Dang, if the Rangers could have won in regulation the Islanders would have been eliminated.

Carolina is now eliminated, I believe, as they can at best tie Montreal, but Montreal has the tie breaker.

Pretty sure that Montreal can clinch with one more win.

Yes! Islanders wins in shootout. They are still (barely) alive

TB 44-32-4 92

NYR 41-29-10 92

HABS 42-32-6 90

--

TOR 39-30-11 89

NYI 37-30-31 86

E-CAR 39-33-8 86

All teams have 2 games left to play, excepted the islanders who have 3

Why is the Islanders winning a good thing? A NYR win would have clinched for them, and they almost assuredly would have started Lundqvist. If the Islanders had lost, there would be one less team trying to catch us.

Islanders play the Leafs next Thursday, thats why it's a good thing that they are still in the race :)

I hope that the Islanders win! That would kill the Leafs!

So? A loss would have eliminated them tonight. They still would want to beat Toronto, as they would want to play spoiler to everyone else trying to make the playoffs. Now the Habs will likely have to face Lundqvist AND the Islanders aren't eliminated.

Best case scenario: NYI beat Toronto on Thursday and Montreal beats NYR. This eliminates Toronto. Then if Philadelphia beats NYI Saturday afternoon, the Islanders are eliminated. This would allow Montreal to play Huet in a meaningless game against Toronto to see how he does back in game action.

mm yes it would had

With a loss they would had been 36-31-12 for 84 points with 3 games left to play, the best they could had made is 39-31-12 90, which means loosing the win tie breaker to MTL if they loose their last 2 games

Here is the situation. If we win either of our final games NYI can't catch us. Even if we get 2 overtime losses they can't catch us. The Islanders are not a serious worry. If we get at least 1 more point than T.O. on Thursday then Toronto can't catch us. Thus we clinch a spot if we win Thursday and Toronto doesn't.

On the other hand, no matter what happens Thursday we will have a chance to qualify for the playoffs on Saturday (if we aren't already in).

Ah yes, true. If the Habs and Islanders both win on Thursday, the Habs clinch. I was having trouble visualizing the situations without the updated standings last night.

heres another possibility while a little unlikely.

should Atlanta and the rangers lose both of their last games in regulation while we win both of ours we'd be 6th and could take revenge for what tampa made us suffer 3 years ago.
