alexstream
Why is it a good news? Cause he was playing without any drive and that could have hurt us in these 2-3 weeks run for the playoffs... He'll come right in time for the playoffs and the very last stretch, time at which he will just jump in the wave and surf with the others... Obviously this is all wishful thinking. Now, call up Kostytsyn at last!
brobin
Yeah, we are a better team without Kovalev.....
alexstream
Yeah, we are a better team without Kovalev..... right now, I'd say yes. without him we are a more unite team... and in adversity we need unity.
kaos
Unfortunatley it makes him all but untradeable at the deadline. I thought he might have been a nice pickup at the deadline for a contending team. And considering Nagy snagged a 1st Rd pick in return, it might have been a nice return for the Canadiens. As well, it owuld have freed up over $4 million dollars. So really this isn't good news at all

JoeLassister
right now, I'd say yes. without him we are a more unite team... and in adversity we need unity. Oh i'm so please to see how Murray add some unity to the team. Unfortunatley it makes him all but untradeable at the deadline. kaos
I think he's as tradeable as Sammy. I don't think so. I think Kovalev had alot of value. If Nagy fetches a 1st Rd pick, Kovalev is worth atleast that and then some.
Prime Minister Koivu
Unfortunatley it makes him all but untradeable at the deadline. As well, it owuld have freed up over $4 million dollars. So really this isn't good news at all Have to agree.....I was hoping/expecting Kovalev to be traded this season. Oh well, if we make the playoffs Kovalev will be a great help.
brobin
right now, I'd say yes. without him we are a more unite team... and in adversity we need unity. I watched the last two games without him. They were even less of an offensive threat. They didn't look better, or more united. Hell, Koivu is playing far worse then Kovy right now. Did you see the looks he got from the bench after his stupid hooking penalty last night? This team is not united, but it isn't about Kovalev, its the entire team. OneSharpMarble
I can't wait to trade him, hopefully he isnt injured and they are just sidelining him while lining him up for a trade. I think he could be moved, we wont get much for him but it would free up space needed to sign someone in the offseason. Losing Kovalev will be the biggest step to healing this team. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I don't buy this 'addition by subtraction' math, never did. You don't get better by losing Kovalev. You get better by replacing him with a better player. Do we have such a player? Maybe Kostityn, but anyone who relies on rookies to improve a team is lulu. The most likely consequence of this is to deprive us even more spectacularly of any seconday scoring at all. But I agree that Kovy had some trade value and that he should have been among the assets that Gainey planned to move at deadline. So this sucks in every conceivable way. habsfan88
Kovalev gone = good news? I beg to differ...sure sometime it appears that he is half assing it but he is one of the only players who can shoot the puck on this team. This is bad news! gohabsgo252006
Definitely not good news, but it's time to bring up Kosty full time and say goodbye to Garth. And if they don't call up Kosty and decide instead to play with Niinimaa on the second line I will personally hunt them down and HURT them
sbhatt
The past two games, our powerplay has looked worse than it has all season. Kovalev was the key to that powerplay...the guy that could keep a checker focused on him long enough to let pointmen (mainly Souray) get set up in a spot they could tee it up from. Not to mention he was the only habs capable of pulling off moves that brought me to the edge of my seat with any regularity (maybe Higgins will do it more often now?). The Habs entertainment value AND their chances of winning have taken a big hit. It just keeps getting worse.
lazy26
The only way I can interpret this as good news is to draw a parallel with Ottawa's team this year. The situations aren't identical, but for a while, Ottawa was playing brutally, and underachieving in a big way. Throw in some key injuries, and all of a sudden it seems like bad has gotten worse. Funny thing, Ottawa starts winning... and as their injured players come back, they fit in seemlessly, and become even more of a threat. Unfortunately, I must point out that Emery began standing on his head at that point as well. But other than that, Montreal *might* be in the same boat, and produce similar results. This is what I'm hoping, anyway. One other point: Bob has never let an injury prevent him from dealing someone. Also, this might be what pushes him to pull the trigger on a deal. As always, GO HABS GO!
brboo
Our powerplay is going to suffer. Not that it hasen't been aleady. What i want to know though is how did it go from missing practice but will play against the panthers. To questionable for the next game (vs the devils). Now he's out 3 weeks. Mr. Nasty
I'd take Kovalev over about 3/4 of the rest of the forwards. This is awful for the Habs offence. Kovy may be underperforming but he is the teams 2nd most productive forward for a team desperate for offense. He was also the only guy that can carry the puck into the offensive zone and not lose it on the powerplay. This is terrible news.
GOHABSGO22
Power play doesn't look good without Kovy!!! The Habs are going to have lots of trouble scoring in the next three weeks.
sbhatt
This may be what puts the nail in the coffin.
Talon
And who can they honestly call up? Kostitsyn flew home to be with his girlfriend who is having a baby...and Grab's is hurt. Milroy?
rafikz
Trade coming up ; we need a sesasoned scorer ; and I'm not talking about Kovalev (I don't think u can trade an injured player)
Talon
and I'm not talking about Kovalev (I don't think u can trade an injured player) Gainey traded Theo last season while he was on the IR.
rafikz
Gainey traded Theo last season while he was on the IR. ok then ; but I hop they trade Kovalev ; on the other hand, Saku "penalties" Koivu.....
JMMR
Chnage the name of the thread. Kovalev injured is not good news even when he is not playing his best other teams are affaraid of what he can do. Kovalev is the 2nd most important part of the Power Play set up. Oh well I hope he heels fast and comes back to a team in a SECURE playoff spot.
BTH
Awful but then again, Kostitsyn may get his chance and Kovalev may put on another show for when he returns.
