post lyrics of songs that have a ton of meaning to you or that you think are powerful. Then give the meaning of the song that has been said or given to by the writer of the song, then tell what the song means to you.

I've got a lot.

U2- When I look at the World- All That You Can't Leave Behind

Written by U2 (Bono and the Edge)

When you look at the world

What is it that you see?

People find all kinds of things

That bring them to their knees

I see an expression

So clear and so true

That it changes the atmosphere

When you walk into the room

So I try to be like you

Try to feel it like you do

But without you it's no use

I can't see what you see

When I look at the world

When the night is someone else's

And you're trying to get some sleep

When your thoughts are too expensive

To ever want to keep

When there's all kinds of chaos

And everyone is walking lame

You don't even blink now, do you

Or even look away

So I try to be like you

Try to feel it like you do

But without you it's no use

I can't see what you see

When I look at the world

I can't wait any longer

I can't wait till I'm stronger

Can't wait any longer

To see what you see

When I look at the world

I'm in the waiting room

Can't see for the smoke

I think of you and your holy book

While the rest of us choke

Tell me, tell me, what do you see?

Tell me, tell me, what's wrong with me

This song is sorta religious Bono said he wrote it after meeting with the Pope.

For me this song basically feels the same way, I've had a falling out with religion over the years, seen too much bad in the world, and another image I get from the song is a depressed person looking at happy people around him or her and saying 'why is everyone so happy, when the world and life is such a mess'. I feel that a lot.

"Prime Time Deliverance" - By: Matthew Good

The red red lips

Of some secret solution

The Central Intelligence Agency

Has a file that's a mile longer than peace

She's naked on the phone

Watching them back

No eyes just their stupid grins

They long to be liberal mannequins

And in their tiny room

They eat Chinese food

And they don't call their wives

Cause the girl in the window is

Pressing her breasts

Up against the window pane

The guy they're after

On the floor below her

Is cutting cocaine

Higher than the building

A one way trip

Who ever thought she'd miss

The ins and outs of oxygen

The darkest side of the biggest God damn ride

You've ever been on

Her mother loves that show

Even though she never gets the answers right

It's easier to play along

Sometimes more than being wrong

They found her in her room

Wearing a pink bunny suit

In sour cherry lipstick

Hanging from the closet door

Her eyes were wide maybe to despise

Maybe just to look into your head light

Morning glow

And this is it, well this is it

Prime time deliverance

That you have and you hold

And you have and you hold

And you have and you hold

And you have and you hold

And you have and you hold

And you have and you hold

And she says the best thing you can do

Is hang around for a while

[A lot of things I love about this song. A lot of imagery really, and exploits some corruption ideas of suburbia in a way.]

Well, I usually find a part I like in almost every song, but full songs of great lyrics?

Well, there's

Imagine by John Lennon

how about For No One, by The Beatles.

Your day breaks, your mind aches

You find that all the words of kindness linger on

When she no longer needs you

She wakes up, she makes up

She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry

She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing

No sign of love behind the tears

Cried for no one

A love that should have lasted years!

You want her, you need her

And yet you don't believe her when she said her love is dead

You think she needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing

No sign of love behind the tears

Cried for no one

A love that should have lasted years!

You stay home, she goes out

She says that long ago she knew someone but now he's gone

She doesn't need him

Your day breaks, your mind aches

There will be time when all the things she said will fil your head

You won't forget her

And in her eyes you see nothing

No sign of love behind the tears

Cried for no one

A love that should have lasted years!

Cowboys Fringants - Plus rien

okay here's a couple:

The first song for the life in me can't figure out WHY this song was NOT on Coldplay's X&Y's album. Funny thing about the band they seem to leave there 'cooler' stuff on the b-sides. (One I Love, Things I don't Understand, X&Y, Proof, When the World Turned Upside Down, How you See the World No. 2)

Coldplay Thing's I don't Understand

How tides control the sea

And what becomes of me

How little things can slip out of your hands

How often people change

No two remain the same

Why things don't always turn out as you plan

These are things that I don't understand

Yeah these are things that I don't understand

(I can't) and I can't decide

(wrong) all my wrong from right

(day) all my day from night

(dark) all my dark from light

(I love) but I love this life

How infinite is space

And who decides your fate

Why everything will dissolve into sand

How to avoid defeat

Where truth and fiction meet

Why nothing ever turns out as you plan

These are things that I don't understand

Yeah these are things that I don't understand

(I can't) and I can't decide

(wrong) all my wrong from right

(day) all my day from night

(dark) all my dark from light

(I love) but I love this life

Pretty much sums up my feelings on life at the moment especially the first couple of lyrics about people changing (which they have in my life and sort of left me) things slipping out of your hands (these past 2 years could be summed up this way) and plan (never thought I would have 'slipped' through the cracks)

