowman, Drewiske, Dumont, Hudon, Macenauer, Nygren, Tinordi Puck drop is at 7:00 PM EST; AM900 will have the play-by-play, click the banner below to listen.
  17. There's still a chance, albeit a slim one, for the Bulldogs (34-28-12-0) to make the postseason. To do that, they need some help...and two wins over Lake Erie (33-29-8-4) who was mathematically eliminated last night. Carr - Hudon - Andrighetto Tangradi - Dumont - Thomas Bowman - Hensick - Sorkin Fournier - Dowell - McNally Bennett - Dietz Ellis - Lernout Shea - Didier Condon Scratches: Bozon, Crisp, Finley Injuries: Allen, Bournival, Drewiske, Macenauer, Nygren, Tinordi (based on +/- data from previous games) Petryk - Street - Agozzino Hamilton - Hishon - Vincour Schumacher - Smith - Ryan Cheek - Bourke Siemens - Elliott Gervais - Geertson Clark - Bigras Corbett Aittokallio Puck drop is at 7:30 PM EST; AM900 will have the play-by-play, click the banner below to listen.
  18. Will Pacioretty or/and Stone play? From practice yesterday, Habs forwards were 67-51-21 11-14-27 25-81-22 8-17-32 No change expected on back end after well played game by most. With same effort and bit more discipline the Habs should be easy favourite to win game. But just hope is as 'entertaining' as game #1. I would expect Sens to try and be as physical as possible in 1st period and how will Habs respond? GHG
  19. (from NHL.com) SENATORS (43-26-13) at CANADIENS (50-22-10) TV: CBC, NHLN-US, TVA Season series: The Ottawa Senators won the final three of four games against the Montreal Canadiens. Ottawa rookie goalie Andrew Hammond, who won each of his two starts, began his 20-1-2 stretch run with a 4-2 win against the Canadiens in his first NHL start at Canadian Tire Centre on Feb. 18. He was in goal for a 5-2 win at Montreal on March 15. Senators captain Erik Karlsson had three goals and three assists in four games. Senators team scope: "Let's win it all," Ottawa assistant coach Mark Reeds told the players during his last visit with them. Senators general manager Bryan Murray revealed that inspirational message Tuesday after Reeds' death because of cancer at the age of 55. "We lost a good man [Tuesday]," said Murray, who himself is battling an incurable cancer. "It's supposed to be an exciting time for us, and it will be, but [Tuesday] it's very difficult for all of us that were in contact with Mark on a regular basis and worked with him and realized what a good, young man he was, and certainly passed too early." Coach Dave Cameron, his staff and players practiced with heavy hearts Tuesday, a stark contrast to the joy surrounding their 21-3-3 stretch run to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. "We kept winning, and that was huge to him, that was huge to him," Cameron said. "We talked after every game, him and I, and … huge." Karlsson, who did not practice for a second day in a row Tuesday, said he will be in the lineup. Canadiens team scope: Montreal scoring leader Max Pacioretty will not play in the series opener. The forward missed Montreal's last two games of the regular season because of an upper-body injury he sustained on April 5 when he fell backward after a hit and struck the back of his helmet against the boards. Pacioretty, who led Montreal with four goals and two assists in four games against Ottawa, practiced in a contact jersey Tuesday but did not take part in line rushes or contact drills. Defenseman Tom Gilbert is expected to return after missing six of the Canadiens' final nine regular-season games, including the last two. Gilbert sustained an upper-body injury on March 21 when he was struck in the face by a puck for a second straight game. He missed four games and returned to play three games with a clear plastic jaw protector attached to his helmet, which he continues to wear.
  20. Game #82 and Habs full roster & MVP goalie in, to try and clinch home ice with at least 1 point. Habs are 5-2-3 in last 10 Prust is playing his 82nd game of year, after most wrote him off as damaged goods end of last year; but he has done his job and seems much better shape heading to the post-season this year. Game #64 for N8 this year and I assume will be #17 for Pateryn (if Gilbert still healing?). Subban 7points in last 5 games, Markov/Petry both with 6pts and 6 game point streaks, Plekanec alos 6pts in last 5games and even Eller chipping in with 4 in last 5. Will they run Pacioretty-less streak to 3 W's?
  21. The playoff push...or the push to simply end this losing streak continues tonight and Saturday as the Bulldogs (32-27-12-0) travel to Texas for a pair of games against the Stars (36-21-13-1). Going into play today, Hamilton is 10th in the conference. Toronto is one point ahead of them for 9th with a game in hand while Milwaukee sits 8th, three points ahead of the Bulldogs. However, Hamilton has two games in hand on them which is really the only reason they're not completely dead in the water yet. Carr - Hudon - Andrighetto Tangradi - Dumont - Thomas Bowman - Hensick - Sorkin Fournier - Dowell - McNally Bennett - Dietz Ellis - Lernout Shea - Didier Condon Scratches: Bozon, Crisp, Finley Injuries: Allen, Bournival, Drewiske, Macenauer, Nygren, Tinordi (based on +/- data from previous games) Ranford - Dowling - Ritchie Hulak - Morin - Rallo Glennie - Shore - Stransky Henderson - Smith - Troock Oleksiak - Fortunus Gaunce - Honka Bystrom - Mangene Campbell Puck drop is at 8:30 PM EST; AM900 will have the play-by-play, click the banner below to listen.
  22. If the Habs lose tonight, we know who to blame as last game's GDT winner didn't post tonight's. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Helm Nyquist - Sheahan - Tatar Weiss - Andersson - Ferraro Miller - Glendening - Pulkkinen Kronwall - Ericsson DeKeyser - Quincey Smith - Zidlicky Howard Galchenyuk - Plekanec - Gallagher Smith-Pelly - Desharnais - Parenteau de la Rose - Eller - Weise Prust - Mitchell - Flynn Markov - Subban Emelin - Petry Beaulieu - Gilbert Price Puck drop is at 7:30. It's the final regional telecast of the season and can be seen on RDS, SNE, and (apparently) City Montreal.
  23. Habs beat Cats 3 of 4 times so far. Gallagher has 3g vs them. Petry is producing now, 1g each of last 3 games. Luongo supposedly resting, so get back-up guy. Price will be looking for W#42, so teammates may actually crank up the give a s*#t meter, to try and get W for him (but most likely he will need to stand on his head and be #1 star again) Hope Pateryn or Weaver are dressed, but doubt they will be.
  24. Tonight, the Bulldogs (32-26-12-0) will look to split the home-and-home set against the Comets (43-19-6-1). Going into play today, Hamilton is 9th in the conference, just one point ahead of Toronto (who has a game in hand on the Bulldogs) and three behind Milwaukee for 8th (with Hamilton having a game in hand). (based on +/- data from previous games) Shinkaruk - O'Reilly - Grenier Conacher - Friesen - Jensen Gaunce - Hamilton - Bancks Archibald - Zalewski - DeFazio Corrado - Clendening Negrin - Sanguinetti Biega - Huskins Ericsson Carr - Hudon - Andrighetto Sorkin - Dumont - Thomas Bowman - Hensick - Tangradi Fournier - Dowell - McNally Allen - Lernout Ellis - Dietz Shea - Didier Condon Scratches: Bennett, Crisp, Finley Injuries: Bournival, Drewiske, Macenauer, Nygren, Tinordi Puck drop is at 7:00 PM; AM900 will have the play-by-play, click the banner below to listen.
