OK, fair enough. My short reading on Hutton just didn't impress me greatly.

Remember, I’m not saying he’s anything great. He had a very good rookie season, but fitness and ‘character’ issues cost him the coaches’ trust and he only clawed back into the good books last season, when if memory serves he was de facto top 4 on one of the league’s worst bluelines. But he did OK IMHO. He’s worth taking a flyer on given his improvement last year, his youth, and his profile as a puck moving LD.

EDIT: I’d be curious to see his advanced stats from last year compared with Benn’s. Any takers? 😎

EDIT again: mixed reviews here - seems fair https://canucksarmy.com/2019/03/28/the-arguments-for-and-against-trading-ben-hutton/

The reported ask is 2 years at $4 million per season.  Vegas is offering 2 years at $2 million per year.

2nd and 4th rounder get him?

I wonder if a 10.4 million by 5 year offer sheet would get it done?

I think we should bite the bullet and offer Mariner 12 million by 5 years (more term if he is willing) and give up 4 firsts. We have the strongest prospect pool that we have had in decades. Now is the time to be bold and the chances of drafting a Mariner calibre player in later first rounds is slim.

I personally think a scorer (Laine) rather than a playmaker (Marner) would be a better fit for us. We have playmakers already, but putting the puck in the net is a challenge at times.

My thought is that Winnipeg doesn't even entertain such an offer.

They would need to get some kind of help for their current team, far more than just Juulsen.

That’s what I figured. Who goes back from our forward group?

I'd have to think Drouin would be involved.

Though of course it would be Drouin ++

I think Drouin + Juulsen + prospects is a start.

Drouin actually scored more points last season than Laine did, but I don't really know how well he would fit Winnipeg's needs.

Drouin and Ehlers reunited could be intriguing to Winnipeg...

Don't they need d-men more?

And this must be 150th proposal for Drouin to be sent packing.

Well he is the best trade piece for both having value and me not caring much if he’s gone hahah

The need for Dmen is assuming they are keeping Laine (and Connor).  With Laine out they need a winger for their top 6 as well as D.

The ++ would need to be dmen.

Drouin, Juulsen and then something else....

I would rather MB swing a deal for Connor over Laine.

WIN: Drouin, Juulsen and pick?

MTL: Connor

or is that too much?

Why do you think they would ask for or accept Drouin? And not a cheaper better player like Gallagher?

I think drouin has a great contract relative ro his production. I don't know that I would rush ro trade him unless it was for a significant upgrade.

Honestly, I was not proposing Drouin bcuz I dislike his play but rather more bcuz of the value of his play.

I think Drouin would be a player that Jets would most def want back and I ain't giving up Domi so Drouin, sry Don

edit:

but you are right in some sense I'll give you that and yup I think Connor would be a better player then Drouin, is true too

They'll need a LW to replace Laine
Drouin has chemistry with Ehlers in Junior.
Drouin is cost controlled for longer than Gallagher, Gallagher will be a free agent sooner.
Drouin actually had more points than both Gallagher and Laine last year.

Last I don't think Montreal is going to want to give Gallagher.

I must be in the minority of people that want to keep Drouin, I think he is a big piece of our core moving forward. He is on a relatively cheap contract for what he currently produces combined with his potential. Plus I just enjoy watching him play

How long can a guy have potential?

6 mill for 50-60 points is a high number, he doesn't bring anything else to the table.

It's 5.5 million in a province where .5 extra goes to taxes. Very reasonable contract for 50 to 60 points in today's nhl.