But in the end I still love this life

U2

Dirty Day- Zooropa

I don't know you

And you don't know the half of it

I had a starring role

I was the bad guy who walked out

They said be careful where you aim

'cause where you aim you just might hit

You can hold onto something so tight

You've already lost it

Dragging me down

That's not the way it used to be

You can't even remember

What I'm trying to forget

It was a dirty day

Dirty day

You're looking for explanations

I don't even understand

If you need someone to blame

Throw a rock in the air

You'll hit someone guilty

From father to son

In one life has begun

A work that's never done

Father to son

(And love...it won't last kissin' time)

[Repeat 3 times]

Get it right

There's no blood thicker than ink

Hear what I say

Nothing's simple as you think

Wake up

Some things you can't get around

I'm in you

More so when they put me in the ground

These days, days, days run away like horses over the hill

These days, days, days run away like horses over the hill...

[Repeat and fade until end]

Now the orginal version to me is utter crap, the remix, the dirty day junk mix is a hard electronic song that sounds like crashing symbols very creepy. This song is again about religion and how Bono has had a falling out. But I see the song as almost an urban waste land. When I think of this song I think of Chernobyl. Look up pictures of Chernobyl and then play this song in the background and its really eerie. This song would be a great song in an futuristic waste land movie like a blade runner. This song is very creepy, very angry, and simply awesome 90's U2 (the remix is the best the original is a bit strange)

Who the f***k is alice by smokie- its sick it means a lot to me cos the song came out around the time my gran who was called alice died- it cheered me up in a way- loss of life does crazy things to people.

Sally called when she got the word,

She said: "I suppose you've heard -

About Alice".

Well I rushed to the window,

And I looked outside,

But I could hardly believe my eyes -

As a big limousine rolled up

Into Alice's drive...

Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,

Or where she's gonna go,

I guess she's got her reasons,

But I just don't want to know,

'Cos for twenty-four years

I've been living next door to Alice.

Alice, who the ###### is Alice

Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,

To tell her how I'm feeling, maybe get a second glance,

Now I've got to get used to not living next door to Alice...

Alice, who the ###### is Alice

Grew up together,

Two kids in the park,

Carved our initials,

Deep in the bark,

Me and Alice.

Now she walks through the door,

With her head held high,

Just for a moment, I caught her eye,

As a big limousine pulled slowly

Out of Alice's drive.

Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,

Or where she's gonna go,

I guess she's got her reasons,

But I just don't want to know,

'Cos for twenty-four years

I've been living next door to Alice.

Alice, who the ###### is Alice

Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,

To tell her how I'm feeling, maybe get a second glance,

Now I gotta get used to not living next door to Alice...

Alice, who the ###### is Alice

Sally called back, asked how I felt,

She said: "I know how to help -

Get over Alice".

She said: "Now Alice is gone,

But I'm still here,

You know I've been waiting

For twenty-four years..."

And the big limousine disappeared...

I don't know why she's leaving,

Or where she's gonna go,

I guess she's got her reasons,

But I just don't want to know,

'Cos for twenty-four years

I've been living next door to Alice.

Alice, who the ###### is Alice

Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,

To tell her how I feel, and maybe get a second glance,

But I'll never get used to not living next door to Alice...

Alice, who the ###### is Alice

Now I'll never get used to not living next door to Alice...

"Wide Awake"

You can a look a hurricane right in the eye.

1200 people dead or left to die.

Follow the leaders, were it an eye for an eye we'd all be blind.

Deaf or murdered, and this I'm sure in this uncertain time.

So come pull the sheet over my eyes

So I can sleep tonight

Despite what I've seen today.

I found you guilty of a crime, of sleeping at a time

When you should have been wide awake.

Down on the road the world is floating by.

The poor and undefended left behind.

While you're somewhere trading lives for oil,

As if the whole world were blind, hey.

So come pull the sheet over my eyes

So I can sleep tonight

Despite what I've seen today.

