Have you got the significant other looked after for this celebration of love....

or do you think it is just a big over rated ripoff?

I think it's a ripoff and fortunately I have a wife who agrees - at the cost of flowers and dinner on this day I''d need a second mortgage.... B)

Hallmark Day.

I told my wife long, long ago (before we were married) that I didn't pander to this crap. I express my love for her everyday, and I don't need a day set aside by a few companies for me to express it. I told her that the day she feels I need Hallmark Day to express myself is the day she should realize our relationship is going to pot (not THAT kind, Maca).

The only reason I see for a day like this is for those who have to look around them at the people they know who might be lonely and then offer something small so those people can realize that they aren't alone.

Funny how much the guys seem to hate the commercialism of it - any of the ladies have an opinion that differs?

Personally I think it is a crass rip off - and I'm glad my wife feels the same.

I was in the mall earlier and was watching the poor schmucks going through the card section (90% men) and was watching them squirm. One guy was so rattled looking at the cards, I thought the poor dude was going to have a stroke.... probably some love struck spouse/partner at home who was waiting on pins & needles for the card & gift! And he looked like he never does get it right.... the way he was fidgeting it looked like his balls were already in a sling!!!!!:rolleyes::unsure::(

A snippet of conversation this morning:

Me: Happy Valentine's Day!

Wife: Happy Valentine's Day! I didn't get you a card.

Me: Good - I didn't get you one either.

Very romantic.

The holiday is fine, but...

A guy who truly loves his girl won't wait for a special occasion such as this one to do something to demonstrate his affection/appreciation. In my view, Valentine's day is just like any other. I won't love my girl "more" just because it's the 14th of february. I can try to "show" it, but even then, i'd rather "show" it to her every day of every month rather than "save up" for one special occasion. You make the occasion special.

I celebrated today.

What I do you ask? I went to school and almost lost my face to the artic winds here in Montreal. I then did the same thing on my way home but stopped off at the Video store and rented the movie "Idiocracy" staring Luke Wilson to watch w/ my gf. Not bad movie, but not great.

The rest is history.
