Gregory Stewart is afraid to fight?

"Afraid" might not be the word. "Has forgotten to" would be more appropriate.

In any case, Moen means Pacioretty & Stewart will need to fight for the last LW spot, and it also tells Lats he needs to step in a more offensive role.

I'm guessing:

Camaro - Gomer - Gee

Tender - Plex - Big ####

T-Mo - Mad Max - D'Ago

Pacman - Metro - BGL

Marky - Gros Gill

Hammer - Spaceman

Afternoon Delight - Slosh Josh/O'Burned

and the winner of most annoying nicknames goes to...

sorry dude...couldn't resist.

Do you really think Gill plays with Markov? I just can't see it, I think he gets limited ice time.

Maybe more like:

Markov-Mara

Hamrlik-Spacek

Gorges-Gill

Judging by tax brackets, I think Gill is ahead of Mara in the depth chart.

I'm also guessing they got Mara to have a D who can rush the puck on each pair.

As for the nicknames... I forgot to mention that Stewie, Chipper, Little #### , Bennie Max, Spidey, Sub-Zero and MaCar.

Sorry, must be the fresh paint fumes...

Perhaps salary is the deciding factor, but i doubt it. It will be very interesting to watch this team next season, particularly with a new coach who will likely demand that his forwards limit the gap between themselves and the D, as puck possession coaches tend to do. This might really make some of our "lower line" guys appear much stronger than they have in the past few seasons. I am thinking specifically about Gorges on D and Lapierre and the 3rd and 4th lines up front.

Mara's a quality signing, especially at that rate. I remember John Torterella on TSN saying that he used to have a problem with Mara - but that he had really learned to play with some balls and was now a quality player. High praise from a hardass like that, so we may have a really valuable pick-up here. With him and Gill we now have a much more balanced blueline than we did. Good stuff

Mara will make us forget about Komi, I'm 100% sure of that. (well maybe everyone but Habsfan will forget about Komi :P)

besides the overestimated Komi (just so as not to hurt Habsfan)

our D has GREATLY improved.

Mara IMO is more reliable than Komi and if one things has more offensive upside. It's like putting Begin's yapper, Bouillon's offense and reliabilty and Komi's size and toughness in the blender... it gives you a Mara-shake... lol

Spacek is as good as Schneids, but is way way more reliable and also... younger! (lmao)

Gill is a Pylon, but if paired with safe-guy Gorges, we won't have any problem there. Gorges is not the type to put his partner in trouble...

Thanks dude! ;)

True, I will not forget Komi anytime soon, but I have to say, I really like this acquisition by Bob. I always thought Paul Mara was a stable d-man, but more importantly, he will add size to this team. We desperately need it! Even though Mara isn'T the toughest S.O.B. out there, at 6'4" and 220 pds, our blue line is starting to look pretty "big". The fact that he's only 29 years old and making approx 1.9 million$ is a bonus!!

Well either way, I'm just happy we have D's to chose from that can log 1st line ice-time. Didnt have any options before.

And now I just read that Martin said he's not sure he'll put Cammalleri, Gomez and Gionta together. Says he dont like the lack of size of that line. In his words: "It appears as though the 1st LW spot is up for grabs". If he wants a big LW on the 1st line, hhe's basically setting up a fight between Latendresse and Pacioretty because he doesnt really have anyopne else that fits the describtion. And he said he doesnt even know yet weither he'll use Cammalleri on the left or right. Probably because he dont have any big RW either to use with Cammalleri-Plekanec. Unless he keeps Camm on the LW and gives him Lapierre for center.

Latendresse - Gomez - Gionta

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Cammalleri

Moen - Lapierre - A. Kostitsyn

Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta

Cammalleri - Lapierre - A. Kositsyn

Latendresse - Plekanec - D'Agostini

Did you also hear Martin say that he prefers to think of forwards as 2 man units with the 3rd man being a compliment depending on need e.g. size, energy, etc...

I think that bodes well for Lats and Pac - also cool to hear that Pac was already talking about the opportunity on the big team for a power forward on the top lines. we could use some young gun to really challenge next season.