I found you guilty of a crime of sleeping at a time

When you should have been wide awake.

Come pull the sheet over my eyes

So I can sleep tonight

Despite what I've seen today

I found you guilty of a crime of sleeping at a time

When you should have been wide awake

Wide awake! Wide awake! Wide awake! Wide awake!

I find this Audioslave song compelling because of its American political commentary, and it also happens to be a very good song musically (which always helps).

Cowboys Fringants - Plus rien

what a beautiful song !!

Here's another one

Imagine there's no Heaven

It's easy if you try

No hell below us

Above us only sky

Imagine all the people

Living for today

Imagine there's no countries

It isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one

Father and Son - Cat Stevens

Father

Its not time to make a change,

Just relax, take it easy.

Youre still young, thats your fault,

Theres so much you have to know.

Find a girl, settle down,

If you want you can marry.

Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy,

To be calm when youve found something going on.

But take your time, think a lot,

Why, think of everything youve got.

For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son

How can I try to explain, when I do he turns away again.

Its always been the same, same old story.

From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen.

Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.

I know I have to go.

Father

Its not time to make a change,

Just sit down, take it slowly.

Youre still young, thats your fault,

Theres so much you have to go through.

Find a girl, settle down,

If you want you can marry.

Look at me, I am old, but Im happy.

(son-- away away away, I know I have to

Make this decision alone - no)

Son

All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside,

Its hard, but its harder to ignore it.

If they were right, Id agree, but its them you know not me.

Now theres a way and I know that I have to go away.

I know I have to go.

That's song with both hope and despair.

The hope comes from lines like 'living life in peace', 'sharing all the world', and the other 'dreamer' statements. I'm not putting down the dreamer aspect of the song because 'without a dream, a people perish' - a dream is crucial to the way we look at ourselves and what's around us.

The despair comes from 'no heaven/no hell' 'people living for today'. I expect that many will disagree but, those among us who've studied philosophy and comparative religions will recognize that man has struggled with personal meaning and with mortality & immortality. Now, one may say with Karl Marx that "Religion is the opium of the people" but its pervasiveness is a STRONG INDICATION of the concerns surrounding personal meaning and mortality/immortality.

*********************************************

Now, here's a song that, for me deals with foundational issues...

Ashley Cleveland's song 'You Are There' on her album LESSON OF LOVE.

There are so many words that I can't hear

In the poverty of my soul

Till the light pooled in my true love's tears.

Now I know.

If I will crawl up out of this barren land

Then I will crawl up on my own.

I won't ride the shoulders of any man

But I am not alone.

CHORUS:

Where I cannot lift my eyes, You are there

Where I cannot find my way, You are there

Where I cannot hold my tongue, You are there

Where I have no prayer, You are there

It's a lot like snakes & ladders

I get swallowed every time.

Trying to reach for something better

And find a peace that's mine.

But I can't give myself a good talking to

And I can't fool this bitter pain.

I'd like to quit this cave I'm walking through

But the past remains.

CHORUS

I want to talk about resolution.

I want to tie up every loose string.

Tear down the institutions

And lay hold of greater things.

Oh, where can I run from Your presence

For you know my path so well.

If I should rise up into the Heavens

Or make my bed in Hell.

CHORUS

It's worth a good listen to so try a temporary download. If I knew how to stick a soundfile in this email (if it's possible), I'd put the song in for you.

GO :hlogo: GO!

Echoes ( PINK FLOYD )

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air

And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves

The echo of a distant tide

Comes willowing across the sand

And everything is green and submarine

And no one showed us to the land

And no one knows the wheres or whys

But something stirs and

Something tries

And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street

By chance two separate glances meet

And I am you and what I see is me

And do I take you by the hand

And lead you through the land

And help me understand the best I can

And no one calls us to the land

And no one crosses there alive

And no one speaks

And no one tries

And no one flies around the sun

And now this is the day you fall

Upon my waking eyes

Inviting and inciting me to rise

And through the window in the wall

Comes streaming in on sunlight wings

A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no one sings me lullabies

And no one makes me close my eyes

So I throw the windows wide

And call to you across the sky.

The ultimate song about being broken hearted and then finding the soul mate.

