I'm left scratching my head with your comments as well. Nobody is blaming anybody. I don't feel we missed Kovy last night, the boys really stepped their game up. Old Kovalev for sure would have helped but the Kovy we've been watching lately was not missed at all.

Last night was a step in the right direction, Pleks was awesome, Higgins looked like he meant it and the power play?

NICE!!!!!

I just hope the boys keep working hard and get over the hump. The goals scored were not skill goals but hard work rewards, if they keep it up they'll get confident again........ if not they'll continue to fall apart.

As far as Kovy in the shoot-out? I'm afraid to say if he played last night there would not have been a shoot-out. We would have lost.

I agree with everything you just said. The Old Kovy could have helped us last night, but the Kovy that we've been seeing for the past month would not have helped one bit!

Let's hope the Boys can win tonight, and show Kovy that they can win without him...maybe it'll light a fire under his ass!

I can't complain about last night's game, Arguably they should have gotten the extra point. Koivu, Pleks and Lapierre all had quality chances near the end of the game and didn't finish. Not too many teams will beat Washington in shootouts with that talent.

Nice to see a nearly 60 minute effort, as others stated, the first was tough, but Price held them in there and they got better as the game wore on. Know one really stuck on either way for me, players were overall good and played hard, they actually even won some battles.

So if they continue to play like that, things should turn around.

3 things that are very apparant

1.Other then Koivu, the habs can't win important faceoffs.

2. The defense is incredibly slow footed, and continue to turn over the puck (Komi)

3. Dumb penalties continue.

I think Kovalev's days are done, move him for a 4th line centre who can win faceoffs. Tanguay should take Higgins spot on the the first line, move higgins back with Lapierre and Kosto. Put Stewart with Laraque and a centre either chipchura or trade for someone. I would try to move Dandy and Begin to see what you can get.

Higgins is on the block or reportedly on the block because of too many LW on the roster.

at the time before AK27 vacation you had

Tanguay

AK46

Lats

Begin

Pacioretty

Higgins

Stewart

They have all played this year on LW

AK46 seems better molded to the RW.

Plus he MAY BE a contributing factor to all the partying and drugs allegadly. Price is the meal ticket, you need to keep him away from the party guys, the other was sent to Hamilton. I wonder how popular he is down there.

One thing is certain, the roster will still have to change. We've got Tangs, Lats, Kovy and Begin on the sidelines. And apparently Sergei K was assured by Gainey he'd be back in the NHL sooner rather than later.

Lats & Tangs are sure to knock someone out of the lineup when they're back. I'm thinking Lats knock Stewart out by taking his old place with Laps & Kosto. Then Tangs knocks Chips out by coming back at C. Does Kovy comes back or not? Does Sergei K comes back too? That'd be an entire line right there. 74-13-27

Hard to say, i think from what i saw last night Begin, Dandy, Kovalev are pretty much just spare parts and could be moved without any problem to the roster. I obviously don't know anything about them in the locker room or whatever but they have Stewart and Chipchura to take those 4th line linutes.

Agreed that AK46 is better suited for the RW. He was flying out there last night and looked like our most talented forward by a mile.

It's certainly an unstable situation. I think Dandy is there to stay. Carbo likes him more than Begin, that much is certain. And Dandy was one of the few (2, 3?) guys who showed up during the entire West Coast debacle. As a 4th line checking guy with limited ice-time, he's as good as Stew and better than Chips.

Begin really look like he's being phased out of the team's plans.

Kovy is in limbo right now, could come back with the team or could be gone somewhere else. Hard to say. If he's back, who does he play with? I dont want to see him with Plex & Kosty ever again. We saw last night that those two are better off without him. Dago & Kosto take the other 2 RW spots. There's 1 RW spot left and it's Laraque's. Say what you want about BGL, I like having him patrol the 4th line. He can do the 4th line checking job.

Yea, there are alot of spare parts around. So you might as well play the players who give an effort.

I agree with you on having GL patrolling the 4th line, he does his job, forechecks, etc. The penalty was a pretty soft call last night i thought.

The team last night can score enough to keep them in the hunt, many of the best players are 25 and younger for the forwards.

The D really needs a major makeover, they are very slow and soft. Adding 2 or 3 new D will certainly help next year and beyound. Emelin, Weber are close. Subban and McDonagh are a couple of years awaym fisher can become a solid 5 or 6. All those guys are goods skaters.

Yep. I prefered the team's configuration last night. Save for the 4th line that was a little too slow, the other 3 lines were flying. Granted, it's easier against the Caps to play a up-and-down style, but I liked what I saw. 67-14-46 were dangerous, 70-40-6 were doing a great checking job and shutdown Ovie's line. Having 84 in place of 70 will add offense upside to that line. 21 & 36 were also flying, they just need a C that has legs that can keep up. That's why I'd rather see Tanguay than Koivu there. Not to rag on Koivu more than I already did, but aside from faceoffs he's increasingly innefective in the rest of the game, especially 5-on-5. As a PK & PP specialist, he's ok. Otherwise, not so much.

Gorges & Bouillon are the weak link defensively. I know they're liked because they have such big hearts, but they have a hard time winning 1-on-1 battles anymore. Team could use an upgrade there.

Kovalev looks like he should be a great shootout player, but his career record is nothing special. Koivu would have been a better choice for the #2 shot, but that's hindsight.

Markov has better numbers in the shootout this year.. he was at 50 percent prior to that attempt...

You won't be saying that when he sleeps with your wife. ;)

He was pretty great all around, kinda like a Hamrlik with a better passing and shooting. And say what you want about Hamrlik and even Komi's pass, but you have to hand to to Ovechkin. If it was anyone else...

Is it just me or Schneider was the best player on the ice yesterday? I may still be wearing my "Schneider-coloured" glasses though :P

He was good. Hopefully he can teach the rest of the D-men how to pass the puck to an opened teammate when pressured. Seems he's the only D to know how.

And his shot from the point is just what the doctor ordered.

Most of them seem to pass to the forward who is completely covered. :)

BOUILLON, not Gorges is the weak link defensively. No contest there.

This subject came up in another thread. Players sleeping with teammates wives. I don't remmber anyone mentioning RicharD Martin Sleeping with Guilbert Perreaults wife in Buffalo or Iafrate sleeping with Leemans wife in Toronto ( or vice versa). Or Broduer banging his wifes sister....thast hot

MFT77, you've been riding Bouillon for months now. We know your position on the matter.

But since he got his bell rungs, Gorges is back to his 7th D ways. Can't do sh*t...
