I really like Metropolit as a 4th line centre ( & 5-on-3 PP specialist ) but I think his time here is done.

I dunno. The Habs might hang onto him for his right-handed faceoff ability.

True. And if we ever need the right shot for the one-timer on the 5-on-3, this is our guy.

I'd love to see Chips stick with the big club this year, but I'm not confident that he will. Hopefully he's worked on his faceoffs.

His skill is truly unparalleled in that department.

he'd have to be on the 1st 3 lines, let alone make the team, to be considered future captain.

I hopehe knows it's his last chance.

all he needs to do is move his feet a bit quicker and win his freakin faceofss !!

At least he is signed. But if doesn't crack the lineup, doesn't he have to pass through waivers to be recalled???

Maybe Chipchura is still a future Habs Captain!

I really like his play, so I'm hoping Kyle can earn a spot and stick around this year.

Waivers to go down, but I don't think waivers to go up, I don't think his accumulated NHL/AHL experience exceeds the requirements.

By the way, RDS is saying he signed for the league minimum...not sure if I buy that just yet. I knew he'd reject his QO which was two-way to take a one-way contract at a cheaper cap hit, but that's one heckuva pay cut if true.

L'entente lui rapportera 500 000 dollars.

Once I get confirmation on the deal, I'll edit the cap article on the main page to spew out some new projections...what fun that will be...

I've seen a couple more sources saying $500,000 (what a deal), so I've now updated the cap situation article.

(I'll update the contracts page later on today...)

Wow. That is dirt cheap. Let's hope Chips sticks.

I prefer him on the line up with 4th line duties and PK specialist than let's say

D'agostini who has no ability on forechecking and defense. I like D'Agostini, but

not a 4th line role.

Stewart for me his done with the addition of Moen.

Same role but Moen gives it every night.

My fourth line is Moen-Metropolit-Chipchura. No Big Georges he is still hurt, will miss the camp

all over again.

Moen can play a 3 third line guy but i really wish Paccioretti brings it out at the

camp and play with Lapierre and Latendresse then it would be our 2b line.

i still think bob well make a trade, and try to dump a couple of players, i think its going to be later in the summer when other teams still need to fill out their team...chipchura as made it so that it be crazy not to keep him just for cap reasons...or for a team not to take him in a package because it would give them cap room..

i hope we keep him..iam a be fan of him and hope he brings his A game this year...he as great leadership and is a winner, sound like he should fit in with the new guys well

It's no coincidence that the top faceoff guys in the NHL are generally long time veterans. Pittsburgh's young centres are still not strong at the faceoff circle. It's an experience thing. Chipchura's problem was that he didn't bring enough of a game in other areas to excuse his faceoff problems.

I think there's a 4th line wing job that he could take. Him and Stewart definitely look to be battling for that spot, and if Laraque is hurt you can thrown Alex Henry into the mix as well (who has played wing at the NHL level in the past, though he's a natural D). He can be eased into a permanent centre spot by taking the draws that require a LHer and Metro will take the ones that require a RHer.

$500k is good for our cap hit. Glad Kyle saw it as an opporutnity. He definitely didn't have a lot of leverage, given the fact that he didn't finish the year with the big team like Stewart did.

Chips is playing ball. Taking a low cap hit on a one year deal puts him in the GMs good books for sure. Provided his preseason play is NHL calibre, he's pretty much guaranteed himself a spot on the team with the chance to make more money next offseason. He's coming in with something to prove and really looking to make himself part of the team for awhile.

Might explain why he's having so much trouble sticking with the Habs.

Colin brilliant.

I completely agree here.. Chips has the potential to bring amazing stability to a line and the team. He has proven he has great hockey sense and defensive qualities. He is all about leadership and team building. He did so brilliantly with the Bulldogs all the way to the Championship; witnessed it with my own eyes and I was impressed...

But that's where it ends., he was not able to bring his game to a new level in the NHL. But lets give him a break, 13 games and a limited role on a team with leadership issues and utter confusion from one night to another, does not allow him to prove his capabilities or prove his abilities at the NHL level ( forming some sort of chemistry on a line/team takes time ). The team needs to give him a role that he can play up! That being said, he needs to bring his A game to the team, put on some size this summer, work on the skating which I have noticed is improving, play with authority and improve his faceoff's (at the NHL level) and step up and into the defensive role he is capable of... (even I agree he will not turn into a prolific 100 point scoring machine like my all time fav. Mats Nasland )

During the cup run and the AHL championship, he was Coach Lever's go to guy for a change in momentum or a good defensive checking line. He was great @ neutralizing the offensive line of the opponent and was absolutely solid in his own end. These qualities and many more that he poses, need to be realized in the NHL.

Gainey has made it clear with a one year contract; Chips needs to prove it to the Canadiens and "himself" and this will be his year to deliver and I'm sure Chips has taken the challenge agreeing to the minimum for the team! He is a team FIRST kinda player and I hope his leadership will develop at the NHL level and for this edition of the Habs and be rewarded with his next contract.

GO HABS GO!