God's Away On Business

Tom Waits

I'd sell your heart to the junkman baby

For a buck, for a buck

If you're looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch

You're out of luck, you're out of luck

Ship is sinking

The ship is sinking

The ship is sinking

There's a leak, there's a leak in the boiler room

The poor, the lame, the blind

Who are the ones that we kept in charge?

Killers, thieves and lawyers

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

Digging up the dead with a shovel and a pick

It's a job, it's a job

Bloody moon rising with a plague and a flood

Join the mob, join the mob

It's all over, it's all over

It's all over

There's a leak, there's a leak in the boiler room

The poor, the lame, the blind

Who are the ones that we kept in charge?

Killers, thieves and lawyers

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

God's away, God's away on business, business

Godddamn there's always such a big temptation

To be good, to be good

There's always free cheddar in a mousetrap, baby

It's a deal, it's a deal

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

I narrow my eyes like a coin slot baby

Let her ring, let her ring

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

God's away, God's away

God's away on business, business

Dis-donc camarade soleil

Tu ne trouves pas

Que c'est plutôt con

De donner une journée pareille

À un patron?

So good, so true.

Champions of Nothing by Matthew Good

When Hollywood runs out of Indians

When the bar stars melt and their golden hair turns into glass

When Hollywood runs out of Indians

When the bubble bursts and the first are come for by the last

There's something in the way you move

Makes me catch a cold

There's something in your "too cool for school"

When you slide up and down my pole

There's something in the way you look

That only casts a shadow

When Hollywood runs out of Indians

Only the Indians will know

A kick in the head, pass it around

Begging for a bed, pass it around

Pass it around

And I'd say what you'd say

It makes me feel nothing

There's a car waiting to take me to something

At the end of my rope there's

A new world, it's snowing

The globe it starts shaking

Is it me not worth knowing?

The white coats are melting

The snow down our mountains

To process the rivers for hallways, and fountains

And I'd say what you'd say

But it makes me feel nothing

Til there's a man waiting to take me to something

That I'm for

Hell

It looks red in all it's pictures

My sisters sing laments

While their skin blisters

(take your time, take your time, take your time)

Halleluiahs

Offered down on the floor

Nobody goes above decks

No, not no more

They say the sun is still shining

That you can feel it in your core

But I ain't seen nobody move

That weren't going for the door

And I'd say what you'd say

Champions of nothing

But there's a car waiting to take me to something

At the end of my rope

There's a new world, it's glowing

The globe it starts shaking

Was it you not worth knowing?

The white coats are melting

The snow down our mountains

To process the rivers for hallways, and fountains

And I'd say what you'd say

But it makes me feel nothing

Til there's a man waiting to take me something

That I'm for...

This one always gets me.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?

The Lord took her away from me

She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good

So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

We were out on a date in my daddy's car

We hadn't driven very far

There in the road, up straight ahead

A car was stalled, the engine was dead

I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right

I'll never forget the sound that night

The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass

The painful scream that I heard last.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?

The Lord took her away from me

She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good

So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

When I woke up, the rain was pourin' down

There were people standing all around

Something warm rollin' through my eyes

But somehow I found my baby that night

I lifted her head, she looked at me and said

"Hold me darling just a little while."

I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss

I found the love that I knew I would miss

But now she's gone, even though I hold her tight

I lost my love, my life that night.

Oh, where oh where can my baby be?

The Lord took her away from me

She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good

So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

Oooh~ ooooh~

I picked up Incredibad today by The Lonely Island, this song in particular makes me laugh.

I'm On A Boat

The Lonely Island feat. T-Pain

Aww shit, get your towels ready it's about to go down (shorty, yeah)

Everybody in the place hit the f*cking deck (shorty, yeah)

But stay on your motherf*cking toes

We running this, let's go

I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)

I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)

Everybody look at me 'cause I'm sailing on a boat (sailing on a boat)

I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)

I'm on a boat

Take a good hard look at the motherf*cking boat (boat, yeah)

I'm on a boat motherf*cker take a look at me

Straight flowing on a boat on the deep blue sea

Busting five knots, wind whipping out my coat

You can't stop me m*ther######er cause I'm on a boat

Take a picture, trick (trick)

I'm on a boat, bitch (bitch)

We drinking Santana champ,

Cause it's so crisp (crisp)

I got my swim trunks

And my flippie-floppies

I'm flipping burgers, you at Kinko's

Straight flipping copies

I'm riding on a dolphin, doing flips and shit

The dolphin's splashing, getting everybody all wet

But this ain't Seaworld, this is real as it gets

I'm on a boat, motherf*cker, don't you ever forget

I'm on a boat and

It's going fast and

I got a nautical themed

pashmina afghan

I'm the king of the world

On a boat like Leo

If you're on the shore,

then you're sure not me-oh

Get the f*ck up, this boat is REAL!!!