And again - not to nitpick - but I like Stewart and never really though of him as afraid or forgetting how to drop the mits.

ok

im screaming third line (more like plan b for 2nd line)

Moen- Lapierre- Lats (lats should be a right winger when in full development just like his idol Bertuzzi once was) if they cant score they will smack the shit out of the opposing D and wingers

GREAT pick-ups by Gainey. Exactly what this team needed.

During the duck cup run, I remember Moen in every game being a tough s.o.b. and having an excellent understanding of what he was supposed to do: hit, grind, drive, wear the opposition down while being superior to them on the ice. I'm very happy about him.

Mara could be a real gem, he'll be playing with a suddenly very solid d corps and has people and a system that will cover him. Can skate, pass, is a big body (though plays small) and most important he has bumped Gorges and Gill to the third pairing, and possibly O'Byrne off the team (depending on Weber / Carle / Subban, or maybe a throw in to a Plex trade?).

It was interesting to read both of their comments, Moen saying (through RDS) that what we are witnessing is the foundation of a Cup championship team.

Support this philosophy over chaotic juggling, coach keeps a couple of guys together then experiments with a banger / defensive specialist / go to the net guy in the third spot as needed. This allows the main pair to develop chemistry.

I second the motion to have Latendresse back on the RW. He's more comfortable there. That's where he played in junior. He sees the play much better from the RW, and he's more efficient at leaning on D's and protecting the puck to shoot when on the right side. He's not a natural on the LW. But that would also leave no room for D'Agostini or S.Kostitsyn

If I was Martin...

Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta > Pac is fast enough to keep up, does the dirty work in the corners, is an underrated passer.

Cammalleri - Plekanec - A. Kostitsyn > Hoping Cammalleri rubs off on AKost.

Chipchura/D'Agostini/S.Kostitsyn - Lapierre - Latendresse > Move Lats to RW where he can generate more offense, open up the LW for contention on who clicks best.

Moen - Metropolit - Laraque > sandpaper, smarts & smiles.

Could it be too much changes and it will take 3-4 months before they play like a team?

That is definitely possible. With sooooo many changes, it might take a few months before our guys mesh together!

So. Bob bought (and traded for) small and skilled top talent, then put in a supporting cast of big, projectable (Mara), mean and Burke-like.

And for that, we lost Komi - who would have taken a couple of those new roster spots with his salary, a few aging stars, and McD.

Looking better by the minute. This is a lunchbucket team. My kinda team. Only a shame that Saku couldn't have had this kind of support when he was younger and healthier.

AAAAH I wanna see if this team is a winner or loser. I have high hopes but Im also thinking alot about the old Rangers signing all stars and still missing the playoffs year after year. Could it be too much changes and it will take 3-4 months before they play like a team?

no, cause it's not big headed superstars.

no kovalev, jagr, gaborik.

it's just regular hard working stars.

that's what i like.

nothing flashy.

just efficiency.

no, they ain't gaborik.

but when things count, you want a guy who will listen to the coach. when things count, you want doug gilmour, you don't want jagr.

+1.

I have high hopes for this kid. He's only 22 years old and will be starting his 4th full season. I don't think it would be asking too much from him to score 20 goals this season(if he can remain healthy)! 20 Goals and 20 assists would be a nice step forward for Guillaume!

Can anyone give me a brief description of what kind of player Travis Moen is!?

And now the grandest question of all: how long until this group gets comfortable together? Lots of new faces, fortunately Bob pulled together two, at least, who had experience together.

20 games.

Kosto, but winning fights, is mostly what I heard all day.

I'd just like Lats to be the player he can be; or that he was in juniors. I understand that coming into the NHL at 19, the staff had to toss most of his offensive game aside to teach him how to play without the puck; and Guillaume being the coachable player that he is followed the program.

Now it's time to tell him that he can let loose and just play his natural offensive game: lean on D's to create space for himself to shoot or pass. He's a very underrated passer, got better vision than typical shooting powerforwards have (same for Pacioretty). I'm not sure what Martin has in store for him, but the only player Martin ever had that compared to Latendresse in terms of size and raw skills are Jokinen and Horton. Just nudging Lats closer to those two players would be a great improvement.

Moen: Better on the puck than Kosto - not great, but better. Better skater too. Takes up a lot of space in corners and hits like a mo-fo. And a beast in the ring. The cliche about going to war applies to him 100%.

My concern isnt really if he's better on the puck than Kosto; is he better with the puck?
