What design should Price have on his mask?

Recommended Posts

Start a new trend completely.

Leave the road mask white (blank) and get pure white pads.

And get a solid red mask for home games and get matching solid red pads.

I know he won't break in new equipment for that purpose, but it might be ugly enough to distract opposing players.

Seriously though.... I can't imagine the new design not being ready in the next few weeks (something to do with the habs history is my bet)

He should have a picture of Bob Barker beating the crap out of Adam Sandler in a Bruins Uniform.

He got it today.

It actually looks pretty lame

The best masks are ones that reflect a nickname or a theme. Cujo's looked good and it fit even though a dog has nothing to do with the Leafs, same with Belfour who had the Eagle's. But the Habs goalies always have something similar.

Roy's looked good, and ever since then it has been a blue mask with the logo and some lame airbrush on the sides.

T-Bo had the right idea, a jacques plante tribute. Just very poor execution.

The worst one I saw was last season when Ward put Nickleback with some bad Hurricane swooshes. BRUTAL!!

Goalies now put way to much shit on their masks. I like the simplistic shapes of the 80's like Murray Bannerman, or Steve Baker. Or 90's greats like Patrick Roy (Habs) and Mike Richter

These were actually designed and not just a bunch of bad ideas thrown together.

WTF does a rodeo have to do with the Montreal Canadiens? Why merge them together?

Why not go with one central theme?

How did that conversation go?

Hey Carey what do you want on your mask?

Canadiens logo

What else?

I don't know

Well, what do you like?

I like Bull Riders

Ok, I will put a Bull Rider with a Canadiens logo and throw in some gradients and shadows

Sounds good

Why not just put a raging Bull on the mask? To simple?

Rant complete ^_^

In my opinion, it looks kind of cool having "HABS" on the mask instead of some nickname...Its better to represent the team. Also, Price probably doesnt have any cool nicknames so he just decided to go with that lol

As a rookie Price doesn't and shouldn't put a nickname on. Imagine a rookie putting like "The Eagle" on their mask, that is cocky IMO that is whata vetwho has proved himself should do.

Anyways. I like the mask, too plain though, but I love "HABS" on the front, that is TEAM SPIRIT! :hlogo:

His mask is ok. I think the large "HABS" looks a little corny, but asside from that, it's an ok mask.

Huet's got the best out of the recent Halak/Danis/Theodore/Huet/Price

Can't beat the forum ghosts :)

I liked Roy's and Hackett's masks the best, out of all the goalies in recent history. I think Price's mask looks good though. The big :hlogo: on the top is probably a little tribute to Roy.

By the way, he's already said he put the bullrider because he's from Western Canada. Just thought I'd mention that because it seems like people are arguing that he put it because he likes bulls or something.

I think Price should put whatever the heck he wants on his mask. If we don't like it... tough.

I think Carbo should put whoever he wants on the ice and if we don't like it tough.

It's a message board! People come here to shoot the shit about topics they enjoy.

As far as I am concerned some comments are insightful, some are stupid, but all are welcome

Agreed. But I think that there's a big difference between criticizing line combinations (which can be objectively measured and judged) and berating Price's design choices (which is subjective and a matter of personal preference). I was just expressing MY opinion.

Didn't mean to offend anyone. My apologies if I did.

The way I look at is this....I am criticizing it as a professional Designer. Does it mean I am right?

No, But I have an education in Design, Colour, Composition, Art Direction. If you disagree with my assessment, I don't really care.

It is not an attack on Price, it is a critique of the artist. Carey could probably care less.

But I am willing to bet that close to 100% of the people who criticize Carbo are NOT NHL players, are NOT NHL GMs and are NOT NHL Coaches.

And are not in every practice, not in the dressing room and not privy to team discussions.

Whose criticism is educated?

So I agree with you. There is a huge difference

I think you misunderstand both of my posts, and are reading too much into what I have posted.

In no way did I imply that one had to have an educated opinion in order to criticize something. The difference that I was referring to in this situation is that certain things can be evaluated objectively, whereas some things can't, and are instead judged subjectively. I'm sure you can, as a pro designer, boil artistic things to their elements, but I think most people (I could be wrong) judge based on what they like or don't like... a subjective judgement, if you will. This type of conclusion doesn't lack merit, but in my opinion, isn't as concrete as hockey statistics, which I previously used as an example.

You seemed to have inferred that I meant that we are all hockey experts, which is not the case. I'm not sure how you arrived at that point.

In any case, I was not specifically responding to what you had posted, but to certain posts in this thread, which I felt were criticizing Price for not putting what he/she wanted on his mask. I'm sorry you seem have taken this as an insult, and perhaps I should have chosen my wording more carefully. I was merely defending Price's right to have what he wants on his mask, and was NOT belittling any opinions to the contrary.

Hope this clears things up.

I am not trying to belittle anybody's opinion. In my opinion the artist did a terrible job. Price could play with a white mask if he chooses.

My comments were mostly a rant against the lack of creativity in today's goalie masks. Something that used to be so colourful have

regressed to goalies painting Nickleback on their mask??

The opportunities today are so much greater than the beginning when Chico Resch had a college student paint it by hand.

http://www.onlinesports.com/pages/I,FRP-16...PPC-_-FRP-16862

It is mainly dissappointment in that Price's mask is average at best. When they are done properly they can become a piece of art and or/iconic.

I guess I am saying that less is more. I also understand that most people don't care like I do.

I stated that I dislike it, and posted the reasons why. Some agree, some don't. I do not look down on those who view it in a positive light.

Some are defensive, but I am not attacking anybody. Maybe the guy who painted it might take offense to my critique, but I am not immune to

crtitcism in my business either. I try not to take anything personal on this board, sometimes it is hard.

In this case I did not.

I encourage everybody to speak their mind and am happy they do.

These boards are a great place for insight, that is not rehash of the same bullshit that the Local and national media constantly regurgitate.

Consider it cleared up :)

Excellent. ^_^

Wasn't it Esche that had Kid Rock on his mask last year? IMO, that's even worse than Nickelback!
