The original plan was for him to play there this year and come to the U. of Minnesota next season, but one of the Gophers best defensemen, Nate Hagemo had his career ended due to a shoulder injury, I think. He missed most of the year with an injury, but since returning to action has been terrific. From Manitoba and draft eligible this year. Has averaged nearly 2 points per game since he returned, and turned a mediocre team completely around. Smallish centre (5-11, 175), but he has really caught the attention of the college scouts and recently committed to Denver U. for the upcoming season. bobby Posted March 9, 2007 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Some rumors swirling about the Hunter brothers, who have been so successful in London, taking over management of the Philadelphia Flyers. That might impact the draft since they know Kane and Gagner so well. With all the prospects they have in their system now, along with some extra draft picks, the Hunters might try to maneuver the draft to get both Kane AND Gagner. bobby Posted March 9, 2007 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Kyle Turris picked up 4 assists tonight as Burnaby won their 3rd straight BCHL opening round playoff game. He has 10 points in 3 playoff games. Kyle could end up playing a lot of games this year if Burnaby goes to the Royal Bank Cup again. Tier II juniors are a bit different in that they don't have long regular seasons (60 games approx.), but the best teams can play another 30-40 post season games before they are done. Turris has played 56 games so far this season and has 137 points. But the last half of this season he has been putting up Paul Kariya numbers in the BCHL, averaging about 3 points per game. Missed most of the 7th and deciding game with a charleyhorse he picked up early in the game, or the Burnaby Express would probably have knocked off the league leaders in the semi final round. Amazingly, that is the first time Kyle had missed any game action due to injury in his entire career. He still came out on one leg in the dying minutes of the game to try to get the tying goal. Pretty amazing for a guy who is 165 pounds, playing against players a few years older for the most part, and getting gooned on a regular basis. I think he is pretty much a lock for the top pick. He is off to the World Under 18 Tournament next. Should be interesting to watch him go up against Van Reimsdyck, Cherepanov, and a few other of the top rated players in the draft. It takes them a week locked together in the same room to work it all out. Some good comments from McGuire the Head of NHL Scouting on this years draft as well.
