Streit for Masterton?

Recommended Posts

How does he get the nod from the Habs over Koivu? Streit played hard all season - great, but really, big deal. Koivu overcame a fearful eye-gouging that continues to cause him problems on and off the ice, and went on to post numbers that tie his career best. Is there some rule saying you can't win the Masterton twice, or what?

I'd have to say I totally agree with you... I think a lot of ppl have forgotten just how much Koivu's overcome this season, and in a strange way, because he overcame cancer in the past, it's like anything else he goes through doesn't get treated like it's a hardship for him or a big deal, because hey, the guy overcame cancer, you know? It's kind of unfair to him because I'm sure it's still hard to deal with the stuff he's dealt with since... I would have definitely said Koivu deserved it more. If anyone else had gone through the eye thing last year and played the way he has this year, it would have been talked about all season.

You can not win the masterson trophy more than once so why would they nominate him!

Haha. Yeah, you can only win the award once, so Koivu cannot be nominated again after winning it. He would be a sure win considering his comeback from the eye injury, but I mean, that seems like nothing compared to the cancer really.

I think I remember Koivu saying something along the lines of, "With cancer you're in danger of losing your life, but with an eye injury, you can retire and find other means of living out the rest of your life."

Maybe a bit off topic, but just thought I'd mention that one as it came to mind.

This award wasn't meant to go to the athlete with the most tragic year. Who would want to accept an award like that? It's not right to nominate guys just because a family member died.

I agree BTH but tragedy has a lot to do with perseverance. You are correct though just because you lost a family member should not make you the PERFECT choice for an award, it would make the award curse like and no one would ever want to win it or even talk about it.

The front runner for Masterton should be Sean Avery, great accomplishment for a guy with no brain :P

hmmm.......... that's possible, you know...

GO :hlogo: GO!
