DON
Squid?? No thanks, creeps me out to think of him coming back. We really don't need a cream-puff like him, just dosent get any softer lazy player than that.
dlbalr
Well now from the rumours, Philly is willing to eat part of his salary (cap hit 4.5 million) Briere is only one year but does not fit the team and costs 4.0 million per year. What the heck we like old has beens in Montreal, we have Briere don't we? Vinny is also only 34 so his is not a 35+ contract. I know it is not going to happen I was just suprised because every time he has come free or even if he has an 11 year contract for a billion dollars there is always someone who wants to bring him to Montreal. This time not a word. Apparently he wants to go to florida, can't really see that happening either. Philly picks up 1/2 his salary we have him for 4 years at 9 million and lose Briere, that almost sounds good. Is Philly going to take a $2.25 M cap hit and retain 50% though? I doubt it. They'll have to hold back something but I think there's a team that would take him at $3.5 M. I think Florida actually seems like a good fit. His family obviously likes it in that area and the Panthers are looking to add some veterans.
Machine of Loving Grace
Florida is definitely a good location for Lecavalier. Especially since in my brain the Panthers will be moving to Quebec in a few years.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Lecavalier is a C. We don't need that. The end. I'd take Cammy back in a flash - leading scorer two playoffs in a row, remember?? - but not at the cap hit he is likely to command. And then there is the "smurf" issue. I agree with DON. A 40-50 point Higgins-like UFA (hi, there, Jokinen) is a far wiser way to go than thinking in terms of core-shaking fantasy deals.
Lovett's Magnatones
Florida is definitely a good location for Lecavalier. Especially since in my brain the Panthers will be moving to Quebec in a few years. That gets brought up a lot, and it's not a bad idea, but it's never going to happen. Whoever owns the Cats owns the BB and T, in Fat Lauderdale, a major market for conerts. They get the top talent on the circuit from Abba to Rianna. While the team might lost millions the owners make out well. What's happened in the past behind the scenes is that they get owners who want the deal for that revenue and not the team. There's a deal in the works to build a casino adjacent to the property, making more money for the owners. The Panthers have been in bed for year via subsidies from the Broward County Tourism department, they owe extensive moneys, and the Cats are contracted to be there for what I believe is ten more years. For whatever reason (bribes) the Panthers have a super majority with the county's elected officials who write them check after check for everything from the Rat Pack kids to Ed Jovanovski's victory lap. Trizzak
If you're in the "Trade Briere" camp, it should be noted that with the cap going up, few RFA's deserving of big raises and with Buffalo giving Leino a compliance buyout, the Sabres might need to take on salary just to get to the cap floor. Briere could waive his NMC since he has history with the city, would get top 6 minutes, and would probably get traded to a contender at the deadline. Basically it's a win-win-win... IF you think Briere should be traded.

They may not be the most ideal destination but they'll have pretty much more money than anyone to spend which likely will get the attention of a few notable names. Failing that, Briere could be an option.
Machine of Loving Grace
Campbell wants out of Florida (maybe) and Buffalo would both like him back and be able to take his full salary. Makes more sense. Heck maybe they take both but I still want Briere in the playoffs.
JGC21
Briere for Jagr straight up.
dlbalr
Briere for Jagr straight up. Why does New Jersey do this? They just re-signed Jagr not that long ago and he was by far the better player last year. Part of their pitch to highly sought after UFA Jiri Sekac is the chance to play on an all-Czech line (with Elias).
nihilz
Gudbranson, 1st overall & 143rd pick. Beaulieu, Fucale, the 26th & 125th picks.
DON
Drop Gudbranson, change Beaulieu to Gallagher and may have a deal.

They have Luongo signed until three presidents from now. Gudbranson has three seasons under his belt. So basically, for two lousy picks, a junior prospect and a current AHLer, we get a solid #2-4 and a potential franchise player? With a pick thrown on top?!?!They would have a hard time getting Gudbranson for those four pieces.
Habsfan
Gudbranson, 1st overall & 143rd pick. Beaulieu, Fucale, the 26th & 125th picks. Why in the world would Florida make this deal? It makes no sense... The first overall pick is worth more than Beaulieu, Fucale and our two picks... let's be honest here, As much as I like Beaulieu, he hasn't done anything yet... Neech
Plekanec, Gorges, Fucale + minor pieces (i.e. Prust, Moen, Tokarski, Pateryn, mid-round pick) to Winnipeg for Kane + minor pieces Winniped acquires two solid vets to give their fanbase a sniff of playoff hockey, along with a top prospect. We'd potentially get a top line winger for the next ten years. Bergevin seems like a strong personality who's ready to handle the like. We'd have to sign a free agent defenseman as well. DON
Cant tell if you are serious, but you know is very unrealistic. This is the Habs not Philly. Bergevin is not gonna totally reshape a lineup that was just in final 4. If had of missed playoffs, maybe would do some wheeling/dealing but aint the case. Some minor deals maybe, sign a UFA or deal for a high 1st round pick, but not trading Tomas & Gorges.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Spot on, DON. MB is looking for the team to get stronger from within: for Patches to become a more consistent playoff producer, for PK and Galy to continue to blossom, for Beaulieu and Tinordi to evolve into regulars, etc.. And of course he's looking to fill the void on the wings, but almost certainly by adding W who are "good fits" in terms of team identity and salary structure. I will fall on the floor with amazement if he blows up the core of this team.
Neech
Pleks and Gorges are core guys at the moment, but in two or three years I'm not sure if that's the case. This move looks to the future, while also filling a present-day hole. We need top-tier talent to contend, and you don't get that without giving up value. Pleks and Gorges aren't as essential for the development of the youth, like Markov is, and when I think of our 'core', it's our young guys, the oldest being Price. Plekanec is a fine player who I'd hate to see leave, but this is about talent and age and the chance of truly being a contender some day. We'll be a decent team again next year with a chance at a playoff run if we sit on our hands and hope for improvement from within, but the fact remains that our forward lines do not stack up well with other top teams. The only way to remedy that is by trading players we actually like.

Kane is a bit of a head case but maybe if he comes to a controlled professional organizaation it could work. You also can't give them fucale and tokarski. Don't see MB making this move but an interesting scenario.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
It's not an insane idea, just very high-risk. We'd be upgrading at W and leaving two huge holes at C and D. If Eller can step up and do what Pleks does then we might be able to get away with it (although Gorges is the kind of guy you don't appreciate until he's gone, and our D is imperfect enough as it is). I suppose the point is that we don't seem to be in a position that calls for such a dangerous, swing-for-the-fences move.
Jeff Price (no relation)
I don't understand the knocking of Briere. He was a big reason we got as far as we did in the playoffs. Without him, we would have taken another game or two to finish off Tampa, and lose to Boston. He was clutch, and reliable at both ends of the ice. KoRP
I don't think Briere was that bad last year either, just never had much ice time all year, with decent offensive players, and not enough ice time at center.