###### land, I'm on a boat, motherf*cker (motherf*cker)

###### trees, I climb buoys, motherf*cker (motherf*cker)

I'm on the deck with my boys, motherf*cker (yeah)

This boat engine make noise, motherf*cker

Hey ma, if you could see me now (see me now)

Arms spread wide on the starboard bow (starboard bow)

Gonna fly this boat to the moon somehow (moon somehow)

Like Kevin Garnett, anything is possible

Yeah, never thought I'd be on a boat

It's a big blue watery road (yeah)

Poseidon

Look at me, oh (all hands on deck)

Never thought I'd see the day

When a big boat coming my way

Believe me when I say

I f*cked a mermaid

I'm on a boat

I'm on a boat

Everybody look at me 'cause I'm sailing on a boat (woaah)

I'm on a boat

I'm on a boat

Take a good hard look at the mothaf*ckin' boat (sha-sha-shorty, shorty, yeah)

The music

makes it even funnier.

I'm On A Boat

The Lonely Island feat. T-Pain

Aww shit, get your towels ready it's about to go down (shorty, yeah)

Everybody in the place hit the f*cking deck (shorty, yeah)

But stay on your motherf*cking toes

We running this, let's go

I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)

I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)

Everybody look at me 'cause I'm sailing on a boat (sailing on a boat)

I'm on a boat (I'm on a boat)

I'm on a boat

Take a good hard look at the motherf*cking boat (boat, yeah)

I'm on a boat motherf*cker take a look at me

Straight flowing on a boat on the deep blue sea

Busting five knots, wind whipping out my coat

You can't stop me m*ther######er cause I'm on a boat

Take a picture, trick (trick)

I'm on a boat, bitch (bitch)

We drinking Santana champ,

Cause it's so crisp (crisp)

I got my swim trunks

And my flippie-floppies

I'm flipping burgers, you at Kinko's

Straight flipping copies

I'm riding on a dolphin, doing flips and shit

The dolphin's splashing, getting everybody all wet

But this ain't Seaworld, this is real as it gets

I'm on a boat, motherf*cker, don't you ever forget

I'm on a boat and

It's going fast and

I got a nautical themed

pashmina afghan

I'm the king of the world

On a boat like Leo

If you're on the shore,

then you're sure not me-oh

Get the f*ck up, this boat is REAL!!!

###### land, I'm on a boat, motherf*cker (motherf*cker)

###### trees, I climb buoys, motherf*cker (motherf*cker)

I'm on the deck with my boys, motherf*cker (yeah)

This boat engine make noise, motherf*cker

Hey ma, if you could see me now (see me now)

Arms spread wide on the starboard bow (starboard bow)

Gonna fly this boat to the moon somehow (moon somehow)

Like Kevin Garnett, anything is possible

Yeah, never thought I'd be on a boat

It's a big blue watery road (yeah)

Poseidon

Look at me, oh (all hands on deck)

Never thought I'd see the day

When a big boat coming my way

Believe me when I say

I f*cked a mermaid

I'm on a boat

I'm on a boat

Everybody look at me 'cause I'm sailing on a boat (woaah)

I'm on a boat

I'm on a boat

Take a good hard look at the mothaf*ckin' boat (sha-sha-shorty, shorty, yeah)

The music

makes it even funnier.

OMFG !!!! When I first read this post back on feb 10 or so, I thought you picked a random T-Pain song and didn't know what was The Lonely Islands, but then I saw Jizz In my pants and Dick in a box, AND finally this video (didn't notice it in your post).

I really love these guys !!!

Haha, yeah, I was loving the album at the time but I over listened to it. Great comedy album though, the Natalie Portman rap is great and I really like "Who said we're wack?". I posted that song in an HWL thread, forget which one. The lyrics are funny but the guys can still rap and the beats are pretty good (better then anything DJ Khaled has laid down and thats who they're making fun of with "I'm On A Boat")

This guy has uploaded every song from the album if you want to check out other ones.
