SoCalHab
well I guess I was born a day before yesterday, then. are the fans chanting: bullshit, bullshit ?? great stuff !!! Yeah, I think they are...........probably realizing that the Leafs wouldn't get that far into the playoffs again during their lifetime. beliveau1
Yeah, I think they are...........probably realizing that the Leafs wouldn't get that far into the playoffs again during their lifetime. One of the few instances you'll see of an opposition player having an influence in calming a player down - Robinson displayed great sportsmanship and class at that time. He has just scored a big goal and has every right to celebrate. In fact to forget about Williams and his temper tantrum - but he was willing to get involved in what was about to become an ugly scene. Whatever he said seemed to help calm Williams down, and he was awfully angry at that time! He probably helped save Tiger from a lengthy suspension the next year? "Win with class; Lose with dignity....." It was the theme we reinforced over and over as coaches on every team we had through the years = because there is nothing worse than a poor winner! JMMR
That was amazing what Robinson did, what a class act. Makes me very proud to be a Canadiens fan.

Leafs came back from 4-0 with their backup Paul Harrison in that game to tie it and send it to overtime. Back then it was kind of chintzy to call a penalty in OT, but even if they did not call it they were just delaying the inevitable. The Leafs were far outclassed by the 3 time champs. Funny Robinson calmed Tiger Williams down, but in the 70's nobody ######ed with the Big Bird. He kicked the snot out of Schultz! Probably why Tiger settled down. I remember Robinson's coming of age - it was a devastating hit he laid on Gary Doernhoefer of the Flyers, in Philly if I remember right? Hit him so hard it broke the boards - they had to hold the game up while rink staff fixed the supports behind the spot he nailed him..... That hit did a lot to take the steam out of Philadelphia's reputation as the Broad Street Bullies? However I don't think it was his toughness that settled Tiger down - he was just able to control him and calm him down with help from a couple of veteran Leafs. Pure sportsmanship & class! The Habs' version of the shot heard around the world, I guess.
beliveau1
That's funny - my dad told me about that hit, too. The Habs' version of the shot heard around the world, I guess. That was one vicious hit. It was clean but man was it hard. Heard Doernhoefer talk about it many years later - he said he definitely got his ass plastered to the boards on that one. Said it was a clean hit and that it was the hardest one he ever saw or experienced? I'd have to say that hit was Robinson's statement of arrival - he was now a presence to be very aware of..... p.s. today he'd have had his face introduced to an ad closeup...... VIAGRA? Strummerman
What saddens me is the sight of the last great dynasty of the habs. If only they could become young again. Who was Number 20? Cam Connors? Edited April 7, 2007 by Strummerman

Engblom) for the opening face off a playoff series against the Flyers! BIG MESSAGE DELIVERED!!!!!! Edited April 9, 2007 by beliveau1
