Gauthier Fired

As predicted. No surprise here, other than maybe the timing. They could have waited till the end of the season. That would of still given them plenty of time to find a replacement while the NHL playoffs were going on and up until the draft.

I hope Gainey follows him to the ranks of the unemployed in the next few days; time to flush out all the crap and start fresh.

Gauthier is no longer GM he will still be in the orginaziation

i'm SOOOO concerned about the way Molson is handling this stuff. i worry that all the terrible timing of moves may be coming from him - which means --- this isn't the end of our troubles, but perhaps only the beginning! sure hope i'm wrong. i like the talent direction the team was headed towards under Gauthier (not the direction in the standings, obviously). i am less optimistic today than i was yesterday --- hopefully a new GM is announced very soon and can restore my confidence in ownership

They still need someone to sign prospects like Kristo and Quailer before the next GM is hired.

I think Savard as an Advisor to Patrick Roy would be a great set up.... with a cap specialist as Assistant GM.

Molson clearly said that the list of potential GMs will remain confidential throughout the hiring process.

Serge Savard will be his main advisor for this task.

Savard as the GM or even temp GM would scare me, having him advise on choosing a GM may be a good idea. It might be nothing more then a credibility move for Molson as he can say he has brought in someone with more experience to help.

I am glad Gainey was also moved. I was convinced that Gainey had a far bigger hand in decisions that most people thought. I fully believe him and Gauthier were a team even when Gainey was the GM, and all they were doing was switching the public face.

So we can expect a new GM and a new coach, with no residual hangover from Gainey. This is the first step, but now we must wait to see if it is the start of improving, or getting worse. Time will tell.
