Habs Offseason Moves

At first that was my opinion but if true (and I have reason to believe it is), this could be a good thing. Trotter has to clear waivers this season and really doesn't have a fit with the way the roster is shaping up. If the alternative is lose him on waivers (some suggest to Tampa) or to the KHL, I'll take the latter as the Habs still hold Trotter's rights that way (until he's 27). It's a 1 year deal worth around $250k, let him go play at a higher level and re-evaluate the situation next season. He has proven enough in Hamilton, let's see if this brings him closer to taking the next step to crack Montreal's roster in 2011-12.

I love the difference in perspective. Russian players that go back get ripped and are called greedy. Yet it's a good thing when not americans go to the KHL. Having said that I doubt the penguin or goat what have given him a real chance and he probably is better of developing in the KHL. Cunneyworth's comments have me scared - really scared at the development of our prospects.

Huh?

Should have been "penguin and the goat" aka Martin and Gauthier.

What comments? Where was that posted?

I think the comments he is referring to is where Cunneyworth states that he will implement the same gameplan in Hamilton that Martin employs in Montreal.

They are different scenarios though. When a Russian goes back, it's typically for the duration (or at least more than one year). Trotter's deal is a 1 year pact. He had nothing left to prove in the AHL and wasn't going to crack Montreal's roster in all likelihood. Most figure he would have been claimed off waivers though, so this is a case of getting to keep a player's rights when the Habs probably would have lost them otherwise. The KHL is a step up from the AHL, hopefully playing against better competition helps him take that next step so that he will be ready for Montreal in 2011-12.

Of course, he could just choose to stay out there but we won't know that for a while yet. Right now, this seems temporary while Russian players bolting is closer to permanent, that's the big difference to me.

Riga is my favourite KHL team. They don't have a single Russian on their roster... just Latvians and foreigners. It'd be like if the Habs didn't have an Anglophone on their team. It's hilarious... and the Latvians just play supporting roles to the foreigners (Swedes, Americans, Canadians, Czechs/Slovaks) as a result. It'd be a lot of fun to play a season in Riga, the fans are insane.

That said, Trotter should've made the team this year IMO. We could've used his RH shot after losing Metropolit from the PP unit. This move probably means one of Maxwell or Pacioretty will make the team.

My projected lines are:

Cammy - Plek - AK46

Gionta - Gomez - Pouliot

Laps - Eller - Moen

White - Pyatt - Boyd

The positions might not be correct, but I suspect Maxwell and Pax might be sent to the minors (if they can) to get more playing time than alsorans on the 4th line/press box.

Forgot about White. I think the other two (MaxPac and Maxwell) are ahead of him based on how Martin used them last year, but he's a legit possibility as well. All are still waiver free and have two way contracts, so may the best man win.

That said, I still wouldn't mind if they signed Eric Belanger.

Why I thought White would get the nod above Maxwell and Pax, is White is 3rd/4th line material, I see Maxwell and Pax being top 2 lines in the future, I'm a big fan of NOT putting scorer type players into grinder roles.

Speculations aside (that trotter went merely to the KHL so the habs dont risk losing him if he doesnt make the cut), has made me quite upset and nervous with regards to the management of our prospect assets... (including the departed coaching staff from Hamilton)

Why Corvina? If anything, this gave me greater hope...Trotter gets better competition, we have no threat of losing him to the waiver wire, and maintain his rights for seasons to come.

I'm disappointed if he felt he wouldn't get a real shot this year. That's either his own assessment or what Gauthier/Martin told him in negotiations. $250k isn't a lot of money, he would make more in the NHL if he made it quite easily.

Again, it depends on how much Price will eat up. I guess if Belanger won't sign for under $2m, it's not likely, but man we could really use a faceoff specialist on this team.

Bring back No-panic Yanic! ^_^

I really think the roster is complete for now. They will evaluate the young guns at training camp and adjust if required.

Enjoy summer time :B) , have a beer :D and let's wait up for October :hlogo: ...

If that is the case then yes i agree its a wise move... I hope it isnt because Trotter and other prospects aren't trusting the Habs to move more than one up next season

I'm surprised no one's brought this up, but the purged scouts have been replaced:

At face value this is good news, assuaging any fears that the Habs were just cutting costs under the new regime. :hlogo: And nice to hear from Serge Boivert, a player I took a small shine to back in the 1980s but who just couldn't overcome the size problem.

Louis Leblanc signs a 3 year, entry level deal with the Habs and will report to the QMJHL's Montreal Junior. As long as he doesn't play in 9 NHL games, his contract will slide back a year (as was done for Phillipe Levebvre, Robert Mayer, and Ian Schultz).
