Habs77
The initial "top 10 get in & 7-10 play an extra round" formula was incorrect. They are now saying that there will be more divisional games, and the 10 teams making the playoffs will be: - top 2 of each division - plus 4 remaining teams with most points (aka wildcards) That makes more sense, this version puts even more emphasis on divisional rivalries... whereas the initial TSN report was eliminating them altogether. I like it.
Tony_
Bob MacKenzie and Pierre McGuire are douche bags. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Habsfan21
I like McKenzie, but McGuire is a prick.
Psycing
I like both... lol. *Shrug*... I dunno... can we hear about getting a new CBA done?... all this is meaningless untill then... just my opinion.
Fanpuck33_
Wait a second, there are 6 divisions, meaning 12 teams make it based on position in their division, plus 4 "wild card" teams and they are back to 16 teams, not 10.

It's 10 teams per conference that will make it in: - top 2 of each of the 3 divisions in the conference - plus top 4 wilcards, who will play an extra playoff round... "7 vs 10" and "8 vs 9" Same thing in each conference... gives you 20 teams in the playoffs.
Fanpuck33_
Ah, then it's still an awful system. As has been said by others, it rewards mediocrity. Rewarding teams in such a way in the bottom half of the league is ridiculous.
Leafs Suck
Thats actually not too bad of a system. However I'd rather see them go back to 4 divisions. First place team gets a buy to the division final, and 2 plays 3.

Rewarding teams in such a way in the bottom half of the league is ridiculous. Not to mention if you finish in the bottom half you are already rewarded with better draft picks than the higher placed teams. Suddenly being an average team doesn't seem too bad. Why spend money on high priced talent when you can stay quasi-competitive and make playoff money for years?
Quebecois
It doesnt really change my opinion. I'd still rather see them reduce teams that make it to the playoffs if they are going to make a change. But right now, with 30 teams, 8 teams per conference is the way to go.
habsfan11
I like the idea of 20 teams in the playoffs. 16 out of 30 ist not enough. 16 oft 20 or 16 of 24 was ok, but not 16 of 30. That ist is just a little more than half of the teams in the playoffs. So the first 2 of each divison plus 4 more in each conference is good! Cadian
plus side is that they are agreeing on something... If it is a step in bringing back hockey.. I will take it.

With the current system more than half the NHL teams make the playoffs, that is already plenty.
